Skoda and Volkswagen cars recalled in India

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Limited (SAVWIPL) has announced a second seat belt-related recall this year, affecting two sedans and three SUVs manufactured here. Combined, 1,821 units of the Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq and Slavia, along with the Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun produced between December 2021 and May 2025, are impacted, as per data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. SAVWIPL had previously recalled these same models in May 2025, affecting 47,235 units.

  1. Frame crack in the seat belt assembly's metal base is likely
  2. SIAM data also mentions the assembly of incorrect parts in affected vehicles

"This concern was identified during the ongoing quality inspection for Skoda Kushaq, Slavia and Kylaq manufactured during the aforesaid period," stated the SIAM document. It further added that the rear seat belt assembly (left and right sides) of 860 Skoda Slavia, Kushaq and Kylaq units could have a "frame crack in the metal base". Also, "incorrect part[s]" were installed for these seatbelts, which may need replacement.

The same issue affects 961 Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus units. Evidently, the imported Volkswagen Golf GTI and Tiguan R Line are unaffected. In international markets, Volkswagen recently recalled the Polo, Passat, Taigo, ID 7, ID 7 Tourer and the ID Buzz over another safety issue.

As is usually the case with these recalls, the company is expected to directly reach out to owners of the concerned vehicles to fix the problem. Owners could also log on to the Skoda India recall and Volkswagen India recall micro sites, and enter their Vehicle Identification Number or VIN to check if their cars have been affected.
