Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
The GT 650 is a neo-retro cafe racer motorcycle that is offered in 3 variants: Standard, Blacked Out, and Chrome. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 price in India starts at ₹3.53 lakh and goes up to ₹3.82 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 on road price generally falls between ₹3.91 lakh and ₹4.66 lakh, depending on RTO, insurance, and various other factors.
The Continental GT 650 is powered by a 648 cc, air-oil-cooled, parallel-twin petrol engine that’s paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The motor produces 47 bhp (34.9 kW) at 7,250 rpm and 52.3 Nm of torque at 5,150 rpm. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is not tuned for outright aggression, but it is really loved by riders who enjoy steady cornering and a connected riding feel. And despite clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs creating a committed riding posture, the GT 650 feels stable, predictable, and confidence-inspiring once you settle into its rhythm.
The GT 650 sits alongside the Interceptor 650 and shares the same platform, but the riding experience is very different. Where the Interceptor feels relaxed and upright, the Continental GT 650 feels lower, sportier, and more focused, especially once the road starts to open up.
GT 650 Chassis, Handling & Design
The frame of this Royal Enfield bike has been developed in collaboration with Harris Performance, and it’s quite evident in the bike’s balance. The steel tubular frame, telescopic front forks, and twin rear shocks give this motorcycle a planted feel through corners. Visually, the Continental GT 650 stays true to classic cafe racer cues. The sculpted fuel tank, round headlamp, slim tail section, and twin exhausts give it a timeless look. Depending on the variant, you also get different finishes, including blacked-out components and chrome detailing.
GT 650 Top Speed & Weight
The Continental GT 650 top speed falls between 169-170 kmph, while the company-claimed top cruising speed is 120 kmph, but it can vary depending on the riding conditions. Cruising at highway speeds feels relaxed, and there is enough power in reserve for quick overtakes. The Continental GT 650 mileage is 27 kmpl (company-claimed), while real-world fuel economy usually falls in the 24-25 kmpl range. So, you don’t have to worry about stopping for frequent fuel stops. The Continental GT 650 weight is 214 kg (kerb). While this heft adds stability at higher speeds, it can feel noticeable during slow-speed manoeuvres.
GT 650 Rivals
The GT 650 rivals the Interceptor 650, Triumph Speed Twin 900, Kawasaki Z650RS, etc.

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 expert review
We like
Handling, retro charm
Design, uniqueness on the road
We don't like
Limited practicality
Committed ergonomics
9.0
The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 follows a classic cafe racer design with low clip-on handlebars, a sporty stance and timeless styling. New paint schemes add freshness to the overall look, and it remains a motorcycle that encourages you to ride simply for the enjoyment of being on the road. One thing to note is that the chrome clutch and crankcase covers can show signs of pitting and lose their shine sooner than expected.
7.0
The Continental GT 650 has a committed riding position, but it is not as extreme as it appears. The low handlebars place more weight on the wrists, and frequent braking, acceleration and rough roads can become tiring over longer rides. The seat is firmer than the Interceptor’s, and some riders may find that their knees touch the lower edge of the fuel tank. While it is not the most comfortable motorcycle for long-distance touring, the ergonomics suit its cafe racer character well.
8.0
The GT 65 is powered by a 648cc parallel-twin engine that produces 47hp. The engine delivers smooth performance, strong acceleration and enough power for both city riding and highway use. While the BS6 version feels slightly softer than the earlier model, it remains enjoyable and rewards riders who explore the higher rev range. The Continental GT 650 also benefits from CEAT Zoom Cruz tyres, which provide better grip and confidence than the earlier tyres. The motorcycle feels composed, communicative and predictable when ridden enthusiastically.
7.0
The Continental GT 650 feels agile and engaging. The suspension has a firm setup but absorbs larger bumps and potholes without crashing through them. Generous ground clearance also makes it more usable on Indian roads than its sporty appearance might suggest. The motorcycle enjoys being ridden through corners and feels stable when pushed. However, the suspension can sometimes limit its natural agility, and sharper brakes would better match its sporty nature. Even so, braking performance remains confidence inspiring.
6.0
The Continental GT 650 comes with dual-channel ABS and strong braking performance. Improved CEAT tyres also add to rider confidence by offering better grip and feedback.
8.0
The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a charming cafe racer with a smooth twin-cylinder engine, engaging handling and plenty of visual appeal. It asks for some compromise in comfort, but that comes with the territory of its sporty design. For riders looking for a motorcycle that prioritises style, character and an involving riding experience, the Continental GT 650 remains an easy machine to enjoy.

Questions you may find useful
I am planning to buy the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 in November. Is there any possibility that Royal Enfield might discontinue the model before then?
There are no plans to discontinue the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 anytime soon so you can wait as long as you'd like before purchasing it. In fact, toward the end of the calendar year, both the Continental GT and Interceptor are likely to be updated in a comprehensive way. Expect more features, better braking and suspension hardware and some new colours and cosmetic touches as well.
I’m confused between the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 (Bear 650). My most use will be night rides and Sunday short spins, mostly in the city. I’m also open to other bike recommendations. Please suggest.
The two Royal Enfield 650s you are looking at are limited in terms of comfort in one way or another. The Continental GT 650 - with its committed rider's triangle - will be comfortable only for short blasts before you start to become uncomfortable. Meanwhile, with its rather stiff rear suspension, the Bear 650 will toss you around over anything other than perfect tarmac roads. Between the two, we'd still recommend choosing the Continental because at least you have the peace of mind of tubeless tyres if you fit the accessory alloy wheels to it, which isn't possible on the Bear. If you are open to considering the Interceptor, that makes for a fun Sunday bike, too, with far fewer compromises than both of its aforementioned siblings. A test ride of all three will help you make up your mind.
Hi Autocar Team. I’m a 28-year-old man, 5 ft 4 in tall, planning to buy my first motorcycle. I really love the cafe racer body style and want to buy a bike in this segment. My budget is ₹5 lakh, and I will use it for daily city commuting of about 8-10 km and short weekend trips. My focus is on good mileage, comfort, low maintenance costs and a strong, reputable service network. Please suggest a suitable motorcycle.
Cafe racers are known for many things, but comfort isn't one of them - we must clarify this at the outset before we proceed. Since this is going to be your first motorcycle, we'd recommend getting a roadster or street naked because they will be vastly more comfortable and usable. As a first bike, there is a litany of good options from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM, TVS and Royal Enfield. Look for something around the 25-30hp mark ideally. If you really have your heart set on a cafe racer, the only two options in your budget are the Triumph Thruxton 400 and the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. Both are quite powerful and won't be ideal beginner machines because of their committed riding positions. The Royal Enfield is also a rather heavy machine, which won't be easy to manage due to your stature.
