We'd recommend waiting for the Renault Duster that will be launched on March 17. On paper, it could be the best suited to your requirements. The engine promises enough power for highway drives, and if the build is anything like the old Duster's, it will be ideal for your hill drives too, especially in testing environs like Ladakh. Of the other options on the list, the Skoda Kushaq/ Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 MT could fit the bill for you. They have a robust build, punchy engines and deliver good economy when driven in a relaxed manner.

Hi, I would like to replace my 2015 Ford Figo diesel with a new car. I quite like the new Škoda Kushaq and want to buy the 1.0-litre automatic. My primary usage will be around the city, with 3-4 highway runs in a month. Should I go for it or wait for the VW Taigun facelift? With these turbo engines, will the fuel efficiency take a hit? Please advise.

The Skoda Kushaq is a good choice for your requirements. The 115hp, 1.0-litre TSI engine is peppy, the cabin is comfortable, and the build quality is good too. Coming from your Ford Figo, you will also enjoy the driving experience. As for fuel efficiency, yes, the turbo-petrol engine will be less efficient than your current diesel. In our efficiency tests, the Kushaq 1.0 TSI with the 6-speed AT delivered just 8.5kpl in the city and 12.4kpl out on the highway. However, the updated Kushaq comes with an 8-speed gearbox, so expect slightly better efficiency.As for the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, it will essentially be the same car as the Kushaq. So there won't be much difference in terms of performance, efficiency or comfort. The notable differences will be in the exterior styling and certain features. So it only makes sense to wait for the facelift if you really like the look of the Taigun better than the Kushaq.

Hi everyone, I am planning to buy my first car for my family and am specifically looking for an automatic transmission. After visiting multiple showrooms, I have shortlisted the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5, Skoda Kylaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. My budget is ₹15 lakh, which can be extended up to ₹17 lakh. My daily usage will mainly be within the city, averaging around 30-40 km. I have also heard that the Volkswagen Tera is expected to launch in India this year. Should I wait for the Tera or go ahead with one of my shortlisted options? Please help me decide, as I am quite confused.

According to Autocar India's exclusive, Volkswagen's sub-4-meter SUV is expected only in 2027. This year, VW will launch the facelifted Taigun. Skoda has already unveiled the updated Kushaq, and VW will follow soon. And if you don't want to wait longer, you can consider the Skoda Kylaq. It comes with a fresh look, an updated cabin, improved AC performance and an 8-speed AT paired with the 1 litre Turbo, for a smoother drive and better efficiency.
