As the competition in the midsize SUV intensifies, Hyundai has swung into action to fend off an attack from new rivals on its hot-selling SUV, the Creta, with the launch of a new limited-edition model. Called the Hyundai Creta Sports Edition, the model gets a number of cosmetic tweaks and feature additions.

Available only with the manual gearbox versions of the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel Creta, the Sports Edition is priced at Rs 12.78 lakh for the 1.6 petrol MT and Rs 14.13 lakh for the 1.6 diesel MT version. It’s only available in two paint schemes – Phantom Black and Polar White with a Phantom Black roof. The dual-tone paint scheme adds Rs 11,000 to the Hyundai Creta Sports Edition’s price (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Exterior highlights of the Creta Sports Edition include a smoked effect for the projector headlights, a dark chrome finish for the grille, silver roof rails and skid plates, faux dual exhaust tips finished in chrome, black outside mirror casings, and a rear spoiler.

What’s different about the Creta Sports Edition’s interior is the all-black colour scheme, black fabric seats with 'Creta' embossed on them, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, contrast stitching for the seats, steering wheel and gear lever boot, along with silver surrounds for the AC vents and to top it off, an electric sunroof.

Based on the SX variant, the Creta Sports Edition also gets features such as automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control and wireless smartphone charging, to name a few. Dual airbags and ABS are standard as well.

Compared to the SX variant, the Hyundai Creta Sports Edition’s price is about Rs 54,000- 60,000 higher, taking into account all the cosmetic and feature additions.

Think the Hyundai Creta Sports Edition has what it takes to fend off an attack from the Kia Seltos and MG Hector? Let us know in the comments.
