The Golf GTI will pack a 265hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, driving power to the front wheels. It will be available in four body colours: Moonstone Grey, Kings Red, Onyx White and Grenadilla Black. In India, Volkswagen will offer only the fully loaded version featuring IQ.Light LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, paddle shifters, launch control, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, sporty front seats and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The Golf GTI’s expected ex-showroom price is around Rs 53 lakh, with on-road costs potentially exceeding Rs 60 lakh in some states. In terms of market positioning, it will sit between the 2-door Mini Cooper S, which costs Rs 44.90 lakh to Rs 55.90 lakh, and the significantly more powerful Mercedes-AMG A 45 S, which sells for Rs 94.80 lakh.

Notably, the company spokesperson did not rule out the possibility of VW introducing the more powerful 328hp all-wheel-drive Golf R in the future or even the GTI with optional dynamic chassis control.
