•4dI am confused between the BMW X3 30 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. My driving is around 75-80% in the city, and I also enjoy driving. I want a car that is engaging to drive while still being comfortable on city roads. Rear seat comfort is important, as passengers should feel stable and not experience excessive movement. I am also open to waiting for about a year until 2027 to see if the GLC gets a facelift. The X3 has been recently launched, and I prefer buying the latest model available. Could you please help me decide which car would be the better choice?

Autocar India
With 75-80% city use, some fun drives on weekends, and a clear need to keep the back seat calm, the Mercedes GLC 300 4MATIC fits your brief better right now. In slow to medium city speeds, it rides softer, so speed breakers and broken patches are handled with less bounce, and people in the back do not get tossed around. The steering is light at low speeds, and the automatic gearbox, which changes gears on its own, is very smooth, so daily traffic is easy, yet the engine still feels strong when you want to make a quick overtake. It is also quieter inside, which makes city trips feel less tiring. The trade-off is that when you really push on a fast road, the GLC does not feel as eager or as tight as the BMW. Pick the BMW X3 xDrive30 if you drive yourself most of the time and want a car that feels sharper and more connected on an open road. The new X3 also gives you the freshest design and tech today, which matters to you. Just note that its ride is firmer in the city, so the back seat will feel a bit more movement on rough roads than in the GLC.On waiting: a GLC facelift by 2026-27 is possible, but India timing is uncertain, and updates may be small. If “latest” is your top goal, the new X3 gives you that today. If city comfort for family comes first, the GLC 300 is the safer bet.

•4dWhich car should I purchase with a budget of ₹1 crore? My usage is mostly city driving (around 30 km daily and approximately 10,000 km annually). Should I choose the Mercedes-Benz GLE or GLC, or wait for the BMW iX3? My priorities are a reliable engine and gearbox, good seat comfort (as I have a back problem), and reasonable mileage. Please suggest.

Autocar India
For your needs, we'd recommend the Mercedes-Benz GLC from your shortlist. The GLC’s front seats have good lumbar support and wide adjustment, so it is easy to set up a posture that is kind to a weak back, and the cabin is quiet which reduces fatigue on longer days. Between the petrol and diesel, it's a trade-off between mileage and maintenance - the diesel's fuel economy is no doubt better, but it also requires AdBlue topups and DPF regeneration every so often, so keep that in mind. You'll have to stretch well beyond ₹1 crore on-road for the GLE, but then it does ride and drive better, especially if you choose a six-cylinder model with air suspension. As for the BMW iX3, it is still a while away, with a launch not expected before 2027. If you can wait that long, however, it is coming here in long-wheelbase guise, so space and comfort should be plenty. Another offbeat alternative you should consider is the Lexus RX 350h. It fits in your budget, is spacious and comfortable, and offers a unique take on luxury with all the features you might want. Its biggest strength is its hybrid powertrain that is incredibly efficient and reliable too. Lexus' network in India, however, is smaller than Mercedes' or BMW's.

•2wHello, I am planning to buy a new car with a budget of around ₹80 lakh. My priorities are safety, comfort, and performance. My usage will be evenly split between city driving and highway (long-distance) trips. I am currently considering the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, and Land Rover Discovery Sport (despite higher maintenance, I understand it offers better performance). Could you please help me choose the right option?

Autocar India
For what you're after, the BMW X3 xDrive20d M Sport is the one that fits your brief best. It feels the most engaging to drive without giving up daily comfort, and it feels safe and steady at speed. The 2.0 diesel has strong pull for quick passes, the 8‑speed automatic shifts very smoothly, and the rear-biased xDrive AWD focuses on driving pleasure while still providing a safety net. In the city, it is easy to drive, the engine is quiet enough at low speeds, and visibility is good. You could also consider the new xDrive 30 petrol, which is even more exciting to drive, but we feel the trade-offs to mileage and ride comfort for your mixed usage mean the 20d still feels like the better bet.The Mercedes GLC has slightly softer suspension and a more luxurious interior, but is not quite as fun to drive. And the Land Rover Discovery Sport feels tougher and has the advantage of a small third row of seats, but it simply feels too dated and not as refined in this company. Overall, we would recommend the BMW X3 for you.

•3wI am planning to buy a new SUV. Should I choose the BMW X3, Audi Q5, or the Mercedes-Benz GLC? I am only considering petrol options.

Autocar India
You should opt for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. It is the most complete choice for everyday use and long trips among these three right now. The GLC rides very comfortably on bad roads, and the petrol engine is smooth and quiet. The steering is light in the city, the view out is clear, and the automatic gearbox shifts cleanly on its own, so it is easy to drive even in heavy traffic. Inside, it feels the newest and most upmarket, and Mercedes has a wide service network across big and small cities.Pick the BMW X3 petrol only if driving fun matters most to you and you often enjoy fast highway runs yourself. It feels keener to drive than the other two, especially in the recently introduced xDrive30 variant. Choose the Audi Q5 if you want a solid, comfortable SUV that's nice to drive and excellent value for money. Do bear in mind that it's quite old now and doesn't feel as modern as the other two.Overall, for a balanced, luxurious, and easy-to-own petrol SUV, the GLC 300 is the one to buy.

•3wHi Autocar Team, I am 60 years old and have been driving a Toyota Fortuner automatic for the past 14 years. I am now planning to upgrade to a more luxurious vehicle that offers superior comfort, especially for both city and highway use. My budget is up to ₹90 lakh.

Autocar India
After living with a Fortuner for so many years, you’re clearly used to a tough, dependable SUV and likely prefer diesel power. The best upgrade that fits your brief is the Mercedes-Benz GLE. It retains that solid SUV character you’re familiar with, offers generous space, and comes with a strong, refined diesel engine paired with a part-time all-wheel-drive system. While the GLE isn’t built to take quite the same rough-and-tumble punishment as the Fortuner, it delivers far higher levels of comfort, sophistication, and ease of driving, whether in city traffic or on long highway runs. The cabin feels genuinely premium, packed with features and excellent noise insulation, making every journey relaxing. In short, the GLE 300d combines the ruggedness you value with the luxury and refinement you now deserve. Compared to the Fortuner’s utilitarian nature, it feels like a quantum leap forward into the luxury SUV world.

•3wHello, I’m in the market for my first, and likely only, luxury car. I’m currently considering SUVs. I’ve test-driven the GLC, the new X3 30, Q5, and the XC60. At this point, I’m leaning strongly toward the X3, although I was quite impressed with the Volvo as well. For some context, I currently drive a 2016 Creta, which is now in its 11th year. My usage is primarily city commuting, averaging around 500 km per month. My main question is whether the X3 is a good daily driver, given its size. I’m planning to make the purchase later this year or early next year, ideally with minimal financing. From a timing perspective, what level of discounts could I expect if I target early next year?

Autocar India
Go for the BMW X3 30i. For your mostly city usage and as a one-time luxury buy, it fits best and will keep you happy. Coming from the Hyundai Creta, the X3 will not feel unwieldy in town. The steering is light at low speeds, the view out is clear, and the 360-degree cameras and parking sensors make navigating tight spots easy. The petrol engine and smooth automatic respond keenly in traffic, and the size feels manageable once you get used to it. Ride comfort is on the firmer side at low speeds, but it stays very steady at higher speeds. One thing to be aware of: the X3’s ride can feel a bit busy on broken city roads at crawl speeds, and the rear seat is not the widest in this class. If you want a calmer SUV, with great seats and more active safety features, the Volvo XC60 is a fine alternative, though Volvo’s dealer network is smaller. If rear-seat comfort matters most, the Mercedes GLC is the one to go for.On timing, the best deals typically come at calendar year-end and around March. A fresh, in-demand X3 usually gets small cash benefits or freebies, while the XC60 and Q5 see bigger cuts more often. Since you’ll use minimal finance, ask dealers to convert low-interest schemes into a straight cash discount or add a long service pack and extended warranty.

•4wPlanning to enter the luxury segment and comparing the c class and bmw 3 series petrol versions. My monthly usage is around 700 to 800kms. Which do u thing is a better car over all, Including usability features ground clearance resale value etc.

Autocar India
The BMW 3 Series is the better all-rounder as it delivers the best balance between driver engagement and everyday usability. The 330Li in particular offers a great mix of performance, comfort, and space — it’s genuinely enjoyable to drive, rides well, and has a far roomier and more comfortable rear seat than the Mercedes C-Class. In comparison, the C-Class’s back seat feels cramped with limited under-thigh support, which can be an issue on longer drives. The C200 petrol variant feels a bit underwhelming in performance next to the 330Li, though the newer C300 comes closer in pace and overall polish. That said, the BMW still feels more dynamic and planted, thanks to its excellent chassis and steering.Ground clearance on both is low by luxury sedan standards, so speed breakers need to be taken with care. In terms of resale, the 3-series generally holds it value well in this segment, and ownership costs are broadly comparable. Overall, the BMW 3 Series 330Li strikes a nicer balance of driving fun, comfort, and practicality, making it the more rounded choice for your usage.

•5wI am saving up for my first and maybe only luxury purchase in a couple of years. Confused between E220D, GLC300D, and 520D

Autocar India
Your shortlist today will almost certainly look different in a few years. By then, the current GLC 300d may well be gone, with an electrified or full‑EV GLC taking its place, so banking on that exact diesel variant being available is risky. BMW’s new‑gen 5 Series for India is now only offered as the long‑wheelbase 530Li petrol, so if you specifically want a diesel 520d, there isn’t oneThat’s why the Mercedes‑Benz E 220d remains your best bet for your first and maybe only luxury purchase. The long‑wheelbase E‑Class continues to be the benchmark luxury sedan, with lounge‑like rear space, a calm, almost cocooning ride and outstanding long‑distance ease. You do give up SUV‑style ground clearance and 4Matic traction, but the E-Class’s clearance is actually quite usable by Indian luxury‑sedan standards, and the way it rides and flows at a cruise is more relaxing than a taller SUV anyway. Also in 2027 or early 2028, a facelift of the E-class is expected, and hence, it would be the right time to buy one, and hopefully, you would have saved up enough by then.

•5wI want to buy a new SUV for daily driving under ₹1.5 crore. My driving is around 3,000 km per month, including both city and highway use. I own a GLS Maybach and a Volvo XC90.

Autocar India
While there are a few interesting options in this price range, we feel you should pick the BMW X5 xDrive30d M Sport. Apart from being excellent to drive and very luxurious, it will feel like a nice departure from your GLS and Volvo XC90. BMW's straight-six engines are superb when it comes to refinement, smoothness and performance, and given your intended heavy usage, some of which is on the highway, we'd recommend the diesel, which is strong and efficient. You can easily get more than 700km out of a tank of diesel in your mixed driving cycle. An alternative is the Mercedes-Benz GLE, which offers more rear-seat space and a slightly more comfortable ride, though we feel it will be too similar to your GLS, or the Lexus RX 500h, whose smooth and efficient hybrid powertrain is an excellent alternative to the established order.

•5wHi, I have to travel to my hometown, which is around 700 km away, 2-3 times a year with my family of three. Currently, I own a Toyota Innova Crysta 2.7V 2022 manual. I am planning to buy a luxury automatic car within a budget of ₹55 lakh. Could you please suggest some suitable options? Should I consider a demo or a new car?

Autocar India
In this price range, you always have to choose badge versus value, as there are some exceptional executive sedans and SUVs available for the same price as entry-level cars with luxury badges on them. If you're after a luxury badge specifically, we recommend the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, which is excellent value for money, or if you want an SUV, the Audi Q3, which is a little dated now. But offers the best overall package of performance, practicality and comfort. However, for the same money, the Toyota Camry offers far more space comfort and mileage thanks to its strong hybrid powertrain, for similar money. And similarly, the Skoda Kodiaq or Volkswagen Tayron offer far greater space, practicality and power than a similarly priced luxury-branded SUV. However, these big, seven-seat SUVs with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines are quite thirsty and could burn a hole in your pocket at the fuel pumps. However, if you're accustomed to the running costs of an Innova Crysta 2.7 petrol, then these won't be too far off. Of all these, we recommend the Toyota Camry hybrid for its all-encompassing offering of comfort, luxury, space and mileage at this price.
