Since you already own a Honda Elevate and are looking for a foreign-made SUV, the decision really comes down to what you want from your second car. The Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are essentially the same car underneath, so the choice between them is more about brand preference and dealership experience. Both are excellent to drive, with strong turbo petrol engines and a more engaging driving experience than the Creta. The Kushaq tends to offer slightly better value for money, while the Taigun has a marginally more premium interior feel.The Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, is the safer, more rounded choice. It is more comfortable, has a wider service network and is generally easier to live with over the long term. It may not be as engaging to drive as the Skoda or Volkswagen, but it is the more sensible ownership proposition.If you are looking for a car that feels different from your Elevate and enjoy driving, go for the Skoda Kushaq. If you want a hassle-free ownership experience, the Hyundai Creta is the better choice.

None of these five is likely before 2027, and Mahindra and Volkswagen are the only ones with even a rough timeline so far.Kia New Sonet: Kia is expected to bring the second-generation Sonet to India in 2027. Like the new Sonet, it will move to the K1 platform, with bigger screens, Level 2 ADAS and more rear-seat room, but there’s no confirmed date yet.Volkswagen Tera is expected around mid-2027, at an estimated Rs 8-13.5 lakh. As a Virtus owner, you’ll find it familiar territory.Mahindra Vision S production version is expected in 2027, and according to our estimates, it will be priced between Rs 10.5-15 lakh.In the case of the Mahindra Vision X, this sporty, crossover-styled SUV was shown as a concept in August 2025 and is expected to go on sale in 2027 and is expected to be under 4m. It will use the new NU_IQ platform, which can take petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains, but the production engines haven’t been confirmed.In the case of the Hyundai New i20, it made its global debut in Brazil in June, with a more crossover-like look and twin screens. Hyundai hasn’t confirmed an India launch date yet.All of these are estimates, and timelines tend to slip. If you need a car in the next few months, buy from what’s on sale now rather than holding out for any of these.

With just 500km a month, petrol is the clear choice, and reliability and ease of ownership become the most important factors. The Honda City is the safest recommendation here. It is a proven product with a strong reliability record, a comfortable ride and a familiar ownership experience that your father will appreciate, especially coming from a 2008 City. The Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus are both excellent to drive, but the 1.0 TSI engine can feel a bit laggy at low speeds, and the 1.5 TSI is overkill for this kind of usage. The Nissan Tekton is a good value proposition, but engines are not responsive at low speeds and Nissan's service network is not as strong as Honda's, which matters more for a low-running, long-term ownership scenario. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is a solid option if you specifically want an SUV, but the hybrid premium does not make financial sense at this running, and the naturally aspirated petrol is not as refined as the City's engine. The new-generation Hyundai Creta is worth waiting for only if your father specifically wants an SUV; otherwise, the City remains the more sensible choice. Overall, the Honda City is the most reliable, comfortable and hassle-free option for your father's usage.

If the pre-facelift Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 DSG falls within your budget, this is certainly the one to go for. The 1.5 TSI and DSG combination works brilliantly, feels best on the open road, and will feel effortless during your drives to the mountains. Given that you're upgrading from a Polo, this Volkswagen car feels like the most natural option for you. Do keep in mind that with the pre-facelift, you miss the upgraded aircon, which is available on the facelift as well as the updated Kushaq. The Citroen Aircross X AT is an excellent car with a strong AC, excellent 1.2 turbo AT combination, and fantastic driving dynamics. But given Citroen's limited service network, it isn't a car we can recommend easily.
