I am looking for a car that I can keep for the long term, around 8–10 years, with a budget of under Rs 15 lakh on-road in Bangalore. I would prefer an automatic with an SUV stance. My usage will mainly be a 15 km daily office commute, along with occasional highway trips. I am looking for something that looks modern, has enough space, and offers good after-sales service. A few options I have shortlisted are the Hyundai Venue/Sonet with DCT and the Renault Kiger with CVT. My main concern is whether DCTs are reliable for long-term ownership if they are regularly serviced, especially with bumper-to-bumper traffic 2–3 times a week.

Given the budget, usage and long-term ownership focus, we would recommend the Renault Kiger CVT over the Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet DCT. A daily 15 km office commute with frequent bumper-to-bumper traffic, along with occasional highway trips, is better suited to a CVT than a DCT. CVTs are smoother at low speeds and work well in stop-start traffic. They can also be less demanding in such conditions over the long term.DCTs can be reliable when maintained properly, but they are not the ideal choice for regular stop-start traffic. Repeated low-speed crawling can generate heat and accelerate clutch-pack wear, potentially leading to expensive repairs over time. The Kiger also offers a modern design, a spacious cabin and a good feature set for its price. Renault's after-sales service has improved in recent years, while the Kiger offers strong value for money in this segment. The budget also stretches further with the Kiger CVT, allowing a higher-spec variant with some money left over. In comparison, the Sonet and Venue are positioned slightly higher, so the same budget would typically mean settling for a mid-spec variant.

I am a first-time buyer, have just learned to drive, and am 6 feet tall. I have a family of four, including two toddlers. I am looking for an automatic SUV/crossover with good ground clearance. It should not be too big for a first-time driver. I mostly travel within Hyderabad city, and my office is just 7km away from my house.

Go for the Hyundai Venue 1.0 Turbo DCT. As a first-time buyer who has just learned driving, you want something that is easy to handle, not too big and still offers good ground clearance for Hyderabad roads. The Hyundai Venue fits that brief perfectly. It is compact enough to be easy to park and manoeuvre, while still offering a comfortable seating position for a 6-foot-tall driver and enough space for a family of four with two toddlers. The automatic gearbox in this Hyundai car is smooth, easy to use in city traffic, and low running costs make it a very sensible first car. The Skoda Kylaq automatic is also worth considering.

I am 73 years old and have been drive Hyundai Grand i10 since 2014. I am thinking of replacement and require only essential features. My usage is around 5000km per year with 80% driving on highways, 15% driving on hill mostly up to Solan and 5% within Delhi locally. I prefer a 5-seater automatic-sub 4m SUV that gives a better view of traffic ahead. My budget is 12-13 lakh. I want a car through which I can enjoy the experience of driving.

Given your usage pattern of 5,000 km a year with 80% highway driving, 15% hill driving and a preference for a sub-4m SUV with a higher seating position, the Skoda Kylaq 1.0 TSI automatic is the best fit. The turbo petrol engine offers strong mid-range performance, which is particularly useful on highways and during hill climbs, while the 6-speed torque converter automatic is smooth and reliable. The Kylaq also offers a higher seating position than your Grand i10, giving you a better view of the road ahead, and it is one of the more engaging cars to drive in this segment, which aligns with your requirement for driving pleasure. It is also available within your budget of Rs 12-13 lakh. The only drawback is that the rear seat is not the most spacious in the segment, but for your usage as a 5-seater with 4 as the exception, it should be adequate. If you want a more premium cabin and slightly better rear seat space, the Hyundai Venue is a good alternative, but the Kylaq remains the better driver's car.

Hi Team, I am planning to purchase my first family car and would appreciate some expert advice from the community. Initially, I explored the sub-4-meter SUV segment with a budget of around ₹15 lakh. While these vehicles offer good features and value for money, I felt they lacked the cabin and rear-seat space required for comfortable family use. Since I primarily drive in city traffic, an automatic transmission is a must-have. Based on my requirements, I have now shifted my focus to the compact SUV segment. Within my budget of approximately ₹19–20 lakh, the two vehicles that stand out are the **Hyundai Creta S(O) iVT (Summer Edition)** and the **Kia Seltos HTK(O) iVT**, both with naturally aspirated petrol engines. However, I am now in a dilemma because the Creta facelift is expected to launch soon. I am unsure whether I should proceed with the current **Creta S(O) iVT Summer Edition**, choose the **new Seltos HTK(O) iVT**, or wait for the upcoming Creta facelift. My priorities are: * Family comfort and rear-seat space * Automatic transmission * Long-term reliability * Safety * Ride quality and comfort * Good feature set and overall value for money I would be grateful for your suggestions on which option would be the better choice and the reasons behind your recommendation. If you own either of these vehicles, I would especially appreciate hearing about your real-world ownership experience.
