Royal Enfield Classic 650

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 is instantly recognisable as a Classic, but its larger proportions and twin exhausts clearly set it apart from the smaller model. Design is one of its biggest strengths, with excellent fit and finish and impressive attention to detail. Features such as chrome-finished switch cubes and wheel hubs add to the premium feel, while the top variant gets extensive chrome bodywork. The only visual drawback is the noticeable gap between the rear wheel and fender, which looks slightly out of place on an otherwise beautifully styled motorcycle.

The Classic 650 offers a commanding and natural riding position that feels comfortable for long hours in the saddle. The rider triangle is well judged, making the motorcycle easy to settle into for relaxed rides and highway journeys. However, suspension comfort is not as plush as expected from a motorcycle carrying the Classic name. The twin rear shock absorbers have a firm setup, and while they are slightly improved over some other models using a similar arrangement, bumps and rough patches are still felt quite noticeably. Another drawback is the use of tubed wire-spoke wheels.

This Royal Enfield bike is  powered by the familiar 648cc parallel-twin engine. It delivers smooth refinement, easy-going yet punchy performance, and a pleasing exhaust note. The motor feels relaxed during everyday riding and has enough performance for effortless highway cruising.

At 243kg, the Classic 650 is a heavy motorcycle, and that weight is noticeable while pushing it around or making U-turns. Once on the move, however, the weight is managed well and becomes far less noticeable than expected.

Despite its weight, the Classic 650 handles surprisingly well. It feels composed and confidence inspiring on twisty roads, making it easier to ride than its kerb weight suggests. The conventional telescopic fork suits the motorcycle’s character and performs adequately. Braking performance is strong, although the rear brake can feel a little aggressive and could benefit from a more progressive initial bite.

The feature list is simple and focused. The Classic 650 gets a digi-analogue instrument cluster, a USB-C charging port, a slip-and-assist clutch, and adjustable levers. The overall approach remains traditional rather than feature-loaded.

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 is a motorcycle that appeals more to the heart than the head. Its standout design, premium finish, refined twin-cylinder engine, and relaxed riding experience make it highly desirable.
