I currently own a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso VXi. While I like its compact size and ground clearance, I now feel the need for a proper 5-seater car. My driving includes about 200 km per month within Bangalore city and around 4,000 km of long-distance travel annually. Could you suggest an automatic car with good ground clearance, a high seating position, and a comfortable rear seat for three passengers?

Check out the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. It has a relatively compact sub-four-metre footprint, but still manages to be spacious for five adults, thanks to its boxy and tall design. This design also affords it a tall seating position, and visibility is great all around. And since you're already in the Maruti Suzuki ecosystem, it will be an easy transition, and you could even ask them for a loyalty bonus.

The Brezza's 1.5-litre petrol is not exceptionally powerful, but it is sufficient, and its 6-speed automatic gearbox is smooth and seamless with its shifts. The best part, however, is that it's incredibly fuel-efficient, which should make your annual long drives a little easier on the pocket. Ground clearance is a substantial 198mm, and the suspension is well-tuned for comfort and stability.

Another alternative is the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which also has a wide second row bench and strong petrol and diesel engines as well. But its driving position isn't as tall, and it isn't particularly fuel efficient.

I am currently using a 2018 Skoda Rapid diesel automatic (top-end) with 1,75,000 km on the odometer. I drive both on highways and in the city and am now looking to upgrade to a diesel vehicle that offers good power, comfort, and safety. My budget is around โ‚น25 lakh, and I am open to both 5-seater and 7-seater SUVs. I have not driven a petrol vehicle so far. Which SUV would be a good choice for me?

Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel AT as it fits your criteria. Coming from a Rapid diesel AT, youโ€™ll appreciate the XUV 7XOโ€™s 2.2โ€‘litre diesel engine that's refined and punchy and paired with a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It makes for a seamless drive in the city and out on highways.

You also get the flexibility of a third row of seats, and the 7XO comes loaded with safety kit like 6 airbags, traction control and Level 2 ADAS tech. Although it hasn't been crash tested yet, the pre-facelift XUV 700 did receive a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP, which should bode well for the XUV 7XO as well. It also has a spacious and comfortable cabin that has features like a triple screen setup, panoramic sunroof and ventilated front and middle row seats.

I am looking for an automatic car for a daily 60 km office commute in peak Kolkata traffic. I need an effortless driving experience, with adequate power for quick overtakes, even when the car is fully loaded. The yearly maintenance cost should be around โ‚น15,000. My budget is within โ‚น10 lakh, which can be extended up to โ‚น12 lakh. Note: ChatGPT suggested the Mahindra XUV 3XO TC.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO in the MX2 Pro fits the brief very well. It gets a powerful 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, and the 6-speed automatic is smooth, which makes stop-go driving easy and stress-free. It is also one of the most spacious cars in the segment, and its wide cabin makes it a proper 5-seater, so even when fully loaded, it remains comfortable and does not feel strained.

Another good option, and a more affordable one, is the Skoda Kylaq automatic in the Classic+ variant. It comes with a strong 1.0 turbo petrol engine paired with a smooth-shifting 6-speed torque converter transmission. While it is not as spacious as the 3XO, it feels noticeably smaller to drive, which makes it easier to manage in tight traffic conditions. It also offers a comfortable ride and has a larger boot than the 3XO. Despite being more affordable, it also offers useful features like auto-dimming IRVM and cruise control.

Between the two, if your priority is effortless performance and space, the 3XO is the better fit. If you want something easier to drive in the city with better value and practicality, the Kylaq makes a strong case.

I am looking for an automatic car. It will be driven mostly in Trivandrum city and will do a monthly long drive of 500km. Please suggest a good option between 10-12 lakh, on-road in Trivandrum.

Since most of your driving is in the city, a torque-converter automatic would be a good choice. With that in mind, there are several options in your price range, but the Fronx and the XUV 3XO stand out.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx with the Boosterjet engine offers decent performance and is responsive at low speeds, thanks in part to the mild-hybrid systemโ€™s ISG motor, which also helps improve fuel efficiency. The 6-speed Aisin-sourced automatic is very smooth in operation and reliable. Cabin space and overall comfort are good, and highway stability will feel reassuring on your longer trips.
Similarly, the Mahindra XUV 3XO with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine offers good performance and a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic. It offers a spacious and plush cabin that can comfortably accommodate five passengers. The suspension is comfortable and has a robust feel. Before you decide, take a test drive of both cars.

One of my close friends wants to purchase a new vehicle with a budget of โ‚น40 lakh. He is looking at the SUV market. Can you recommend the best option?

Consider going for the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 L diesel-AT AWD. The SUV offers a great blend of space, strong performance, AWD capability, a comfy and feature-rich cabin and safety.
The 7XO's 2.2-litre diesel engine is refined and punchy, while the 6-speed torque converter automatic is smooth, making the SUV feel at home in the city and on the highway. This Mahindra car also comes with the flexibility of a third row of seats and is loaded with modern features.
As for safety, the Mahindra XUV 7XO comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS features, and although it hasn't been crash-tested yet, the pre-facelift XUV 700 received a full 5-star rating from Global NCAP. Furthermore, Mahindra's service network is also widespread across the nation, which should give you peace of mind.

Hi team, I owned a Harrier XT Plus six months ago and am now planning to buy a new car. My budget is โ‚น10 to โ‚น15 lakh. I have shortlisted the Mahindra XUV 7XO base variant and the Roxx base. My usage is 500 to 800 km per week. Please suggest if these are good options, considering the base models, and advise on any other suggestions.

Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO base variant. With your 500-800km/week usage, you will appreciate the better ride quality compared to the Thar Roxx.
Your usage works out to roughly 2,000-3,200km per month, so stability, ride quality and interior comfort matter more. Coming from a Tata Harrier, the XUV 7XO will feel like a step up, thanks to its improved Da Vinci suspension. The base AX trim is well-equipped with features like the HD triple-screen setup, a six-speaker audio system and cruise control, which is more than what you get on the base Thar Roxx. In terms of powertrains too, the XUV 7XOโ€™s petrol and diesel engines are more powerful than those in the Roxx.
The one thing you give up is the rugged appeal of the Thar Roxx, but in terms of comfort and features, the XUV 7XO has a clear edge. Test drive both SUVs on the highway to compare ride quality. Also, ask the dealer to show you the base variants, as they can look and feel quite different from the top models.

Got the creta turbo petrol 1yr back but want a bigger car, is it a good financial decision to sell the creta in 6 months and idk how much I will loose in Chennai but I heard it has good resale value, and planning to buy a bigger car like 7 seater just for driving experience, is this a good decision in overall and financial point of view and what cars can I look after selling? Got the creta for 25L on road.

Purely financially, it isnโ€™t optimal to sell your car so soon, as 12-18-month-old cars take the sharpest depreciation hit. Expect a resale value of approximately Rs 20 lakh for your outgoing car - a financial hit of around 20 percent.

If you still wish to satisfy your itch to upgrade to a larger car, consider the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It is thoroughly modern, and itโ€™s a genuine size upgrade over your Hyundai Creta with a punchier engine, and the nicest drive in this class. Of course, it isn't the most spacious 7-seater out there; space in the third row is tight, but for occasional use it does the job.

If you plan to use all three rows regularly, you could even opt for the Tata Safari. It is more spacious than the Mahindra, and its road presence is great too.

Hi, I am buying a new car, but Iโ€™m confused between the Tata Safari Adventure X Plus petrol automatic, Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 petrol automatic, and Tata Safari Accomplished petrol automatic.

Between your choices, the Mahindra XUV 7XO offers better value for your money. In terms of performance, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the XUV 7XO has a definite edge over the Safariโ€™s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. In AX7 trim, it is also better equipped than the Adventure X trim of the Safari and is almost on par with the Accomplished trim at a significantly lower price.
It also offers superior ride quality. The Safari does have a slightly more comfortable third row, but if this is not a priority for you, then the XUV 7XO is the better choice.

Hi, I am planning to buy a compact SUV within a strict budget of โ‚น20 lakh. I have shortlisted the petrol automatic variants of the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7L and the Hyundai Venue N Line, as both offer Level 2 camera and radar-based ADAS systems. Although I prefer manual cars, I am choosing an automatic with ADAS to reduce driving fatigue. I will be undertaking a 300โ€“500 km round trip once every month and longer trips every 3 months. I am quite confused between the two options. Which one is better among them, and why?

With both cars now offering Level 2 ADAS, the decision is no longer about features alone, but how they suit your usage.

For your requirement of regular 300-500km highway drives, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7L petrol automatic still comes across as the better overall choice. It has a more powerful turbo petrol engine, which makes highway overtakes easier and less stressful, and the overall package feels more stable at cruising speeds. It is also a wider car, and despite the new Hyundai Venue improving in terms of space, the 3XO still offers a more spacious cabin, which adds to comfort on longer drives.

Another important difference is the gearbox. The 3XO uses a torque converter automatic, which is smoother and more predictable in everyday driving, especially in mixed conditions. The Venue uses a dual-clutch transmission, which feels quicker but is not as smooth at low speeds and in stop-go conditions, something you will notice in real-world use.

Where the Venue does well is ease of use and practicality. It feels more compact and easier to drive in the city, and it also offers a slightly more usable boot. If you are considering the N Line specifically, do note that its suspension is tuned to be stiffer, which affects ride comfort. If comfort is a priority, the standard Venue is the better choice.

I was driving a Nexon MT and now want to upgrade to an automatic. I am getting confused between Creta, 3XO, etc. I am suffering from lower back pain, so my main focus is on safety and suspension. Kindly suggest a better fit for my requirement.

In your case, we would suggest going for the Hyundai Creta IVT automatic. The Creta stands out because it offers a very comfortable and well-cushioned ride, which is important for reducing strain on your back. The suspension is tuned to absorb bumps well, especially at city speeds, making it one of the more comfortable options in this segment. The seats are also supportive and easy to get in and out of, which helps in daily usage.
The IVT automatic is another big advantage. It is extremely smooth in traffic, with no jerks at low speeds, which makes driving stress-free and easier on your back, especially in stop-and-go conditions.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO, while a good car, has a slightly firmer ride, so it may not feel as comfortable over longer drives or bad roads. It is good to drive, but not the best fit for your specific requirement of comfort.
