I am looking for a 7-seater with a budget of around โ‚น12+ lakhs. Occasional highway driving with limited city use. Not looking for the Maruti Ertiga.

Given your requirements, you should consider the Kia Carens. It is a practical, spacious and comfortable 7-seater MPV that comes reasonably equipped as well.
The Carens can be had with either a 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol or a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine. Since your usage isn't going to be high, go for the Kia Carens Premium (O) Petrol MT, which is priced at Rs 12.80 lakh (on-road, Delhi).

Please suggest a 7-seater car within a budget of โ‚น16 lakh for a monthly running of 1,000 to 1,500 km.

You should consider the Kia Carens diesel. Since your running will be high, it makes sense to opt for the 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Carens also has a spacious cabin for 7 people, and it comes with features such as an 8-inch touchscreen, a rear camera, TPMS, 6 airbags and more.

The Kia Carens diesel Premium (O) variant is available in a single variant priced at Rs 15.17 lakh (on-road, Delhi).

Iโ€™m looking to buy a new car within a budget of a maximum of โ‚น12-13 lakh. My daily commute to the office is approximately 20km, and sometimes I use my motorcycle as well. So, I usually commute by car about three days a week. Please suggest a car suitable for daily city use and occasional long drives of around 1,500km (to Goa), maybe 3-4 times a year. I need ample luggage space, good suspension, comfortable rear seats for elderly parents, and an efficient, reliable car with relaxed and worry-free ownership. I am considering the Kia Carens Clavis, Ertiga, or anything else that meets my needs. Please suggest an automatic, but not the AMT offered by Maruti.

Considering all your requirements, we would recommend the Maruti Suzuki XL6, which is essentially a more premium version of the Ertiga. The XL6 will offer captain seats at the rear, which your parents would find more comfortable than the bench setup in the Ertiga. It also has a more premium look and feel inside.
The ride is also comfortable, and the 1.5-litre petrol engine is efficient and paired to a torque converter gearbox which is far smoother than an AMT. The XL6 does not feel lively and peppy, and its setup is more for calm and relaxed driving, but it meets your requirements for good luggage space and worry-free ownership.
At you budget, you would get a mid-spec variant which would be equipped with all of the essentials like a touchscreen music system and automatic climate control. We would rule out the Kia Carens as it is only available with a manual option and in a lower trim. Its replacement, the Carnes Clavis, offers the automatic option; however, prices start at Rs 16 lakh.

Hi Team, I am planning to buy a 7-seater car with all the basic required features, great mileage, and easy maintenance. I am confused between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol Smart Hybrid Manual and the Kia Carens Premium Optional Diesel Manual. Please advise which one I should pick.

The Kia Carens is a better pick between the two options you are considering. The Carens is a more modern and more spacious MPV compared to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It also has a more powerful and efficient 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine option.

The Kia Carens Premium (O) diesel comes with all necessary features like 6 airbags, TPMS, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a height-adjustable driver's seat and more. The Kia Carens Premium (O) diesel manual is priced at Rs 12.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Hi, I am looking to buy a new car. I already own a Kia Carens Turbo petrol manual and have clocked 30,000 km in three years without any issues. I want to buy another new car, preferably a compact SUV, to drive in Bangalore. I really like the new Seltos, and Iโ€™m confused between the 1.5 NA iVT and the 1.5 Turbo IMT. Iโ€™m a bit sceptical about the IMT since it was discontinued by Hyundai. My purchase decision will be based on long-term ownership. Kindly provide your thoughts on the same.

Since you already own a turbo-petrol Kia Carens, chances are that you might find the 1.5 NA Petrol's performance a touch lacklustre in comparison. However, since you are looking for a city car, the Seltos Petrol IVT will do the job just fine. This combination is smooth and refined, and the automatic is seamless in its operation. It is an ideal combination for the city, and one we can easily recommend.

The iMT, on the other hand, is paired to the turbo-petrol, and even though there is no clutch pedal, you still have to row through the gears manually. And while the gearshift action is smooth and effort-free, you don't get the absolute convenience of full automatic. So for an effort-free drive, go for the 1.5 Petrol IVT version instead.

Hello, I am looking for 7 seater car for my family which is good on mileage and drive comfort. I am looking for new car for my senior citizen parents and children below 10 years. My budget is around 15 lakh. Pls suggest good option

Considering your requirements, you should take a closer look at the Kia Carens petrol manual. The Carens has a spacious cabin that can accommodate up to 7 people with ease, and it has a comfortable ride quality.

The Carens petrol is powered by a 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that's paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Kia Carens mileage for the petrol-manual variant is 15.70kpl (claimed).

In terms of features, it comes with an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a rear parking camera, 6 airbags and more. The Kia Carens Premium (O) petrol MT costs around Rs 13 lakh on-road.

Currently, I own a Celerio and am planning to buy an MPV. Iโ€™ve shortlisted the XL6, Kia Carens, and Hyundai Alcazar. Please suggest which one is best in terms of mileage and performance. Iโ€™ll mostly drive in the city, with 3-4 long rides per year of up to 1,200 km.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 would best suit your requirements of mileage and performance. Against the others in your shortlist, the 1.5 litre petrol engine in the XL6 offers decent performance and refinement, but a noticeably better fuel efficiency. The engine has a mild-hybrid setup and, in our standard test cycle, returned a figure of 9.2kpl in the city and 17.0kpl on the highway.

We assume, of course, you are comparing petrol versions across the three MPVs in your shortlist, given that the XL6 comes with only a petrol engine. If not, the Kia Carens and Hyundai Alcazar also have diesel engines, and these versions would be more fuel efficient than the petrol XL6.
