A sub-Rs 10 lakh starting price has helped the new Thar attract a whole new section of customers. Mahindra claims 57 percent of the over 15,000 bookings for the Thar have come from first-time car buyers. In the 18 days since order books were opened, over 15,000 potential buyers have put down their money for the new Thar, with Mahindra receiving in excess of 65,000 enquiries for the 4x4 so far.

Interest levels in Mahindra’s new-gen 4x4 have been high, even before it was unveiled, and the first unit of the 2020 Mahindra Thar was auctioned for a staggering Rs 1.11 crore. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Swades Foundation to aid its COVID-19 relief and recovery programme.

The new Mahindra Thar is available in two main trim levels – the lower-spec AX and top-spec LX. Despite the significantly lower prices of the AX versions, it’s the higher-spec versions of the 2020 Mahindra Thar that are witnessing greater interest, with buyers opting for the convertible soft-top roof and automatic gearbox options. It has previously been confirmed that deliveries of the new Mahindra Thar will commence on November 1, 2020.
