Hero Vida VX2: 3 reasons to buy and 2 not to

Hero recently expanded its electric scooter line-up with the more practical and very affordable Vida VX2 electric scooter. Here are three reasons why the Vida VX2 should be on your radar if you’re in the market for a new electric scooter. 

1 Tempting price

Vida VX2 can be bought on a BaaS plan reducing upfront costs.

Hero offers the Vida VX2 on a Battery as a Subscription plan, which means you pay for the scooter, save for the battery pack. This significantly reduces the upfront purchase cost, which is an important consideration in the budget-conscious family scooter buyer’s head. And with the introductory offers that Hero is currently offering the Vida VX2 with, the Go variant is priced at Rs 44,990, while the Plus variant commands just Rs 57,990 – both prices if purchased via the BaaS plan.

Even if you purchase the entire scooter outright, the pricing is quite stellar, undercutting some 110cc and 125cc petrol scooters. The Vida VX2 Go costs just Rs 73,840 while the VX2 Plus is priced at Rs 82,790.

2 Clean design and practical

VX2 has a more uncluttered design than V2 models.

With the earlier Vida V1 and V2 models, their out-of-the-box design and overall intent was to establish the brand in the market, but with the VX2 models, Hero is aiming to solidify its foothold in the burgeoning electric scooter segment. To that end, the company has priced it aggressively and also endowed the VX2 with a smooth, conservative and traditional-scooter look.

Add to that the fact that it is also a rather practical thing with a spacious underseat storage area and front glove compartment, the Vida VX2 has all the important boxes ticked.

3 Comfort and performance

It is comfortable for people of all shapes and sizes, has peppy performance.

The Vida VX2 is a family-oriented scooter, which means it needs to be manageable for shorter riders while being spacious for taller ones. And it strikes that balance quite well. Combine that with the measured yet well-judged performance on offer and you have a scooter that does very little wrong. 

It is not very sporty in the way it accelerates, but the overall performance is more than enough for a city runabout. Where it impresses is in just how polished and refined the riding experience is with perfectly judged accelerator response and almost no regen braking on a closed throttle, making for a delightfully smooth riding experience.

By now, you’ve probably gathered that the Vida VX2 is quite hard to fault but here are two small nitpicks we have with Hero’s latest EV.

1 Quality in some areas

Vida VX2 finished well for the most part but some areas can be better.

For the most part, Hero has done a good job with quality as well as fit and finish with the Vida VX2; however, some areas like the fiddly lock for the removable batteries can stand to improve further.

2 Screen interface and brightness

Vida VX2 uses a new 4.3-inch TFT display.

The VX2’s 4.3-in TFT display is a simpler, smaller and non-touchscreen unit compared to the V2’s huge 7-in unit. While it works well for the most part, some of the animations between the multiple menus aren’t seamless and its maximum brightness setting can stand to be brighter still.
