โข2dPlanning to buy the Innova HyCross hybrid top model, but I just saw videos of the MG Gloster. Is the Gloster worth it if the budget increases, and how efficient is it in terms of mileage?

Autocar India
If your primary focus is efficiency, comfort and ease of ownership, the Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid top model remains the better choice. It delivers significantly better real-world mileage, especially in city conditions, and offers a smoother, more refined driving experience. It is also easier to drive and manage on a daily basis due to its size and more car-like nature. The MG Gloster (now transitioning towards the newer Majestor) is a very different proposition. It is a much larger, ladder-frame SUV with a strong diesel engine and proper 4x4 capability, which makes it better suited for rough terrain, long highway runs with a full load, or if you specifically want a more commanding road presence. However, this comes at the cost of efficiency, as it will return significantly lower mileage compared to the Hycross, especially in city driving. It is also a bigger vehicle to manage in everyday use.So the decision comes down to your priority. If mileage, comfort and hassle-free ownership matter most, the HyCross hybrid is the clear choice. But if you value size, road presence and off-road capability, and are okay with lower efficiency, then the Gloster or the upcoming Majestor can be worth considering.

โข5wI am looking to upgrade my current car, and my choices are the XUV 7XO and the MG Majestor, which Iโm guessing would be almost twice as expensive as the 7XO. I have always been a fan of the Endeavour, so I thought the Majestor would tick those boxes, but Iโm unsure if itโs worth the wait.

Autocar India
The MG Majestor will sit in a completely different league compared to the Mahindra XUV 7XO, and yes, it is expected to be almost twice as expensive. Early indications suggest an on-road price of around Rs 50 lakh, with a formal price announcement expected next month. It would make sense to wait for that, because pricing will ultimately determine how compelling it really is.From our brief drive, the MG Majestor feels like a significant step forward over the MG Gloster it effectively replaces. Itโs more polished, the cabin feels properly premium, and thereโs a real sense of space and road presence. In fact, the interior ambience and equipment levels feel a notch above both the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner. If what you loved about the Endeavour was that big, imposing, body-on-frame SUV feel with a commanding driving position, the Majestor should tick many of those boxes. The Mahindra XUV 7XO, on the other hand, plays in a very different space. Itโs not as large or as imposing, but in its segment, it is genuinely impressive. For its price, it offers strong performance, good driving dynamics, generous space for its footprint and a surprisingly plush, well-finished interior. It feels modern, easy to live with and far more manageable in everyday urban use.So the real question is what you want from your upgrade. If youโre chasing that full-size SUV presence and are willing to pay for it, the Majestor is worth waiting for, at least until the price is revealed. If the pricing stretches beyond what feels reasonable, the XUV 7XO remains a brilliant, well-rounded option that delivers a lot of car for the money, even if it doesnโt have the same size or road presence.

โข5wDear Autocar Team, I am planning to purchase a 7-seater SUV and would greatly appreciate your expert guidance in selecting the right vehicle. My daily running is approximately 40 km, and my key requirements are: Excellent overall comfort, especially for long drives A third row that is genuinely comfortable for adults Good road presence and premium looks that match societal standards Strong fuel efficiency and reasonable running costs Good value for money My budget is around โน35 lakh, but I can stretch it up to โน50 lakh if the vehicle justifies the price in terms of comfort, features, and overall experience. If most SUVs in this segment do not offer a truly comfortable third row for adults, I would appreciate your recommendation on which model provides the maximum usable third-row space. Looking forward to your expert advice.

Autocar India
Unfortunately, these days there is something of a void in the Rs 30-40 lakh price bracket, with all the models that existed here having either moved into a higher price range or been discontinued altogether. At the lower end of things, you could consider the Tata Safari, which is spacious, well-equipped, and crucially, very comfortable for all passengers. Its 2.0-litre diesel engine is a little noisy, but it is strong and efficient if driven carefully. At the other end of the spectrum, in the Rs 50 lakh range, is the MG Gloster. It is soon to be succeeded by the MG Majestor, but even the outgoing car is big on space, comfort and luxury, with a third row that's genuinely usable. It too has a strong 2.0-litre diesel engine that provides effortless torque to move this large vehicle.

โข13wI have been using my Jeep Compass Limited manual edition for the last 7 years. My daily usage is 50 km a day in the city and occasional highway journeys. I want a robust SUV with an automatic diesel engine and advanced safety features. My budget is between 25-45 lakhs. Please advise.

Autocar India
Check out the MG Gloster. The large 7-seater feels like a considerable step up from your Jeep Compass (or indeed its larger sibling, the Meridian) and comes with a smooth yet strong diesel engine and a smooth 8-speed automatic gearbox. And though it is large, its light controls make it manoeuvrable enough in the city. This MG car also comes with a long list of features, which includes safety features like an ADAS suite, but that's in the higher variants, so you might have to increase your budget slightly for that.

โข17wI currently drive a Tata Nexon and am planning to upgrade to a seven-seater. I have shortlisted the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline and Jeep Meridian Trail AT, but am confused about which one to finalise. I need expert advice on this. You may suggest any other seven-seater as well, except the Innova HyCross.

Autocar India
There's a dearth of seven-seater SUVs available in the Rs 35-50 lakh price bracket, with the only options being Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, and Toyota Fortuner. Out of these, the Kodiaq feels the most sophisticated and the most car-like; however, space for adults in the third row is tight, and is best used as a seven-seater for short distance, occasionally. The Jeep Meridian's third row space is no better, and overall, it doesn't feel as polished as the Kodiaq, hence the Skoda is the better bet.But if your objective is to travel with six or seven adults often, consider the MG Gloster and Toyota Fortuner, which are more spacious than the Skoda and Jeep. The Gloster has an edge over the Fortuner in terms of a more upmarket interior and better refinement.

โข17wI own a 2018 Ford Endeavour 3.2L 4x4 and absolutely love its ride quality and smoothness. I have driven it for 1.3 lakh km. Due to government regulations and some issues with the car, I now want to replace it. However, I am unable to decide on a new SUV with 4x4 and an automatic transmission that can offer the same road presence and ride quality, or at least come close. The Fortuner is a close contender for road presence, but it offers poor ride quality, low value for money and underwhelming interiors for its high price. Please suggest suitable options.

Autocar India
The Ford Endeavour 3.2L truly delivered a premium experience that remains unmatched, even today. As a replacement, the MG Gloster comes close in terms of its road presence, refinement, features, and ride and handling balance. If you're open to a 5-seater 4x4 petrol-AT SUV at a much higher price point, you could look at the tough-as-nails Jeep Grand Cherokee - it is a very competent car.
