Questions you may find useful
I am looking for a comfortable family SUV but am confused between the Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos. I want a petrol automatic, and my budget is up to Rs 17 lakh on-road. Which one would you suggest?
Both the mentioned SUVs are available in their base variants within your budget. A good option to consider will be the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza that gets a comfy ride, smooth petrol engine and a reliable and hassle-free automatic gearbox. In your budget, the top-spec ZXI Plus trim would be a good choice as you get a good amount of creature comforts in comparison to the Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra. The Brezza has a spacious rear seat, soft suspension and light steering that makes it easy to drive and maintain. Fuel economy will also be better than your choices, and while it is a tad small in size, the space inside is not a deal-breaker.
I currently drive a 2022 Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo and am planning to upgrade to a new car sometime next year. I am particularly interested in hybrid vehicles, with the upcoming JSW Combat and the next-generation Kia Seltos Hybrid being the two options I am keeping an eye on. My primary requirements are excellent fuel efficiency, a spacious and comfortable cabin, and practicality. I need a car that can comfortably accommodate my family while also serving my work requirements, including carrying equipment and occasionally travelling to operational sites in hilly areas. Considering these requirements, which of these two vehicles would be the better upgrade from my current Kushaq? I would appreciate a comparison of their expected real-world mileage, cabin and boot space, comfort, performance on steep and hilly roads, reliability, maintenance and overall value for money. Since both options may not have confirmed specifications or launch details yet, I would also like to know what information is currently available and whether it would be worth waiting for these hybrids or considering other alternatives.
The JSW Combat (based on the Jetour T2) and the next-generation Kia Seltos Hybrid are unlikely to be direct competitors, with an expected price difference of around Rs 15 lakh. The Combat will be a much larger SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and considerably more performance, while the Seltos will be a conventional strong hybrid aimed at better fuel efficiency. As an upgrade from your Kushaq 1.5 TSI, the JSW Combat would be the more substantial step up, provided budget isn't a constraint. Its larger dimensions, more powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain and greater capability should make it better suited to carrying equipment and travelling to hilly operational sites. The Seltos, on the other hand, will be a more practical and affordable upgrade. It should offer a more premium and spacious cabin than your Kushaq, along with a significant improvement in fuel efficiency. However, in terms of outright performance and the sense of an upgrade, it may not feel like a major step up from your current 1.5 TSI.
Hi, I am planning to buy my first car and am looking for a sub-4m SUV. My planned budget is under Rs. 15 lakh. My options are the Skoda Kylaq Sportline, Kia Syros HTK Plus, and Hyundai Venue Turbo HX6. I will be using the car for a daily commute of 40 km and plan to keep it for 10 years. Since I am looking at long-term ownership, should I increase my budget to Rs. 20 lakh and look at a midsize SUV option like the Kia Seltos HTK? I am 6'2" tall, and we are a family of five. Please advise.
Given that you seem to be able to increase your budget, we would definitely recommend you do so as you are looking for a car for your family of 5 and you yourself are very tall. The compact SUV's would thus not be very comfy whereas the mid-size SUV's would be far better in this regard. Your choice of the Kia Seltos is a very good one, there's more space in the new Seltos and this Kia car is a very good all-rounder delivering a good ride, decent performance and enough space for you and your family. You would miss a few features compared to the top variants of the compact SUVs however the added space would go a longer way in keeping you all happy and comfortable.
We are looking for a car that offers utmost comfort, an automatic transmission, good fuel efficiency, strong safety, reliable after-sales service and a spacious interior that can accommodate a sleeping setup when required. We intend to keep the car for at least 15 years, so long-term reliability and ownership support are also important. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder meets our expectations in terms of comfort and fuel efficiency, while the Kia Seltos automatic appeals to us because of its spacious cabin. However, the Hyryder does not offer the same level of interior space as the Seltos, while the Seltos cannot match the Hyryder's fuel efficiency. Could you please suggest a car that strikes the right balance between these requirements? Our budget is Rs 15-20 lakh, and we are primarily considering Hyundai, Toyota and Kia because we trust these brands.
The Kia Seltos HTK Diesel AT is the one to go for. It is priced below Rs 20 lakh (on-road) and meets your requirements for space and comfort; its diesel engine is refined and efficient, and its automatic transmission is smooth. In states other than Delhi NCR, even diesel cars have a minimum life of 15 years, so unless there is any policy update or untoward incident with the vehicle during the course of your ownership, you should be able to drive it for 15 years without worrying much.
