It has been four and a half years since Volkswagen brought the Taigun to India. Come April 2026, however, the German automaker is expected to introduce the first facelift of the Taigun featuring various exterior and interior updates alongside a new transmission option. Leading up to its India launch, test mules of Volkswagen’s upcoming midsize SUV have already been spied on public roads. All that said, here’s what you can expect from the updated VW Taigun.

1. What to expect on the outside of the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun?

Could borrow some design elements from the flagship Tayron R-Line SUV

While these spy shots show a left-hand-drive test mule, the overall styling seen here are likely to be carried over to the right-hand-drive model for India. One of the most apparent changes to the outside of the 2026 Taigun can be seen on the front fascia. The revised LED headlamps are now paired with a connecting LED element running across the sleek grille which also houses an illuminated VW logo in the centre – these are similar to what is seen in the Tayron R-Line flagship SUV.

The front bumper and lower apron have also been redesigned for a bolder look and get shiny horizontal elements. Volkswagen is likely to offer new designs for the alloy wheels with this facelift, though no major changes to the sides are expected. The Taigun facelift is also expected to come with tail-lamps with mildly tweaked LED internals and an updated rear bumper, offering a more modern look at the back. The overall form-factor of the Taigun will soldier on as is with this facelift, though.

2. What could be new inside the Volkswagen Taigun facelift?

Changes to the interior are expected to include new trim and colour choices

While exact details regarding the interior of the updated Taigun are unavailable at the moment, a thorough makeover is not expected with this facelift. However, Volkswagen could offer the 2026 Taigun with new interior trim and perhaps even a new colour theme for a refreshed look and feel. To enhance comfort, the German marque could also choose to upgrade the air-conditioning system for improved cooling – a measure Skoda implemented with the newly launched Kushaq facelift.

3. What new features are expected with the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun?

Volkswagen could introduce some features first seen in the updated Kushaq

When it comes to the Taigun facelift’s feature set, it is unclear if VW will emulate what Skoda did with the recently launched Kushaq facelift. If the German brand decides to go ahead down that path, higher variants of the 2026 Taigun will be made available with a panoramic sunroof and a larger digital instrument cluster, while rear seats with a massaging function could also be on offer. Some of the other features expected to be carried over to the updated Taigun from the outgoing model include automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and a touch-infotainment system.

4. What will be the powertrain options of the Volkswagen Taigun facelift?

Volkswagen Taigun TSI engine

The 2026 Volkswagen Taigun is to soldier on with the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engines currently powering the pre-facelift model. The three-cylinder TSI motor puts out 115hp and 178Nm, with the larger four-cylinder mill capable of 150hp and 250Nm of torque. While the latter should continue with its 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic gearbox, the update could see the smaller 1.0-litre engine being mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission that is already available with the Kushaq facelift, thus replacing the outgoing 6-speed automatic option. This mill can also be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the pre-facelift Taigun, which will be the case with the updated model as well.

5. What will be the price of the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun?

Considering all the likely updates and add-ons that expected to be introduced with the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun, its prices are also likely go up as compared to the pre-facelift model. For reference, the price of the pre-facelift Taigun stretches from Rs 11.42 lakh to Rs 19.19 lakh (ex-showroom), while its Skoda rival's prices went up by up to Rs 94,000 over its predecessor. In the hotly contested midsize SUV segment, the Volkswagen Taigun facelift will face-off against the likes of the Citroen AircrossHonda ElevateHyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Renault Duster and Tata Sierra.
