Fresh spy shots of the Volkswagen Taigun facelift have resurfaced online, about a month and a half after the midsize SUV was first spotted testing on our roads. The mid-cycle update is expected to introduce subtle cosmetic revisions, along with some feature additions. Volkswagen India is expected to launch the facelifted Taigun in 2026.
- Updates expected to soft plastic parts
- Sheet metal changes unlikely
- New Taigun may add a Level 2 ADAS suite

Headlights look inspired by VW ID EVs

Just the front and rear sections of the spied model were covered in camouflage, which may suggest where most of the changes will be concentrated. Even the headlights, which look inspired by the all-electric Volkswagen ID 4, had some camouflaging. For the front bumper, VW could go with a simpler, rectangular grille design instead of the current honeycomb pattern. Fog lamp housings were completely hidden.

In profile, the car looks unchanged. Redesigned alloy wheels and tail-lights are expected. Sheet metal changes, however, are unlikely. The latest photographs didn’t reveal the SUV’s interior.
Volkswagen Taigun facelift powertrain options
1-litre, 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine choices could be carried over
The new Taigun is expected to remain mechanically unchanged, at least at launch. The 2025 Taigun is sold with 115hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (1.0 TSI) and 150hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (1.5 TSI) engine options. A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered with both engines. There’s also the option of a 6-speed torque converter (TC) with the 1.0 TSI and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with the 1.5 TSI.

That said, the TC gearbox could be replaced with a new 8-speed unit (AQ300), which may reduce the load on the engine, improve overall fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. While the current 6-speed unit is imported, VW is reportedly looking at localising the AQ300 for economies of scale. The new gearbox could also be used in the upcoming Skoda Kushaq facelift.
