Volkswagen India has pulled the covers off the Taigun facelift, introducing a comprehensive mid-cycle update for this midsize SUV. The refresh brings revised exterior styling, additional features and a new automatic gearbox option for the 1.0-litre TSI engine.

The Taigun continues to rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq and Renault Duster, among others.

Up front, the Taigun facelift gets a revised fascia inspired by Volkswagen’s flagship Tayron R-Line SUV, featuring an illuminated VW badge and new LED headlamps connected by a light bar. The grille is slimmer than before, and the bumper has been redesigned with horizontal slats. GT variants feature blacked-out elements, including the grille accents, alloy wheels and exterior trims, along with GT badging.

In profile, the overall silhouette remains unchanged, with the only notable update being a new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the Taigun facelift gets an illuminated logo, updated LED tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators and a revised bumper, giving it a more modern look.

Inside, the Taigun facelift retains the same dashboard layout but gets updated trims and colours with a two-tone finish, offering six different upholstery options, depending on the variant. There’s a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and an updated 10.1-inch infotainment system running slicker software with updated graphics and AI-based integration, enabling access to real-time information, along with improved voice-based controls and hands-free operation of in-car functions.

Volkswagen has added a new panoramic sunroof with the Taigun facelift. The SUV also offers features such as powered and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting and wireless charging.

Safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, electronic differential lock, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts and an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM), among other features. The new Taigun also carries over its 5-star safety rating from the outgoing model.

The Taigun facelift continues with the same turbo-petrol engine options as before. These include a 1.0-litre TSI producing 115hp and 178Nm and a 1.5-litre TSI making 150hp and 250Nm.

The key update is the introduction of a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI engine, replacing the earlier 6-speed unit, while the 6-speed manual option has been carried forward. The 1.5 TSI engine continues to be offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic gearbox. 

With the Taigun facelift, Volkswagen has added rear disc brakes to the 1.5 TSI variants – a much-requested update. Volkswagen even claims to have improved fuel efficiency by 5.8 percent for the 1.0 TSI engine.

Taigun facelift buyers will get a standard 4-year/1,00,000km warranty, 4 years of roadside assistance and three free labour services.
