I’m planning to buy an electric SUV in Delhi with an on-road budget of Rs. 20-21 lakh. My usage will mainly involve a 30-40 km daily office commute, along with occasional weekend highway trips. The VinFast VF6 Wind Infinity has caught my attention because of its design, features, and range, but I’m hesitant about its after-sales support, service network, resale value, and long-term reliability. Given my requirements, would you recommend the VF6, or is there a better EV in this price range that offers a more dependable ownership experience?
Given your usage pattern of a 30-40 km daily commute with occasional highway trips, the VinFast VF6 Wind Infinity is a tempting option with its strong range and feature set. However, your concerns about after-sales support, service network and long-term reliability are valid. VinFast is still a relatively new player in India, and while the company is making efforts to establish a service network, it does not yet have reach of more established brands. So it really boils down to the support you have in your area. If there is a dealer close to you and in the areas you drive to, you could go ahead with the car. As for the company itself, Vinfast is investing in expanding their network and has also massive plans for India for their auto business as well as other businesses like the GSM app based taxi service. From that point of view you need not worry as they are not a fly-by-night operator. If you would however you would prefer an electric car from an established brand, the Mahindra BE6 would be a good option as it too has a striking coupe like design, as this seems to be what you prefer. As an all rounder the Hyundai Creta EV would be a good option.
Hi team, I am planning to buy an EV SUV. The budget is around 30 lakh. My priority is reliability and service support. Shortlisted Harrier QWD, VF7 AWD, and XEV 9e. Please suggest. Any chance Mahindra launching AWD variant soon? Thanks in advance.
For your requirement, we would pick the Mahindra XEV 9e. It feels the most complete package here, with a large battery, strong real-world range and a cabin experience that genuinely feels special and premium. It also benefits from Mahindra’s much stronger sales and service footprint compared to a new entrant like VinFast. The Tata Harrier EV QWD is undeniably quick and impressive, but its range is meaningfully lower than the XEV 9e, which makes the Mahindra the easier long-term ownership proposition if range matters to you. Tata’s service reach is strong, but consistency can still vary depending on your city and dealership. The VF7 AWD is the wildcard. It is quick, fun and interesting, but VinFast’s sales and service network in India is still very limited compared to Mahindra and Tata, which makes it a harder recommendation when reliability and support are explicitly your top priorities.
I live in Andhra Pradesh, and most of my driving is on quarry roads and double-lane roads. I drive nearly 5,000 km per month. Please suggest a 7-seater SUV, MPV, or EV with captain seats within a budget of ₹30-40 lakh.
Your usage and requirements point to a tough yet comfortable diesel SUV with lots of space. In that use, the Tata Safari 6-seat diesel automatic Accomplished X+ fits you best. It rides comfortably on broken surfaces, feels steady at highway speeds, and the captain seats in the middle row are wide and easy to get in and out of, which matters when you are in the car for hours every day. They're also widely adjustable and even ventilated, which is a bonus. The diesel with an automatic gearbox means less effort in slow stretches and relaxed cruising between towns, and diesel makes sense for your monthly distance.Know the trade-offs. With all three rows up, boot space is tight, so plan for a roof carrier if you carry a lot of luggage, and Tata's aftersales and service network isn't quite as good as some other brands. If you are fine with a manual, the Toyota Innova Crysta 7-seat diesel remains a great long-term workhorse and is very reliable too. However, it's not as comfortable or well equipped as the Tata Safari. As for EVs, your two MPV options are the Vinfast VF MP7 and the BYD eMax7. However, due to their long wheelbases, slightly lower ground clearances and underbody battery packs, we'd recommend sticking to an ICE MPV for your usage on rough roads and quarries. Additionally, their dealership and after-sales networks are still limited compared to Tata and Toyota.
Is the ride comfort of rear seat passengers of VF7 70.8 kWh 2WD better than that of 9e? Which of these two are better suited for 3 rear seat passengers? Which of these two have lesser software and hardware reliability issues? I am inclined towards the VF7 subject to clarity on the above 3 queries. Early adopters of VF7 have reported quite a few issues. Should I skip VF7 altogether or worth taking a plunge?
The Mahindra XEV 9e is the safer recommendation here. It is the more mature product with a proven track record, and Mahindra's service network and support are well established. The rear seat is genuinely wide and comfortable for three passengers, and the overall ownership experience is likely to be more predictable. The Vinfast VF7 is an interesting product, but as you have already noted, early adopters have reported a number of issues, and as a new entrant, Vinfast does not yet have the same level of service reach or long-term reliability data in India. Unless you are specifically drawn to the VF7's design or feature set, the XEV 9e is the more sensible choice.
Hi, I'm looking for a new second car, mainly for city use and occasional highway trips, maybe once a month. My top priorities are comfort, space, and a good driving experience. My average daily usage would be around 50 km, mainly for household work. I'm considering an EV for its silent and smooth drive. My shortlisted cars are:Tomahawk EV, VF7, XEV 9S, Sierra EV My budget is Rs. 25-30 lakh.
For a second car doing around 50km a day, mainly in the city, an EV makes a lot of sense, particularly if home charging is available. Among your shortlist, the Tomahawk EV is the best match for your priorities of comfort, space and ease of driving. It has a spacious cabin, light steering and excellent all-round visibility, making it surprisingly easy to manage in traffic despite its size. Its ride is also comfortable overall, although the suspension can be heard working over rough roads. The Tomahawk also has enough range for your occasional highway trips. In our first drive, it returned 4.85km/kWh on a fast highway run, which translates to around 336km of real-world range from its 69.2kWh battery. DC charging is supported at up to 90kW.The XEV 9S is the more sophisticated and performance-focused option, but it is also a more expensive proposition. The VF7 is worth considering if driving enjoyment is more important than outright cabin space.
