I live in Andhra Pradesh, and most of my driving is on quarry roads and double-lane roads. I drive nearly 5,000 km per month. Please suggest a 7-seater SUV, MPV, or EV with captain seats within a budget of ₹30-40 lakh.

Your usage and requirements point to a tough yet comfortable diesel SUV with lots of space. In that use, the Tata Safari 6-seat diesel automatic Accomplished X+ fits you best. It rides comfortably on broken surfaces, feels steady at highway speeds, and the captain seats in the middle row are wide and easy to get in and out of, which matters when you are in the car for hours every day. They're also widely adjustable and even ventilated, which is a bonus. The diesel with an automatic gearbox means less effort in slow stretches and relaxed cruising between towns, and diesel makes sense for your monthly distance.

Know the trade-offs. With all three rows up, boot space is tight, so plan for a roof carrier if you carry a lot of luggage, and Tata's aftersales and service network isn't quite as good as some other brands. If you are fine with a manual, the Toyota Innova Crysta 7-seat diesel remains a great long-term workhorse and is very reliable too. However, it's not as comfortable or well equipped as the Tata Safari.

As for EVs, your two MPV options are the Vinfast VF MP7 and the BYD eMax7. However, due to their long wheelbases, slightly lower ground clearances and underbody battery packs, we'd recommend sticking to an ICE MPV for your usage on rough roads and quarries. Additionally, their dealership and after-sales networks are still limited compared to Tata and Toyota.

Hi, I currently drive a Kia Sonet HTX iMT, which I purchased in December 2020. It has covered around 46,500km so far, with an annual running of approximately 10,000km. My current daily usage is 34km, mainly on the highway, as my office is in an industrial area. I am now looking to upgrade to a mid-size SUV with an automatic transmission. My priorities are a feature-rich car with a 5-star safety rating, good mileage, and enough space for a family of four, with occasional seating for six people. My expected usage will be around 80% city and 20% highway driving in the future. My budget is around Rs 21 lakh, although I can stretch it slightly for a better overall package. Please suggest some suitable options.

Given your requirements, the best option is the Hyundai Alcazar petrol DCT. It's available as a six- or seven-seater, giving you the flexibility you need when your extended family joins you on your journeys, and its 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine is relatively fuel efficient for a car of its size. The dual-clutch automatic is smooth enough, though it can be a bit clunky at low speeds if not driven smoothly and carefully. Also worth noting is that even the base model petrol-AT Alcazar costs around Rs 21 lakh on road, and the Alcazar has not been tested by any NCAP authority.The next best option is not an SUV but arguably a more practical option - the Kia Carens Clavis. It uses the same engine and gearbox in a lighter package with more space on the inside. Other 7-seat SUV options with more space - like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio-N and MG Hector Plus are available, but are nowhere near as fuel-efficient and will be out of your budget as well. All things considered, the Hyundai Alcazar is your best option.

I am looking to buy a new EV for my daily office commute, which is roughly 100 km round-trip. My current ride is a Toyota Innova Crysta. While it is a reliable workhorse, I find it increasingly tiring for daily use. The constant body roll, low-speed bounciness, and typical ladder-frame wobble over uneven roads are wearing me down. I want to switch to a smooth, refined electric SUV. My usage will be a mix of self-driving and being chauffeur-driven. My absolute top priorities are: Ride Comfort & Stability: I need a car that glides over bad roads, handles speed bumps cleanly, and minimises vertical movement/head-toss. I want to avoid the wobbliness of the Crysta at all costs. Cabin Space: Generous legroom, good under-thigh support, and a spacious cabin environment are highly important. I am currently considering four upcoming/recently launched options, but I am torn between them: Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra XEV 9s, Tata Sierra EV, Tata Harrier EV. Given my 100 km daily run, battery efficiency is a factor, but comfort overrides everything else. Which of these four will offer the most stable, plush, and fatigue-free ride for someone moving away from an Innova Crysta? I do not intend to sell the Innova Crysta, as I want to keep it for the airport and family runs for long distance.

For your 100 km daily commute, with comfort and stability as the absolute priorities, the Tata Sierra EV is the top recommendation. This Tata car is built on Tata's Gen 2 EV architecture, which is a dedicated electric platform with a flat floor and a long wheelbase. This gives it a very stable, planted feel on the road, and the suspension is tuned for comfort, with a soft, absorbent ride that deals with bad roads, speed bumps and undulations far better than a ladder-frame vehicle like the Crysta. The Sierra EV also has a spacious cabin with generous legroom, good under-thigh support and a wide, airy feel, making it a genuinely comfortable place to spend long hours, whether you are driving or being driven. Also, its 75 kWh battery pack gives it a strong range, so you don't have to worry about recharging even on long trips. The Mahindra XEV 9e and 9s are both strong products, but they are not quite as plush or as settled. The Harrier EV has a redesigned floor pan, but it still doesn't feel as spacious or airy inside as the Sierra. The Sierra also has a larger boot compared to the Harrier. Given that you are keeping the Crysta for airport runs and long-distance family trips, the Sierra EV is the best fit for your daily commute. It is the most comfortable, the most stable and the most fatigue-free option of the four.

I read that Hyundai launched lounge edition for creta and alcazar. Just wanted to know, whether this is just an cosmetic upgrade or something has changed functionally too?

I have a Tata Nexon Creative AMT that is only a year old, but I have already had to replace the spark plugs four times and the ignition coil once. I am still facing engine misfires and vibrations inside the car. I am honestly fed up with Tata's service, as they have been unable to resolve the issue. I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. Please suggest which one would be the best choice for my requirements.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT. Your priorities are a smooth automatic, good fuel efficiency and a daily 30km commute in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Brezza’s 6-speed torque converter automatic is the best fit for this usage. It is smooth, reliable and well suited to stop-start conditions, and the naturally aspirated petrol engine is efficient and easy to live with. Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs add to the ownership peace of mind.The Sonet and Venue DCTs are good cars, but the DCT gearbox is not ideal for heavy traffic. It can feel jerky at low speeds.Alternatively, if you can arrange for home charging, the Tata Punch EV is an excellent option.

Considering your budget and usage pattern, the Skoda Kushaq Signature 1.0 MT is the best fit. It is one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs in this price range, with a strong turbo petrol engine and a well-sorted chassis that gives you confidence on winding hill roads and highways. The Skoda Kushaq also offers good ride comfort, a solid build and a premium feel inside the cabin. You'll just have to be content with missing some features compared to the top-spec Kushaq Monte Carlo.If you want a more feature-rich and value-focused option, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 Luxury petrol is also worth considering.
