Volkswagen Taigun Expert Review
The Volkswagen Taigun offers a variety of options, even though all are petrol-powered, with many automatic transmission options available as well. The Taigun is a good 4-seater sporty SUV as the rear seat space is tight; but it manages to compensate for its compact size with good driving manners and dynamics. The Taigun is not as well equipped as its Korean rivals but offers far greater driving pleasure with good build quality. Check out our in-depth Autocar expert review below.
Volkswagen Taigun pros and cons

Volkswagen Taigun expert review
The Taigun has a clean, contemporary look, although it’s among the smaller midsize SUVs. Its standout styling features include a wide chrome grille, LED headlamps, and a distinctive LED light bar at the rear. While it shares some body panels with the Kushaq, design elements like wheels and trims vary across variants. ‘Sport’ versions with blacked-out chrome cater to buyers wanting a subtler, more European appearance.
7.0
Inside, the Taigun feels solid and well built, with a high-set touchscreen, faux carbon inserts, and a colourful digital cluster. While hard plastics are evident, they feel durable. Front and rear seats are supportive, and rear space is decent for two adults. Practical touches include good storage and a usable 330L boot. However, signs of cost-cutting like exposed sunroof rails and dummy buttons are hard to ignore.
7.0
The 1.0L turbo (115hp) feels lively, while the 1.5L (150hp) in the GT variants offers stronger performance with cylinder deactivation for efficiency. The DSG auto is smooth and responsive, and the manual gearbox is engaging, though its clutch is a bit heavy. Engine refinement is good, though the 1.5 gets vocal at higher revs.
8.0
The 1.0L delivers 18.15–19.87kpl, while the 1.5L claims 18.61–19.01kpl. Real-world efficiency is aided by the 1.5’s active cylinder tech.
7.0
The Taigun rides firmly at low speeds but excels at highway stability and handling. It feels agile and composed in corners with light yet confidence-inspiring steering. The overall feel is distinctly European and fun to drive.
7.0
Safety is a strong point with a 5-star Global NCAP rating, ESC, ABS, and dual airbags as standard. Top variants get a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless phone integration, ventilated seats, sunroof, digital cluster, auto LED headlamps, cruise control, and wireless charging—matching segment expectations.
8.0
Priced from ₹10.99 lakh to ₹18.00 lakh (ex-showroom), the Taigun offers strong value at the lower end and driving thrills at the higher end with the 1.5 GTs. It may not match rivals in outright size or plushness but scores with solid build, safety, and a fun-to-drive nature. Ideal for urban users and enthusiasts who don’t need a full five-seater.
