With a larger footprint, and more features and power, the Skoda Slavia is not just a replacement for the Skoda Rapid, but is positioned a rung higher on the mid-size sedan ladder. It shares a lot of its parts with the Kushaq SUV, including the pair of TSI turbo-petrol engines. Diesel, however, is not part of the offering. The Skoda Slavia rivals the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Virtus in India.

The Slavia is larger than most rivals and feels well-built, though some interior materials aren’t premium. It’s big on interior and boot space, and though well equipped, some features are missing. The 115hp, 1.0 TSI is smooth and powerful for its size. The 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI is the most powerful in its class, and offers a broad torque spread. Turbo-lag, however, plagues both engines. The standard manual gearbox options are enjoyable, though the automatics club performance and convenience. Ride quality is exceptional but handling could have been a bit sharper.
