I want to buy my second car, an SUV, within a 15 lakh to 17 lakh budget. I drive occasionally in hilly areas and on highways. Suggest a car in my budget?

Considering your budget and usage pattern, the Skoda Kushaq Signature 1.0 MT is the best fit. It is one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs in this price range, with a strong turbo petrol engine and a well-sorted chassis that gives you confidence on winding hill roads and highways. The Skoda Kushaq also offers good ride comfort, a solid build and a premium feel inside the cabin. You'll just have to be content with missing some features compared to the top-spec Kushaq Monte Carlo. If you want a more feature-rich and value-focused option, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 Luxury petrol is also worth considering. It offers a roomy cabin, more features than the Kushaq Signature and a strong 1.2 turbo petrol engine as well. However, the Kushaq is a larger car and feels more enjoyable to drive.

My budget is Rs 15-18 lakh, and I am currently considering three options: the Kia Seltos HTK(O) IVT, Hyundai Creta S(O) IVT and Tata Sierra Adventure DCT, mainly because it offers a 360-degree camera. I am a relatively new driver, so ease of driving, visibility, parking convenience and overall practicality are important to me. At the same time, I want good real-world mileage because most of my driving will be in the city. I have already test-driven the Creta S(O) IVT and really liked how it drove. However, I have heard that its real-world mileage may not be particularly impressive. Considering my requirements, which of these three would you recommend as the best overall choice? My priorities are: easy and confidence-inspiring for a new driver, good real-world mileage, reliable automatic transmission, 360-degree camera or good parking assistance, comfortable for city driving, and good long-term ownership experience. I am particularly confused between the Creta and Seltos IVT, while the Sierra DCT is tempting mainly because of the 360-degree camera. Which one would you choose in my situation, and why?

Go for the Hyundai Creta S (O) IVT. It is the best fit for your requirements as a new driver. The IVT automatic is smooth, reliable and easy to drive in the city, and the Hyundai Creta offers good visibility, a comfortable driving position and a well-balanced ownership experience. The Kia Seltos HTK (O) IVT is mechanically very similar, but the Creta is the better value package. Moreover, the Creta is slightly smaller and offers better visibility, making it easier to drive and manage for a relatively new driver. The Tata Sierra Adventure DCT is tempting with its 360° camera, but the DCT gearbox is not as well suited to city driving as the IVT, nor is it as efficient. Between the Creta and Seltos, it's quite close, but we'd recommend the Hyundai for its slight advantage in ease of driving.

I have been using a Grand i10 manual for the last eight years and am now planning to get a new vehicle for my wife, who will be a new driver. Her monthly commute will be around 700km, with 500km on the highway and the remaining distance in stop-and-go traffic. The vehicle will also be used for long trips, mostly on the plains. My priorities are comfort and space for a family of five, a peppy engine, reliability for 10-12 years, and pocket-friendly maintenance costs; last is mileage. I don't like Tata or Mahindra cars. My budget is Rs 15-17 lakh. I am considering the Honda Elevate and Sonet diesel. Please feel free to suggest any other cars.

Go for the Honda Elevate petrol CVT. It is the best fit for your requirements. The Elevate’s CVT automatic is smooth and convenient, making driving in city traffic far less stressful. It is also a reliable, fuss-free car that will comfortably last 10-12 years with Honda’s strong service network and low maintenance costs. The cabin is spacious enough for a family of five, and the ride is comfortable on long highway trips. The petrol engine is refined and peppy enough for your usage, and you avoid the long-term concerns around diesel ownership as emission norms tighten. The Kia Sonet diesel is a good car, but it is smaller than the Elevate, and the diesel automatic doesn't make sense given your usage. The Honda car mentioned above is the more sensible, long-term choice.

I currently own a 2015 Swift Dzire diesel and want to replace it with a car that is powerful, reliable, comfortable for long trips, fuel-efficient, easy on the pocket, safe, and practical for a family of two adults and two kids. My budget is Rs. 12-13 lakh. I am considering the Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Kushaq Classic variant. Please suggest which car and variant I should choose. My annual running is around 10,000-12,000 km.

Given your requirements, the Skoda Kushaq Classic 1.0 TSI is the best fit. This Skoda car offers a strong turbo petrol engine that feels genuinely powerful on highways, a comfortable ride and a well-built cabin. The 1.0 TSI is a proven engine, and your annual running of 10-12,000 km makes petrol the right choice. The Kushaq also gets an updated air-con, which is more suited to our climate conditions than the Kylaq's. We think it strikes the best balance between power, reliability, comfort and long-term ownership satisfaction.

Which car is the best for 80km daily commute under 15 lakhs that has good safety rating and fuel efficiency? Please suggest.

Verified
21h

For an 80km daily commute under Rs. 15 lakh, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is the best fit. At this running, diesel makes the most financial sense, and the 3XO is one of the few diesel options left in this price band. It is a safe car with a strong safety rating, and the diesel engine is efficient and well suited to long daily runs. You can even opt for the AMT automatic gearbox for greater convenience. The 3XO also offers a comfortable ride, good feature list and a wide cabin, making it a practical 5 seater. If you prefer a petrol, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the alternative. It is reliable, efficient and has a good safety rating, but at 80km a day the diesel 3XO will be significantly cheaper to run. The 3XO diesel is the more sensible choice for your usage.
