This will be my first car purchase in Hyderabad, and I’m new to driving. I’m planning to buy an AMT car with a budget of around Rs 10 lakh. About 75 percent of my usage will be within the city, with occasional trips to the outskirts within a 100- 150 km range. Please suggest the best cars I should consider. Also, if I buy a petrol car now, will I face any issues with E20 fuel and rising petrol prices?

For a first-time buyer in Hyderabad with a Rs 10 lakh budget, predominantly city driving and short outstation trips, the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT is the most sensible recommendation. It is compact, easy to drive in traffic, has light steering, and a smooth AMT calibration, making this Maruti Suzuki car ideal for new drivers. Maruti's service network is also a big advantage for hassle-free ownership. If you want a higher seating position and a more rugged feel, the Tata Punch AMT is a strong alternative. It offers better ground clearance for bad roads and a more commanding driving position, though the AMT is not as smooth as the Swift's.On E20, there is no need to worry. Modern petrol cars are engineered to run on E20 fuel, and the impact is limited to a slight drop in fuel efficiency. There is no evidence to suggest major long-term reliability issues. Petrol prices will fluctuate, but for your usage pattern, petrol remains the most practical and hassle-free choice.

Please suggest a car. My car running is only 3500 km annually. I drive on Saturday and Sunday (for only 10-15 km) with occasional highway trip of 100km. I'm looking for a low maintenance, good safety and reliable car. My budget is 10 lakh.

With just 3,500km a year, mostly short weekend drives and the occasional 100km highway trip, you need a simple, reliable and low-maintenance car rather than something feature-packed or performance-oriented. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is the best fit here. It is easy to drive, comfortable for city use, and Maruti’s service network and low maintenance costs make it a hassle-free long-term ownership proposition. The Mid variants are well within your Rs. 10 lakh budget, leaving room for a higher variant with better safety features. If you prefer a slightly higher driving position, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a good alternative. It offers the same reliability and low running costs in a compact SUV form factor. Both cars are petrol, which is the right choice for your low annual running, and both are known for their reliability and ease of ownership.

Hi Team, I am planning an upgrade from my Honda Amaze 2016 model to a compact SUV or a spacious hatchback with a budget not exceeding 11 lakhs. My daily usage is 55-60 kms, so monthly a 1.1k kms. Plus, I drive daily on the highway, with bumper-to-bumper traffic half the time.

With a daily 55-60 km commute that is split between highway and bumper-to-bumper traffic, your priority should be a car that is comfortable, easy to drive and fuel-efficient. At around 1,100 km a month, you are right on the threshold where fuel efficiency starts to matter, but not enough to justify the higher cost and complexity of a diesel or hybrid. A petrol engine with a smooth automatic gearbox is the sweet spot here.Given your budget of Rs 11 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the most sensible upgrade from your Honda Amaze. It is a spacious hatchback with a comfortable ride, a refined petrol engine and a smooth automatic gearbox that makes daily traffic far less tiring. The Baleno also offers excellent fuel efficiency, low maintenance costs and Maruti's unmatched service network, which is important for long-term ownership. The AMT gearbox works well in the city and takes the sting off your left foot in traffic. If you are set on a compact SUV, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is the best fit within your budget. It gets a four-cylinder petrol engine that is refined and punchy and offers a higher seating position and better ground clearance, which can be useful on rough patches and speed breakers. However, you will have to settle for a lower variant compared to the Baleno.Between the two, the Baleno is the better choice for your usage. It is more spacious, more comfortable and better value for money. The Fronx only makes sense if you specifically want the SUV stance.

I want to upgrade from my Hyundai i10 to some other smaller car with status. It should be suitable for approximately 3000km annual running under a budget of Rs. 10 to 11 lakh. Please suggest.

With a budget of Rs. 10-11 lakh and just 3,000 km a year, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza turbo manual is the best fit here. It is a well-rounded compact SUV with a spacious cabin, comfortable ride and a strong reputation for reliability and low running costs. It feels like a clear step up from the i10 without being unnecessarily complicated. The recent facelift has introduced the turbo petrol which improved highway performance. The drawback is that it isn't available with an automatic right now.If you want something with a bit more status and a more premium feel, the Skoda Kylaq is a good alternative. It has a more premium feel inside out, but the Brezza is the easier car to live with day to day. Overall, the Brezza hits the brief best: it is a no-nonsense, reliable upgrade with just enough status to feel special.

Hi, I am from Kolkata and am planning to buy a new car for the first time. My budget is between 11 and 12 lakh. Now, my driving will be more or less within 600-700 km/month which will involve 60% city and 40% highway driving. I want a compact SUV and my choices are Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 ZXi, Brezza ZXi 1.0L Turbo, Skoda Kylaq Classic+/Signature and Tata Nexon Pure Plus PS. You can suggest me other cars as well. I am confused between NA and Turbo. Mileage is also an important factor but not the first priority.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi 1.0L turbo petrol. While the Brezza NA will be more efficient, with your running of 600-700 km a month and a 60:40 city-highway split, you likely aren't going to feel the pinch. You will, however, appreciate the turbo's extra performance on the highway. Drivability in traffic is also good, with good low end performance and a light clutch. The reason to get the NA would be is you are opting for the automatic, which isn't available on the turbo. The Brezza also has Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs, which is important for a first-time buyer. The Kylaq is the better driver’s car, but the Brezza is the more sensible long-term ownership choice. The Nexon is a good option too, but the Brezza’s ownership experience is easier.
