Maruti Suzuki has a long list of fuel-efficient cars under Rs 15 lakh. These include the Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Alto K10 and Wagon R.

A flex-fuel version of the Maruti Wagon R is available and it’s priced way below the Rs 10 lakh mark.

Models like the Hyundai Exter, Tata Nexon, Kia Syros and Maruti Brezza offer a sunroof, albeit in certain variants.

Models like the Tata Altroz, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra Thar, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon offer a diesel powertrain option under Rs 15 lakh.

I currently own a 2015 Swift Dzire diesel and want to replace it with a car that is powerful, reliable, comfortable for long trips, fuel-efficient, easy on the pocket, safe, and practical for a family of two adults and two kids. My budget is Rs. 12-13 lakh. I am considering the Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Kushaq Classic variant. Please suggest which car and variant I should choose. My annual running is around 10,000-12,000 km.

Given your requirements, the Skoda Kushaq Classic 1.0 TSI is the best fit. This Skoda car offers a strong turbo petrol engine that feels genuinely powerful on highways, a comfortable ride and a well-built cabin. The 1.0 TSI is a proven engine, and your annual running of 10-12,000 km makes petrol the right choice. The Kushaq also gets an updated air-con, which is more suited to our climate conditions than the Kylaq's. We think it strikes the best balance between power, reliability, comfort and long-term ownership satisfaction.

Which car is the best for 80km daily commute under 15 lakhs that has good safety rating and fuel efficiency? Please suggest.

For an 80km daily commute under Rs. 15 lakh, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is the best fit. At this running, diesel makes the most financial sense, and the 3XO is one of the few diesel options left in this price band. It is a safe car with a strong safety rating, and the diesel engine is efficient and well suited to long daily runs. You can even opt for the AMT automatic gearbox for greater convenience. The 3XO also offers a comfortable ride, good feature list and a wide cabin, making it a practical 5 seater. If you prefer a petrol, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the alternative. It is reliable, efficient and has a good safety rating, but at 80km a day the diesel 3XO will be significantly cheaper to run. The 3XO diesel is the more sensible choice for your usage.

Hey experts, I am looking for a fun-to-drive car that is also comfortable for a family of five. My budget is around Rs 11 lakh on-road. I am currently considering the new Brezza Turbo and the Fronx. Around 70% of my driving is in the city and 305 on the highway. Which one should I go for? Are there any other cars that would fit my requirements?

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza Turbo. It is the better fit for your requirements. It offers a wider cabin, better rear-seat comfort and a more upright seating position, which makes it easier for family members to get in and out. The turbo petrol engine adds the fun-to-drive element you are looking for, while the Brezza's suspension setup strikes a good balance between city comfort and highway stability. The Fronx is a good car, but it is slightly smaller and more crossover-like in its proportions. It does not offer the same level of rear seat space or overall practicality as the Brezza. Given your usage split of 70% city and 30% highway, the Brezza Turbo is the more rounded package.

Hello Experts, I have come across the following option: a 2023 Skoda Slavia Ambition 1.5 TSI Manual (second owner) with only 10,500 km on the odometer. The car is mechanically bone stock and has been maintained exclusively at authorised Skoda service centres, with complete service records. It was last serviced in May 2024. It is covered by zero-depreciation insurance, an active AMC service package valid until 2027, and an extended warranty valid until 2029. The car also has a few tasteful aesthetic upgrades, including 17-inch Skoda Kushaq rims with Continental 205/50 R17 tyres, OEM top-spec Style projector headlights, a trunk lip spoiler, and black-wrapped front grille and trunk accents. The owner is selling it due to lack of usage. I have test-driven the car twice, and it seems to be in great condition. The owner has already shared all the previous documents and service records with me and is open to having the car inspected at Skoda or anywhere else. The first owner's details have also been shared openly. Everything looks clean so far. The asking price is Rs. 12 lakh. As a driving enthusiast, I am massively tempted to buy it, but I would like an expert opinion. I also have another option: a Honda Elevate VX Manual, driven for 16,000 km, with a single owner, priced at Rs. 11.25 lakh. Please help me decide. The Slavia is the only 1.5-litre manual I have come across at this price. Many thanks in advance.

Go for the Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI manual. As a driving enthusiast, this is exactly the kind of car you should be looking for. The 1.5 TSI is a genuinely strong engine with excellent performance, and the manual gearbox makes it a far more engaging car to drive than the Elevate. The fact that it is a rare find in the used market only adds to its appeal. The car itself sounds very clean. Full service history at authorised Skoda workshops, an active AMC, extended warranty till 2029 and zero depreciation insurance all point to a well-maintained example. The only thing to check is the price. Rs 12 lakh is on the higher side for a second-owner 2023 Ambition (entry-level), despite the upgrades and warranty. Remember, the 1.5 TSI MT was discontinued because of low demand, and finding a buyer in the used car market isn't going to be easy unless, of course, a driving enthusiast like you shows interest. Realistically, if you can get the price down below Rs 11 lakh, it could be worth opting for. Else, the Elevate seems like the more sensible option.

I want to buy a new car with a budget of around Rs. 15 lakh. I am open to either diesel or EV options. My annual running is around 12,000 km, including 4-5 highway trips a year. I have a family of four adults. Which car and variant should I consider?

Given your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is the most sensible recommendation. The diesel engine is efficient and well suited to your usage pattern, and the 3XO is one of the most spacious compact SUVs, with a wide rear bench that comfortably accommodates four adults. It also offers a good balance of ride comfort and highway stability, making it well suited to your occasional long-distance trips. The diesel engine will help keep running costs in check over time, and the 3XO is a well-rounded package with strong safety credentials and a good feature set for the price. The only real drawback is that the boot is on the smaller side for the segment, so if you regularly travel with a lot of luggage, you may need to plan accordingly. If you are open to an EV and have home charging available, the Tata Nexon EV is worth considering as a city-friendly alternative, but given your highway usage and annual running, the diesel 3XO is the more practical and cost-effective choice.
