Hi Autocar. I am looking for a comfortable car with good driving dynamics. I am deciding between the Toyota Innova Hycross VX (Optional) and the Tata Harrier EV. I like the Harrierโ€™s driving feel, whereas the Hycross excels in rear-seat comfort. Whatโ€™s your take on this? My budget is under โ‚น35 lakh.

As you rightly said, the Toyota Innova HyCross is better from the rear seat, while the Tata Harrier EV is more enjoyable from the front. It's up to you to decide where your priority lies.

When it comes to performance and dynamics, the Harrier EV ticks more boxes, as it has a much stronger and more responsive powertrain, sharper steering, tighter dynamics and a pretty comfortable ride in isolation too.

However, its shortcoming is that of all EVs - the limitation of range and dependency on charging. Plus, the Harrier EV has shown signs of electronic glitches, at least on early cars.

If these are things you can work with, the Harrier EV seems like the better choice for you. The Innova, meanwhile, is the better all-rounder. It's more spacious and comfortable, with rock-solid reliability and a seamless service experience.

Iโ€™m looking to buy a new or used car with a monthly running of about 2,000 km (mostly city with a few Mumbai-Pune trips). The car will be mostly chauffeur-driven, so rear-seat comfort and smooth low-speed performance are important. Daily use will be for 2-3 passengers, but I need occasional seating for six. I prefer Hybrid, Diesel, or Electric. My priorities are comfort, reliability, low running costs, and strong service support. My budget is around 25 lakh. Please suggest 3-5 options and include used choices if suitable.

With your extensive usage, we cannot recommend an EV, as you would have to charge it frequently, and that is not good for battery health. In your budget of Rs 25 lakh, there aren't any 6-seater hybrids, either; your only option there is to move up to the Rs 30-lakh-plus Toyota Innova Hycross or Maruti Suzuki Invicto - both of which are excellent choices.

In your budget, the best option is the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. It's well equipped, comfortable and surprisingly spacious for its size. Plus, there are both six and seven-seat versions, so you can choose which configuration suits you best.

I want to buy a 7-seater for my family with a 70:30 highway-to-city usage pattern and an annual running of around 10,000 to 12,000km. I am considering the Invicto Zeta Plus with year-end discounts, the HyCross GX, and the XEV 9S. My buying motivators are Comfort, build-to-last quality and low maintenance, as I will be keeping it for a long time. Which one should I choose?

Since the majority of your driving is on the highway, we would rule out the Mahindra XEV 9S, as public charging infrastructure is not yet fully developed on the highway. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto and Toyota Innova HyCross are fundamentally the same cars, which are both very spacious and comfortable.
Besides, they are very reliable too and promise to give you a hassle-free ownership experience throughout their lifecycle with you. The non-hybrid 1.5 petrol variants arenโ€™t very powerful for highway use, but they do the job as a relaxed commuter. Between the Invicto and the HyCross, we would choose the HyCross as it has better resale value, thanks to the lure of the Toyota badge.

I want to buy a car for my father and am confused between the Toyota Innova Hycross GX(O) and the Mahindra XUV700. Mahindra may launch the facelift in January 2026, while there is no update on a Hycross facelift. Iโ€™m unsure whether to wait until January or go ahead with the current Hycross.

The Mahindra XUV700, now to be called the Mahindra XUV 7XO, is launching on 5th January. So if youโ€™re not in a hurry, itโ€™s better to wait and check it out before deciding.
It is expected to get new features and an exterior look. The Toyota Innova Hycross update is still some time away, so if you are not in a hurry, in our opinion, you should wait for XUV 7XO.

Iโ€™m looking for a spacious, feature-loaded 7-seater for a family of six adults. My annual usage is about 10,000 km with a 40:60 city - interstate split. Iโ€™m choosing between the Mahindra XUV700 AXL and the Toyota Innova HyCross GX(O). I prefer to keep my vehicles for many years. Which would you recommend?

Both the Mahindra XUV700 AX7L and the Toyota Innova Hycross GX(O) are good SUVs, but quite different in character.

The AXL variant of XUV700 is feature-rich and a performance-oriented SUV with strong petrol and diesel engines.
The Innova Hycross GX(O) is the top-of-the-line non-hybrid or petrol-only variant, which is a practical and reliable option but lacks the tech and the wow-factor of the XUV700.
Both SUVs are spacious, but the Hycross is also more comfortable than the XUV700 with a smoother ride and more room in all three rows.
However, we feel for your annual running of only 10k a year, which is mainly on the highway, the diesel XUV AXL will be the best option as it offers strong performance, effortless cruising and despite being a diesel is quite refined. Plus, the AXL comes with ADAS features, which can be a lifesaver in high-speed situations on the highway.
You should wait for the Mahindra XUV 7X0, which is the updated XUV700 with extra features like a third screen front passenger, to be launched in early January 2026, before making your decision.

I plan to upgrade my car. My monthly running is around 1,000โ€“1,500 km. Iโ€™ve shortlisted the Innova HyCross (petrol, non-hybrid) and the Mahindra XUV700 (petrol). Which one should I buy? My budget is up to โ‚น25 lakh.

The Mahindra XUV700 would be a better choice in this comparison. The Toyota car, while more spacious, is quite thirsty in its non-hybrid guise, with an efficiency of around 7kpl in the city and around 9kpl on the highway.

Considering your monthly running, a petrol SUV would be the right choice and here, the XUV700 is the better product. It has better features than the Toyota Innova HyCross. The ride and handling are nicer, and the engine performs a lot better, too. It is the better overall package and our recommendation.

I am confused between the Innova HyCross Hybrid and the Mahindra XUV700. Which is better? I want comfortable driving, good features, economical running, good mileage and ride quality. I also need third-row comfort and decent luggage space. Kindly assist.

The Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid is easily the better pick and meets all your requirements perfectly. Whether it is mileage or the third-row comfort, boot space (with all rows in place) or ride comfort, the HyCross does a far better job than the Mahindra XUV700.

Hi, I am a proud owner of a Tata Aria for the last 15 years, and now I am looking to give it a final rest. I am considering the Safari, HyCross, and XUV700. As per your suggestion, which one would suit me best? My budget is between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh.

The Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid is a no-nonsense MPV that delivers on all aspects - comfort, space, fuel efficiency, and with Toyota's backing, promises a trouble-free ownership experience. Since you like to keep your cars for a long time, the Innova Hycross hybrid is the safest bet.

The Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700 are tough SUVs, and while both are well-equipped, the Tata car is more comfortable than the Mahindra car for passengers seated in the third row. Meanwhile, the XUV700 is a lot smoother and more refined than the Tata Safari. If you are picking between these two, we'd suggest waiting for the heavily updated XUV700, expected in the first quarter of 2026.

I already own an 8-year-old Mercedes-Benz GLE diesel and an 11-year-old Alto as a beater car. I have a Rs 30 lakh budget for a new car. I am inclined towards an EV as well as the Innova HyCross. The Sierra was my childhood dream, but the EV variant may take time. My monthly travel is around 2,000 km, out of which 800 km is in the city. I want to retain the Benz for another three years. I may use this car primarily for city use as well as long-distance travel, which can be around a 1,200 km round trip once a month. Kindly suggest a suitable car.

The new Mahindra XEV 9S is a great option for you. Besides the fact that it is modern, feature-packed, and packs in three rows of seating (should you need it), you will enjoy driving it. The electric motor of this Mahindra car is peppy, smooth and very refined, and its ride comfort is excellent, for city and highway, both.

Alternatively, the Toyota Innova HyCross isn't as exciting as the new-age Mahindra EVs; however, it is a proven product known for its space, comfort and the hybrid's impressive fuel efficiency. It is one of those cars you just can't go wrong with.

I have gone through your review of the MG M9. Is there a petrol or hybrid option available in that price range for a seven-seater?

No, the only other option you have in the MG M9's price range is the Kia Carnival, which is available with a diesel engine. In case you're looking for a petrol-hybrid, you might want to consider a Toyota Innova HyCross/Maruti Suzuki Invicto, which are significantly cheaper than an MG M9 EV, or consider the Toyota Vellfire, at twice the price of the MG.
