TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak climb charts as Activa loses share in Q1 FY2026

EVs continue to gain momentum as the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak find a spot among India’s top 10 best-selling scooters for the April-June 2025 quarter. While the Honda Activa still leads the charts, its market share has dropped notably. Meanwhile, TVS is seeing solid growth across ICE and EV segments, while Bajaj continues to gain ground in the EV space.

Scooters outperform bikes in Q1 FY2026

Scooter sales touched 1.66 million units in the April–June 2025 quarter

In Q1 FY2026, the scooter segment recorded sales of 1.66 million units, with only a minor 0.2 percent year-on-year drop. This performance was significantly better than motorcycles and mopeds, which witnessed a decline of 9.2 percent and 11 percent respectively. The steady demand can be attributed to the consistent popularity of key models that continue to drive volumes.

Honda leads, but growth slows

The Honda Activa continues to dominate the scooter market with over 5.68 lakh units sold. However, its sales dropped by 20 percent year-on-year, lowering its market share from 45 percent to 34 percent. The Honda Dio also registered a decline of 16 percent, totalling 71,053 units. As a result, Honda’s overall scooter sales — including nearly 6.40 lakh ICE units and 2,288 EVs — dropped 19 percent year-on-year, causing its total scooter market share to shrink to 39 percent from 48 percent.

TVS Jupiter and iQube post impressive growth

TVS Jupiter saw a strong 37 percent growth with over 3 lakh units sold, continuing its momentum from FY2025 where it recorded its best-ever yearly sales. It retains its second position and forms the bulk of TVS’ total ICE scooter sales of over 4.75 lakh. However, the Ntorq saw a 16 percent drop with 73,410 units sold.

The electric iQube contributed strongly with sales of just under 70,000 units in Q1 FY2026, marking a 41 percent increase year-on-year. This made it the highest-selling EV in the country and helped boost TVS’ overall scooter market share from 23 percent to 29 percent. Its growth was driven in part by recent price cuts.

Bajaj Chetak closes in on iQube

The Bajaj Chetak recorded over 62,000 units in Q1 FY2026, up 53 percent year-on-year, trailing the iQube by just under 7,000 units. The launch of the new entry-level Chetak 3001 variant appears to have boosted demand. It now sits below the Chetak 3503 and offers a value-focused alternative between TVS’ iQube 2.2 kWh and 3.5 kWh models.

Suzuki Access remains bestselling 125cc scooter

The Suzuki Access remains a strong contender with over 1.92 lakh units sold in Q1 FY2026, up 8 percent year-on-year. As Suzuki’s best-selling product and one of the pioneers in the 125cc category, it maintains solid performance.

Yamaha, Hero follow closely

The Yamaha Ray ZR registered sales of 41,480 units, down 4 percent, placing it ninth. Hero’s Destini 125 took the tenth spot with 39,551 units, a 12 percent growth. Just missing out on the top 10 list was the Ather Rizta, which clocked 34,149 units and ranked eleventh. Launched in April 2024, the Rizta has already surpassed the 1 lakh units mark, with cumulative sales of over 1.23 lakh units by end-June 2025.

125cc scooters and EVs see rising popularity

Apart from the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak, all other scooters in the Top 10 are either 125cc models or have 125cc siblings, indicating a clear consumer shift from 100cc to more powerful and feature-rich offerings.

What’s next in the EV space?

New electric scooters coming from TVS and Yamaha

TVS is reportedly working on a new entry-level electric scooter, likely to be called the Orbiter. Meanwhile, Yamaha is preparing to enter the electric scooter space through a partnership with Bengaluru-based startup River Mobility. Kinetic Watts and Volts has re-entered the scooter space with its DX electric scooter. Vida has launched the VX2 family electric scooter with Baas (Battery-as-a-service) plan that brings the entry point to electric scooters much lower and accessible. All these things should positively impact the scooter market and in particular the electric 2-wheeler segment.
