Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the all-new Alto hatchback on August 18 in India, and just prior to that, we have acquired its dimensions and variant details. Our sources have also confirmed that the next-gen Alto will carry the K10 nameplate and will be sold alongside the current 800.

  • Alto K10 will be based on new modular Heartect platform
  • Retains the same width as Alto 800

The new Alto K10 measures 3,530mm in length, 1,490mm in width, and 1,520mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,380mm. While the width is the same as the current Alto 800, the upcoming model will be 85mm longer, 45mm taller, with a wheelbase increase of 20mm. The increase in size and a gross weight of 1,150kg can be attributed to the new modular Heartect platform that the new Alto K10 is based on.

When compared to the only rival in its class, the Renault Kwid, the Alto K10 is 201mm shorter, 30mm taller and 89mm narrower. The Kwid also has 42mm of extra wheelbase in comparison to the new Alto.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: engine, variants

As we've reported before, powering the new hatchback will be the 1.0-litre, K10C DualJet unit with idle start/stop tech that produces 67hp and 89Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. This powertrain set-up is also offered on the S-Presso and Celerio. Meanwhile, the 48hp, 0.8-litre engine will only be reserved for the ongoing, current-gen Alto 800, for now. Like with other Maruti Suzuki vehicles, the upcoming Alto K10 is expected to come in CNG guise as well.

It will have a total of 12 variants at launch; eight will be manual – STD, STD(O), LXI, LXI(O), VXI, VXI(O), VXI+ and VXI+(O) – and four automatic, VXI, VXI(O), VXI+, and VXI+(O).

2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: design and features

Spy photos of the new Alto K10 suggest a refreshed design language, with styling cues inspired by the second-gen Celerio. On the inside, the hatchback is expected to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its other expected features include dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ESP and ABS as standard.
