Tata Punch sales cross 5 lakh unit milestone

The ex-showroom prices of the Punch’s petrol variants were hiked by up to Rs 17,090 this month.

The Tata Punch has hit the 5 lakh sales mark in just over three years since its launch in October 2021. This feat comes after the Punch became India’s bestselling car in 2024, surpassing even the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai Creta

Tata Punch sales analysis

Since its launch, the Punch has accounted for 29 percent of Tata Motors’ total PV sales of 17,39,646 units. In August 2022, it became the first SUV in India to achieve the 1,00,000 wholesales milestone in just 10 months. It crossed the 1,50,000 mark in 15 months after the launch, 2,00,000 in 20 months, 3,00,000 in 28 months and 4,00,000 in 2024, just 32 months after the launch. The most recent run from 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 wholesales took six months.

The best fiscal year for the Punch was FY2024, with 1,69,844 units, or average monthly sales of 14,153 units, as per wholesales data for the past 38 months seen in the table above. While the FY2025 has about three months left, the bestselling SUV already achieved 87 percent of its FY2024 tally, with average monthly sales of 16,452 units in the past nine months (up 27 percent YoY). It might set a new record during this fiscal, so stay tuned.

Tata Punch prices increased in 2025

This month, Tata Motors hiked the prices of 26 variants of the Tata Punch by Rs 7,090 (base Pure variant) to Rs 17,090 for the top-spec Adventure trim and the Creative Plus S AMT Camo variant. Prices of variants like the Pure (O), Adventure Plus S AMT and Creative Plus S Camo have been hiked by Rs 12,090.  

Tata had launched the Punch at Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom) to fill a “white space” in the PV market. The starting price of the Punch in 2025 has gone up to Rs 6.20 lakh. After its launch, carmakers like Citroen launched the C3 (Rs 6.16 lakh onwards), followed by the Hyundai Exter (Rs 6.20 lakh onwards).
