Hi team, I am planning to buy an EV SUV. The budget is around 30 lakh. My priority is reliability and service support. Shortlisted Harrier QWD, VF7 AWD, and XEV 9e. Please suggest. Any chance Mahindra launching AWD variant soon? Thanks in advance.

For your requirement, we would pick the Mahindra XEV 9e. It feels the most complete package here, with a large battery, strong real-world range and a cabin experience that genuinely feels special and premium. It also benefits from Mahindra’s much stronger sales and service footprint compared to a new entrant like VinFast.

The Tata Harrier EV QWD is undeniably quick and impressive, but its range is meaningfully lower than the XEV 9e, which makes the Mahindra the easier long-term ownership proposition if range matters to you. Tata’s service reach is strong, but consistency can still vary depending on your city and dealership.

The VF7 AWD is the wildcard. It is quick, fun and interesting, but VinFast’s sales and service network in India is still very limited compared to Mahindra and Tata, which makes it a harder recommendation when reliability and support are explicitly your top priorities.

Hi, I need your advice. I drive around 1,000-1,500 km per month in Brahmavar/Mangalore, with 70% city use and 30% highway driving. We are a family of three, and I also travel with a large dog in the boot area. I plan to keep the car for 5-7 years. My budget is Rs. 15-20 lakh. With 70% city use in Brahmavar/Mangalore, 1,000-1,500 km a month, and a family of three plus a large dog, the Kia Seltos diesel automatic fits best. Diesel makes sense for your running. Your 30% highway mix each month helps keep the DPF system healthy, so city use should not be a worry. If most daily trips are very short stop-start runs, petrol is simpler, but your usage suits diesel better.For reliability and ease in the city, the Seltos is the most proven and the easiest to steer and park. The trade-off is space: the boot will take a big dog, but dog plus large suitcases may be tight. If you often carry the dog and lots of bags together, the Tata Harrier diesel automatic is roomier, but it will cost more to run.Overall, the Seltos diesel is a good fit.

Since you own a Kia Sonet, a Tata Harrier turbo-petrol will feel like a proper upgrade as far as space, tough feel and road presence goes. The turbo-petrol engine is strong, but keep in mind that the Harrier is a heavy car, so it won't be very fuel-efficient. Also, the manual version's gearbox and clutch won't feel as smooth or effort-free as the Kia's. But if that isn't something that concerns you, go ahead with it.

The new Hyundai Venue is a genuinely well-rounded package. It is more spacious than before, the rear seat is now comfortable enough for two adults, the turbo petrol engine feels punchy, and overall, it is easy to live with. The only caveat is the DCT gearbox. It is smooth enough in normal use, but it is not as seamless in traffic as the 3XO’s torque converter automatic, which is where the Mahindra clearly has the advantage.The Mahindra XUV 3XO also has a wider and more spacious rear seat, making it a better five-seater if family use matters. The downside is boot space, which is among the smallest in the segment, so if luggage carrying matters, that is worth keeping in mind.The new Tata Punch is a solid improvement over the older car, but compared to the others here, it does not feel as premium, as powerful or as sophisticated, which is reflected in its lower price positioning. The Nexon is still a competent option, but against the fresher 3XO and Venue, it now feels a little dated.

The turbo petrol engine feels punchy without being intimidating, the torque converter automatic is smooth and fuss free, and the size is just right for a first time buyer.If you want to spend less and prioritise maximum ease of use, the Hyundai i20 IVT is another excellent first car. It is easier to drive than most SUVs, the IVT automatic is extremely smooth in traffic, and ownership is straightforward. You give up the higher seating position of an SUV, but for urban use, it is arguably an even easier first car.

From a pure product perspective, Audi’s cars like the A4, Q3 and the Q7 remain genuinely strong. Cabin quality is excellent, refinement is top-notch, quattro-equipped models are hugely capable, and the overall ownership experience can be perfectly satisfying. Where Mercedes and BMW currently have the edge is brand momentum, product freshness and showroom pull. Mercedes has the broadest luxury portfolio, while BMW arguably has the more engaging cars to drive in several segments. Audi, by comparison, has felt quieter in recent years, with fewer headline launches and slightly less buzz.Audi India remains committed, and service support for existing owners is not a concern in the way people sometimes fear.

The fastest route is the old NH66 route via Karnala. However, if you want a more enjoyable drive with your Audi A4 with prettier scenery and generally better road surfaces, we would suggest taking the Pali Road via Imagica towards Wakan, where you can connect back onto NH66.Also, try to leave before 7 am so you can cross the Mangaon section before around 10 am, because this stretch can get heavily congested later in the morning.
