For 2026, Volkswagen has comprehensively updated the Taigun to bring it up to speed with the competition. On the other hand, the returning Duster helped Renault make a comeback to the very segment it created. In this article, we compare the top-spec Taigun GT Plus Sport to the Duster Iconic to determine which of the two offers better value.

The Taigun’s turbo-petrol is a 1.5-litre unit delivering 150hp and 250Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Duster’s smaller 1.3-litre unit outputs more power and torque figures of 160hp and 280Nm respectively. When it comes to gearbox options, the Duster also offers a 6-speed manual along with a 6-speed DCT transmission, while the Taigun gets a 7-speed DCT gearbox only. A manual transmission with the Taigun’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol was once offered on the pre-facelift version, but was discontinued.
Volkswagen Taigun vs Renault Duster: Exterior features
The Duster is the only one here with a powered tail-gate

However, the Duster pulls ahead with fog lamps at the front, puddle lamps, larger alloy wheels and most importantly, a powered tailgate. When it comes to colour options, the Taigun offers only monotone choices and a single matte finish paint, while the Duster offers monotone and dual-tone options.
Volkswagen Taigun vs Renault Duster: Interior features

The Taigun and Duster’s feature lists are closely matched, with identical sizes for their respective infotainment and digital driver’s displays, powered and ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, and 6-speaker audio systems. But it's the Duster with additional features like manual lumbar support for the front seats, an air purifier, dual-zone AC, rear sunshades, multiple colour options for ambient lighting, and leatherette inserts on the dashboard.
Volkswagen Taigun vs Renault Duster: Driving features
Only Duster gets options to adjust the driving experience
The Taigun skips drive modes and steering modes to fine-tune the driving experience, something which the Duster gets. Additionally, it's the Duster here with adaptive cruise control, while the Taigun only gets the regular cruise control.
Volkswagen Taigun vs Renault Duster: Safety Features
Both are covered well on basic safety tech, but only the Duster gets ADAS
Both the SUVs are well covered with safety features like airbags, parking sensors, TPMS, ESC, and all-wheel disc brakes. However, advanced safety features like level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, optional dashcam and an electronic parking brake with auto hold are only found on the Duster.
Volkswagen Taigun vs Renault Duster: Prices and verdict
Duster’s more affordable price makes it a better value proposition
When it comes to pricing, the Taigun is Rs 80,000 more expensive than the Duster in top trim automatic guise. In fact, in manual guise, the Duster is about Rs 2.3 lakh more affordable than the Taigun. But it's not just value where the Duster trumps the Taigun. The additional features, the larger dimensions, and a much more powerful turbo-petrol engine make the Duster a clear choice over the Taigun.
