I just bought the Seltos IVT on May 12, 2026. It's an amazing machine. I've driven it in heavy rains, through valleys, and on highways. Even with 4 passengers and luggage, the car didn't disappoint. On the highway, with cruise control, its mileage crosses 20. I took it for a test drive 5 times before deciding. This car won't disappoint.
Read moreAfter driving the Seltos, I felt it is not a great choice for city driving. The mileage is around 10-11 kmpl. However, it offers a smooth highway driving experience.
Consider the turbo petrol variant of the Seltos. It's significantly more powerful, but the DCT can get warm and stutter in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Keeping it in sports mode helps. The NA petrol is less powerful and struggles in overtaking scenarios. On highways, there's virtually no mileage difference between the two, but mileage can drop significantly for the T-GDi in traffic.

Mileage so far around 6000 kilometers is decent, showing around 14.6 overall. On the highway, I got 16+ and in the city around 13+. Very reliable and solid build makes it a perfect choice.

I am planning to buy a new car under 20 lakh. My daily drive is 50 kms on highways and a 700 km highway monthly trip to my hometown but city usage would be negligible. I have finalized the Kia Seltos HTX varient. I am confused between buying a petrol or diesel varient. While petrol version has low initial and maintenance cost, daily fuel cost is more. On the other hand, diesel would give me better mileage with less fuel cost but it will have expensive maintenance and initial cost. Or should I consider some other car. I am not interested to buy an EV. Please suggest.

We'd recommend the Kia Seltos Diesel Automatic. Your usage is almost ideal for a diesel. A 50km daily highway commute combined with a 700km highway trip every month means the engine will spend most of its time at operating temperature, making it well suited to a modern diesel. You also shouldn't have to worry about DPF-related issues, as regular long-distance driving allows the system to regenerate properly.While the diesel does have a higher purchase price and slightly higher maintenance costs, you'll benefit from significantly better fuel efficiency, and with your usage, the savings at the fuel pump should more than offset the initial premium over time. The Seltos' 1.5-litre diesel paired with the torque-converter automatic is also one of the smoothest and most refined diesel-automatic combinations in this segment, making it an excellent highway cruiser.

We'd recommend the Kia Seltos HTX Petrol IVT. With 80 percent city driving in Pune, low annual running and only a handful of highway trips each year, the naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with the IVT automatic is the best fit. It is smooth in stop-start traffic, refined on the highway and there's little financial benefit in opting for the diesel at your usage. We'd also avoid the turbo-petrol DCT unless performance is a priority, as the IVT is the more relaxed transmission for everyday city driving.The HTX is the sweet spot in the range and offers the best value for money. It gets the features most buyers want without stretching into the considerably more expensive top variants. If ADAS is a priority, however, we'd recommend stretching to the HTX+, as it brings the full suite of active safety features including adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. The GTX+ adds more luxury features but doesn't significantly improve the ownership experience for your usage.In real-world conditions, expect around 10-12kpl in the city and 15-17kpl on the highway, depending on traffic and driving style. Kia's maintenance costs are competitive for the segment, and we'd recommend opting for the extended warranty if you plan to keep the car beyond the standard warranty period for added peace of mind.We wouldn't worry too much about future-proofing. It also has excellent high-speed stability and feels more involving than both the Seltos and the Sierra.One SUV that isn't on your shortlist but is well worth considering is the Mahindra XUV 7XO. I am confused between the Kia Seltos and the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. I am also unsure whether I should buy the base variant and customise it or choose a mid variant with the necessary features. I live in Chennai and drive around 1,000 km a month, with a 50:50 split between highway and city use. With half your running on highways, the Seltos feels calmer at speed, gives you more confidence, packs in more performance, and, as you mentioned, the cabin is more premium. At 1,000 km a month, the Victoris' better mileage likely saves only around Rs. 1,000-2,000 monthly, so the nicer drive and cabin may be worth more.Go mid variant rather than base-plus-accessories. Safety and basic features like a proper touchscreen with Android Auto, rear camera, cruise control and more come integrated, work reliably, and stay within the standard warranty. Aftermarket bits rarely work as well, and you cannot add some safety features later.If your main priority is fuel efficiency, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris will help keep costs low. Just know it is not as quick for highway overtakes and does not feel as rich inside. For your city-highway split, the Seltos mid variant is the sweeter long-term pick.

I am looking to buy a car in the Rs 20-30 lakh budget. My driving is mostly in the city, and I cover around 50km every weekday, with occasional driving on Saturdays. I want a car with good after-sales service and decent fuel efficiency for city use. Most of my commute is along the Coastal Road from Bandra East to Fort in Mumbai. Instead, you should prioritise comfort, reliability, ease of ownership and how well the car will age over the next 10 years. That's why we wouldn't prioritise the Victoris Hybrid. While it is an excellent strong hybrid, the price premium will be difficult to justify with such low annual running.Between the remaining options, the Seltos strikes the best balance. It offers a refined and proven naturally aspirated petrol engine, a smooth IVT automatic, a spacious and premium cabin, excellent comfort and a strong ownership experience. It also feels newer and more upmarket than the Elevate and 3XO, while the current Creta is due for a generational update sooner.The Honda Elevate deserves a mention for its simplicity and reliability. If absolute mechanical simplicity is your priority, it is arguably the safest long-term bet. However, it doesn't feel as premium as the Seltos, and the engine and CVT combination isn't quite as refined.As for ethanol blending, we wouldn't let it influence your purchase decision. While there is plenty of discussion around E25, E27 and E30 fuels, there is currently no confirmed roadmap for such a transition. More importantly, all of these cars are E20 compliant, and manufacturers have engineered a degree of tolerance beyond that. The most likely effect of higher ethanol blends would be a small reduction in fuel efficiency and slightly accelerated wear of certain fuel-system components over a very long period, not a major reliability issue.

Go for the Kia Seltos IVT. With 90% city use, its smooth, automatic and light controls make it easy to drive, and the NA 1.5 petrol delivers better city mileage than the Kushaq turbo and the Elevate. It also rides well over bad patches, and the high seating gives great visibility for traffic and speed breakers. It also has a 5-star safety rating and a lot of standard safety features.The Skoda Kushaq automatic is the fun one, and crash safety is top tier, but its turbo automatic tends to drink more in stop-and-go, and the cabin is a bit tighter.One thing to watch: these automatics can creep over Rs. 15 lakh on-road, depending on your city, so check local pricing.
