I've already test-ridden the Triumph Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Harley-Davidson X440 T and Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. The Speed 400 felt too small for me. I'm also a little concerned about Harley-Davidson's service experience, so I'm leaning towards something with a stronger reputation for reliability. I rented the Guerrilla 450 for a day and really enjoyed it, but the engine heat bothered me. That got me thinking that if I'm going to deal with heat anyway, perhaps I should buy a 650cc motorcycle since I plan to keep it for 7-10 years. I'm now considering the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. I plan to rent both before deciding. I'm an aggressive rider and enjoy having strong performance and control. What do you think?

You have already done the right thing by test riding the bikes on your shortlist. That is the best way to make a decision, because all of these are very different motorcycles in terms of character and ownership experience.

Given that you are an aggressive rider who likes a bit of punch, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 makes more sense because it has plenty of performance as well as character, and you can always upgrade the suspension and tyres to improve its handling. The Continental GT 650 is an eye-catching and unique motorcycle, but its committed riding position is not practical for long-term ownership.

Do bear in mind that updates to both of these Royal Enfield bikes are expected soon, so we'd advise you to wait.

@autocar.india I read your point on the same day you commented! And I have been waiting for the Interceptor 650 updated version or 750 since that day whichever I’ll like at that time! And I also rented Bear 650 from Gurgaon for a day! That bike was 25k km driven! I won’t judge tires based on that! But that tires were skidding and I couldn’t get that confidence on that bike! But I learnt that day that I can ride that bike on highways! My preferences changed that day! So, I am happy to wait for Interceptor 650 or 750 that is about to get launched in November as per reports! And then judge accordingly! Thanks for the advice! It actually helped me from regretting any decision for 7-10 years! Thanks!😌😌

I am a first-time driver with an annual running of no more than 6,000 km and need an automatic car. I am confused between the Tata Nexon 1.2 AMT Creative+ at around Rs. 13 lakh, which offers features such as a 360-degree camera and panoramic sunroof, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi AT at a similar price. Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi automatic. The torque converter automatic is far smoother and more predictable in stop-start traffic and on hilly terrain compared to the Tata Nexon AMT, which can feel jerky at low speeds and on the hills. This Maruti Suzuki car is a more reliable and hassle-free car to own, with Maruti's strong service network and lower maintenance costs. If you can stretch your budget, the ZXi variant is worth considering for the added features, but the VXi itself is a solid, no-nonsense choice. You can also consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which gets a turbo-petrol engine and a torque converter. It will deliver punchier performance and is better value than the Brezza

I'm planning to buy my first bike this year that I intend to use for 10km daily commute within Pune city, but I also want to take it for long trips and sometimes off-roading. Therefore, I want a reliable option that will be easy to manage in traffic and on bad roads but it should also be a solid highway tourer that is truly fun to ride. I have been eyeing the Scrambler 400X and Apache RTX but am unable to decide between these two. The Apache is significantly cheaper but the Triumph is more enjoyable. Also, I haven't heard the best feedback about TVS after-sales service and I don't know how reliable the bike would be. Is it worth waiting over 4 months for it?

Since this is your first bike and the RTX itself is a relatively unproven (albeit supremely capable) machine, we'd recommend you go for the 350cc Triumph Scrambler 400 X because it is the safer bet despite costing more. Service and reliability matter more in the real world than a fatter spec sheet or brochure and since the Scrambler is a simple, no-frills machine, there's less to go wrong with it too. Triumph also has a well spread out dealer and service network in Pune so you're covered well on that front.

The Honda CB350 will be more comfortable between the two bikes you've shortlisted purely because the Meteor's feet-forward seating posture puts more weight on your tailbone and will send shocks directly to your spine. Instead, we'd recommend you take a look at the Bullet 350 from RE's stable at a similar price. If you are open to looking at other segments, then the Hero Xpulse 210 and TVS Apache RTX 300 will offer you even more comfort and practicality (owing to their well-thought-out luggage racks), especially if you mount your wares on the bike.Take test rides of these bikes and then make your decision.

I’m planning to buy an electric scooter, but unfortunately, there aren’t many options that come with both ABS and traction control. Recently, I was riding my dad’s scooter when the front wheel locked up. Although I like the Ather Apex, I’m not comfortable with the fact that it doesn’t come with ABS. I have a couple of questions. Will all electric scooters eventually be mandated by law to have ABS? I also like the TVS X electric scooter, as it’s fun to ride. Is it a safe choice in terms of maintenance, considering it’s a relatively new model? I don’t use the scooter much and ride only around 1,000km a year. This is mainly a purchase for my happiness. My budget is up to Rs 5 lakh. I’m not considering a petrol scooter because of my low usage and the additional maintenance it would require. Any advice would be appreciated.

We know you are inclined towards an electric scooter but today the tiny pool of e-scooters that have ABS aren't very convincing options, despite their hefty price tags. Your options are Keeway Hypevolt-R, Yamaha Aerox E and TVS X, all of which (while they do fit in your budget) are quite expensive for what they offer you. Instead, since you have super low running, we'd strongly urge you to consider a hassle-free option like the Suzuki Access 125. Not only will you save a big chunk of money, ICE scooter maintainance is fairly straightforward with your low usage and given that the Access is a very popular option, sourcing parts and spares should be a quick and inexpensive affair. If you must have an EV with ABS, you should decide between the three options suggested above based on which one has a dealership & service centre near your residence.

I used to own a Honda Unicorn 150, eight years ago. Since then, I have only ridden scooters in the city and haven't ridden a motorcycle in 8 years. I am looking for a bike for 50 km of daily commute with a mix of city traffic and highway. I am looking for a smooth and reasonably powerful bike that is capable of comfortably cruising at 80-90 kph on highways. I needs a bike that offers a relaxed, comfortable riding posture and easy handling for city traffic. I have a maximum budget of Rs. 2 lakh. Which motorcycle would be the best fit for my transition back to riding? Should I shortlist SP160, Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid, and NX200?

Since you've had a Unicorn in the past, the Honda SP160 will offer a smooth transition back to motorcycling after a long break. Do bear in mind that all the bikes you've shortlisted will feel a little strained at 80-90kph owing to their small displacement and relatively modest outputs. You should also look at the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N160 models because they marry everyday usability with that added step of performance that your humdrum commuters don't offer. Take test rides of these bikes to see which one works best for you.
