Trending Questions on Mahindra Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I booked a Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7T AWD Diesel AT on 25 May 2026 through Gargya Mahindra, Guwahati. At the time of booking, I was informed that the expected waiting period would be approximately 8 weeks. It has now been over two months since my booking, and I have not yet received any information regarding the vehicle allotment or the expected delivery date. This prolonged uncertainty is causing considerable inconvenience. I have tried everything, but no update yet. Can you hel me?
I currently drive a Suzuki Dzire diesel, and it gives good mileage. My daily driving is around 80-100 km, and my total monthly running is about 2,000-2,500 km. I am planning to buy the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel. Is this a good decision, and how much diesel will the 7XO consume?
With your current Dzire diesel returning good mileage and a monthly running of 2,000-2,500 km, a diesel SUV like the Mahindra XUV 7XO is a sensible upgrade. The 7XO diesel is a strong highway performer with a comfortable ride and a spacious cabin, making it well suited to your high-mileage usage. In terms of fuel efficiency, you can realistically expect around 14-15kpl on the highway and 10-11kpl in the city, depending on driving style and traffic conditions. This is a significant step up in fuel consumption compared to your Dzire, but it is offset by the added space, comfort and performance.Overall, the 7XO diesel is a good deal for your usage pattern, provided you are comfortable with the higher fuel costs that come with a larger, more powerful SUV.
I am interested in buying the 7XO, specifically the Petrol MT. But after seeing all kinds of reviews on the internet, I am really confused about which one to buy: petrol or diesel, AT or MT. My daily usage is mostly commuting to the office (20 km up and down). We will also be going on long trips (1,000-1,500+ km) twice or thrice a year. I also use the car for grocery shopping in the evening, so my monthly usage is around 300 km. The traffic here is full of bumper-to-bumper congestion. Please suggest which one I should buy: petrol or diesel, AT or MT, considering that I would like to keep this car for 8-10 years.
Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol automatic. Your usage is predominantly city commuting with heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic, and your monthly running is only around 300 km. In this scenario, a diesel simply does not make sense. Modern diesels make sense for long highway runs, and with your low running, the higher upfront cost and potential long-term maintenance costs aren't justified. The petrol engine is smooth, refined and well-suited to city driving, and the automatic gearbox will make your daily commute far less tiring. This Mahindra car is also a strong highway performer, so those occasional long trips will be handled with ease. The only downside is slightly higher fuel consumption compared to a diesel, but at your usage, that is not a major concern. The manual is worth considering only if you are very price-sensitive, but given your usage pattern, the automatic is the smarter choice for long-term comfort and convenience.
I am a bit confused between the Kia Seltos (Petrol) and Mahindra XUV 7XO (Diesel base model) for a family of five. My priorities are good boot space and fuel efficiency. Which one would be the better choice for my requirements?
In our real-world standard test cycles, we achieved an efficiency of 12.26 kpl for the 1.5 AT Kia Seltos and 13.10 kpl for the diesel AT Mahindra 7XO. So, going purely by numbers, the Mahindra would be better; it would also provide more boot space with the third row folded. However, an important point to note is to opt for the diesel Mahindra only if your driving includes a long drive at least once every 8 to 10 days, as this is important to prevent the diesel particulate filter from clogging up. A drive of about 20 minutes at speeds above 50 to 60kph is what is required to heat the filter enough to burn away soot. If, however, your driving is entirely within the city, you would be better off with the petrol Seltos.
Hi, my daily usage is 40 km within the city, and I drive around 1,000 km on the highway. I currently have a Dzire petrol. I want a fuel-efficient SUV with a budget of approximately Rs. 20-25 lakh. What would be a better option among an EV, hybrid, or diesel?
With a daily city run of 40km and an additional 1,000km of highway driving each month, your usage pattern is actually quite balanced between city and highway. In this scenario, a diesel SUV is the most sensible choice. A hybrid would make sense if your usage was predominantly city-based, as the fuel savings are most significant in stop-start traffic. An EV, on the other hand, would require a much higher daily running to justify the premium, and long highway trips would introduce range planning and charging considerations that you simply do not have with a diesel.Within your budget, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel is the most complete package. It offers a strong diesel engine, a comfortable ride, a spacious cabin and a good feature set. If you don't need three rows, then the Kia Seltos diesel is worth a look too, offering a more premium cabin and a very refined diesel engine. The key point is that your usage pattern is perfectly suited to a diesel SUV, and you will see the benefits both in terms of fuel efficiency and ease of ownership over the long term.
