New GST rates to slash Mahindra, Tata car prices by up to Rs 1.5 lakh

The recent new GST rates on cars will see prices drop after September 22, which is when GST 2.0 comes into effect. Since the announcement on September 3, many carmakers announced the passing on of GST benefits to buyers. So far, Tata, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Skoda, Mahindra, Nissan, Renault, Jeep, Citroen and MG Motors have announced price cuts across their line-ups. Here’s how much you could save on your new car after September 22.

New GST rates and Citroen price drop

Basalt starting price is unchanged but C3 prices now start at Rs 45,000 lower.

As the Citroen Basalt X coupe-SUV launched recently with GST 2.0 adjusted prices, its prices see no change. However, the C3 range, which recently received a price cut, will now be up to Rs 84,000 cheaper. Citroen has confirmed the entry-level C3 Live variant will cost just Rs 4.8 lakh, down from the current Rs 5.25 lakh. In addition, the Aircross SUV will see a reduction of up to Rs 50,000, depending on the variant. The C5 Aircross, which is Citroen India's flagship and is available in a single Shine variant, will see a price cut of nearly Rs 2.7 lakh, bringing its price down to Rs 37.32 lakh. 

New GST rates and Honda car price reduction

City and Elevate prices to decrease by over Rs 50,000.

Honda has announced that it will pass on GST benefits for its entire line-up, which includes the Elevate midsize SUV, the City midsize sedan and the second and third generation of the Amaze compact sedan. The current, third-gen Amaze will see the largest price reduction of up to Rs 95,500, while the City and Elevate's prices will drop by up to Rs 57,500 and Rs 58,400, respectively.

Creta price to come down by up to Rs 72,145.

Hyundai India has nine ICE models on sale. While all of them will see a price cut, the Venue sees a drop of over Rs 1 lakh. The popular Creta’s price will drop by up to Rs 72,145, while Hyundai’s flagship SUV, the Tucson, will cost up to Rs 2.4 lakh less. The Verna sees the lowest price reduction of up to Rs 60,640. Hyundai has also listed out price reductions for the i20 N Line (up to Rs 1.08 lakh), Venue N Line (Rs 1.19 lakh), and Creta N Line (Rs 71,762), separately.

New GST rates and Jeep SUV price decrease

Compass and Meridian prices to reduce by over Rs 2 lakh.

Jeep India has also announced GST benefits on its entire portfolio, which currently includes the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. While Meridian and Compass prices will reduce by up to Rs 2.47 lakh and Rs 2.16 lakh, respectively, the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler's cost will come down by up to Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 4.84 lakh each.

Sonet and Syros see price cut of over Rs 1.5 lakh.

Kia's entire portfolio of petrol and diesel-powered SUVs and MPVs sees a significant price reduction, with the Syros and Sonet seeing the maxmium drop of up to Rs 1.64 lakh and Rs 1.86 lakh respectively. The Seltos' Rs 75,372 price cut is marginally higher than the Creta's, while the Carens, Clavis and Carnival MPVs get up to Rs 48,513, Rs 78,674, and Rs 4.49 lakh off, respectively.

All Mahindra SUV prices to come down by over Rs 1 lakh.

While the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel will see the largest price reduction of up to Rs 1.56 lakh, the Thar diesel 4WD and the Scorpio Classic will have the lowest price drops, of up to Rs 1.01 lakh. Mahindra has also confirmed reduced prices of up to Rs 1.45 lakh, Rs 1.43 lakh and Rs 1.33 lakh on the Scorpio N, XUV700 and Thar Roxx, respectively.

New GST rates and MG Motor price drop

MG Hector prices to reduce by up to Rs 1.49 lakh.

MG Motor India’s ICE portfolio currently consists of the Astor, the Hector and Hector Plus, and the Gloster SUVs. Buyers of the MG Astor will receive GST benefits to the tune of 54,000, while the Hector range will be available at a reduced price of up to Rs 1.49 lakh. The large Gloster’s price will come down by up to Rs 3.04 lakh.

New GST rates and Nissan price reduction

Magnite prices to reduce by up to Rs 1 lakh.

Nissan is also passing on GST benefits to buyers to the tune of Rs 1 lakh on its compact SUV. The maximum price reduction is on the top-spec Tekna and Tekna+ variants as the range will now top out at Rs 10.76 lakh, and the entry-level Magnite Visia will cost just Rs 5.62 lakh from September 22 onwards. The Japanese brand has yet to reveal how much the X-Trail prices will come down by.

New GST rates and Renault price decrease

Kiger gets nearly Rs 1 lakh in GST benefits.

All three Renault cars on sale right now get GST benefits, with the Kiger compact SUV seeing the largest reduction of up to Rs 96,395. The Renault Kwid’s price will reduce by up to Rs 55,095, while the Triber MPV’s cost will come down by up to Rs 80,195. Renault's website confirms that Kiger prices will start at Rs 5.76 lakh, while the Kwid and Triber will be priced from Rs 4.30 lakh and Rs 5.76 lakh, respectively.

New GST rates and Skoda price drop

Kylaq prices to come down by up to Rs 1.19 lakh.

Skoda announced a limited price reduction and GST benefits worth up to Rs 63,207 on the Slavia sedan, up to Rs 65,828 on the Kushaq midsize SUV, and up to Rs 3.28 lakh on the full-size Kodiaq SUV. The Czech brand has also revealed a price cut of up to Rs 1.19 lakh for the Kylaq compact SUV.

New GST rates and Tata price reduction

Nexon to see up to Rs 1.55 lakh price reduction.

While prices for Tata’s smallest models – the Tiago hatchback, Tigor compact sedan and Punch SUV – will reduce by Rs 75,000-85,000, models like the Altroz, Nexon, Harrier and Safari will see price drops of well over Rs 1 lakh. Interestingly, the Tata Curvv will see the lowest price drop of just up to Rs 65,000.

Innova Hycross, Crysta, Taisor, Fortuner, Hilux, Camry and Vellfire prices to drop by over Rs 1 lakh.

Prices for rebadgedMarutimodels see the lowest price drop among Toyota’s portfolio, with theRumionandHyryderseeing reductions of Rs 48,700 and Rs 65,400, respectively. TheGlanza’s price will reduce by up to Rs 85,300, while the cost of theTaisor,Innova HycrossandCrystawill drop by up to Rs 1.11 lakh, Rs 1.16 lakh and Rs 1.81 lakh, respectively. More expensive Toyota models like theCamry,Fortuner(and the Legender variants),HiluxandVellfirewill massive price drops.

New GST rates and Volkswagen price reduction

Taigun and Virtus get GST benefits of over Rs 60,000.

Volkswagen has announced that its line-up – the Virtus midsize sedan, Taigun midsize SUV, and the Tiguan premium SUV – will recieve price cuts with the new GST rates for cars. The Virtus' price will come down by up to Rs 68,400, while the Taigun's cost will reduce by up to Rs 66,900. Interestingly, VW is offering larger GST benefits on its midsize sedan and SUV than Skoda. The German brand's current flagship in India, the Tiguan R Line, will see a price reduction of up to Rs 3.27 lakh.
