Trending Questions on Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I currently own a petrol Maruti Suzuki Ertiga purchased in 2021, that has covered around 85,000 km. It currently gives me around 7-8 kpl in city driving, so increasing fuel costs have made me consider switching to a CNG car. I also no longer require the Ertiga's third-row seats, as my son and daughter are now in college, so a five-seater would be sufficient for my needs. I am interested in the CNG and AMT combination, as I am 48 years old and believe an automatic transmission would make frequent city driving and traffic much less tiring. Currently, I am considering Tata Punch Adventure S CNG AMT, Tata Altroz Creative S CNG AMT, Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi CNG, Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi CNG and Maruti Suzuki Baleno Zeta CNG. The Punch Adventure S CNG AMT is currently my preferred choice because it seems to offer a good balance of features, practicality and running costs. At its price, I also get more features, a CNG + AMT combination and what appears to be a very strong safety package. I was also considering the Brezza ZXi and VXi CNG, particularly for their larger size and Maruti's reputation for reliability. However, the lack of a proper spare wheel concerns me, as I have experienced tyre punctures several times. My budget is a maximum of Rs. 14 lakh. I am also unsure whether an electric car under Rs. 14 lakh would be suitable for me, as I would prefer to avoid range anxiety at this point. Based on your road tests and experience, which of these cars would you recommend? Is the Punch Adventure S CNG AMT the best choice for my requirements, or should I seriously consider one of the other options? Also, is there another car I may have overlooked?
Based on your requirements, the Tata Punch Adventure S CNG AMT is a very sensible choice. It offers the CNG + AMT combination you are looking for, a strong safety package and a higher seating position that makes city driving less tiring. The Punch is also well priced for what it offers and is a genuinely practical five-seater.That said, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi CNG is still worth serious consideration. It is a larger car with a more powerful engine, better rear seat space and a more comfortable ride over broken roads. Maruti's service network and long-term reliability track record are also strong advantages. The lack of a proper spare wheel is a drawback, but it is not a deal-breaker if you are comfortable carrying a puncture repair kit and using roadside assistance. The Tata Altroz Creative S CNG AMT is also a good option if you prefer a more premium hatchback experience, but it does not offer the same ground clearance or seating position as the Punch. On the electric car question, you are right to be cautious. Most EVs under Rs. 14 lakh have relatively modest real-world range, and unless you have a predictable daily commute and home charging, range anxiety can be a genuine concern.Overall, the Punch Adventure S CNG AMT is the best fit for your requirements. It offers the right balance of fuel efficiency, ease of driving, safety and practicality for your current needs. The Brezza ZXi CNG is the better choice if you prioritise space, power and long-term ownership confidence. Both are strong options, so the final decision comes down to whether you value the Punch's CNG + AMT combination and higher seating position more than the Brezza's size and Maruti ownership experience.
Hi. I am looking for an SUV in the Rs 15-18 lakh range. I am from Bangalore, and my driving is mainly in the city. At present, I drive a Volkswagen Vento. We are six members in the family.
With a budget of Rs 15-18 lakh, city-focused running in Bangalore, and a family of six, the Kia Carens Clavis or the Maruti XL6 would be good options. Both offer comfy seating for 6, and between the two, the Kia car mentioned above feels a bit more upmarket. They are both not your traditional SUV's but come with some strong styling cues to minimize the MPV stance. If you must have an SUV body style, then opt for the Hyundai Alcazar, which also offers seating for 6, though the third row is best for kids.
My budget is Rs. 15 lakh. We are a family of four adults and two young kids (12 and 6 years old). Occasionally, we also travel with my two in-laws. Which is the best manual petrol car with good mileage, easy servicing, and easily available spare parts?
To buy a car under Rs. 15 Lakh for a family of four adults, two young children, and occasional trips with your in-laws, the priority should be space, comfort, and low running costs. The Kia Carens Clavis 1.5-litre NA petrol manual is the best fit here. It is one of the few cars in this price range that genuinely accommodates seven people comfortably, has a proven and reliable petrol engine, delivers decent fuel efficiency and benefits from Kia’s strong aftersales support. The sliding second row makes access to the third row easier, and the overall ownership experience is hassle-free. The only drawback of this Kia car is that the boot space is limited with all three rows up, but for your usage pattern, it strikes the right balance between practicality and cost of ownership.
My current vehicle is a Hyundai Xcent, and I want to sell it and buy a 6 or 7-seater car. My budget is Rs 10-15 lakh. Which car would you suggest?
Within Rs 10-15 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the best all rounder. It gives the most usable third row at this price, so adults can sit there for short to medium drives, and the ride stays comfortable over broken roads. The light steering and good all-round visibility make it easy to handle in traffic, and when you fold the last row you get a big boot for airport runs or luggage-heavy trips. Its got excellent fuel economy, and in your budget, you should be able to get a top spec version and even an automatic gearbox if you like. You could also try Toyota's version of the Ertiga - the Rumion - or if you want captain's chairs in the middle row, there is the Maruti Suzuki XL6.Some things to note: with seven on board the petrol will need a few more gear changes on hills, and you only get the option of a single petrol engine or a CNG version. Another great option is the Kia Carens Clavis, which is big on space, practicality, comfort and quality. However, at your budget, you will only get lower variants and the basic 1.5-litre petrol engine, and will have to spend more to get the turbo petrol or diesel versions. If you're able to up your budget by a few lakhs, it is definitely worth considering.
I am currently driving a 2015 Maruti Wagon R and am now planning to upgrade. I have a family of six, and at times we all travel together. My daily driving is around 20 km in the city, along with one or two hill trips every year. Could you please suggest the most suitable car within a budget of ₹12 lakh?
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga if your priority is comfortably accommodating all six family members while still keeping ownership easy and stress-free within your budget. Coming from a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, the Ertiga will feel like a major upgrade with a much more spacious cabin, comfortable ride and easy drivability in the city. While still being efficient and inexpensive to maintain over the long term. It is also comfortable enough for occasional hill drives and highway trips with the entire family, which makes it the most rounded option for your usage. If you want something smaller and easier to drive in tight city conditions, you could also consider waiting for the turbo petrol version of the Renault Triber, which is expected later this year. The Triber already offers impressive space for its size and is very practical for family use. Also, a turbo petrol engine would make it far better suited for highway and hill driving than the current naturally aspirated motor.
