The Nissan Magnite is an attractive and aggressively priced compact SUV, costing between Rs 5.49-10.38 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Nissan offers its Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue rival with three engine and gearbox options and five trims – XE, XL, XV, XV Premium and XV Premium (O) – along with dual-tone colour options and an optional Technology pack for the top three trims. Nissan Magnite: Turbo-petrol offers brisk performance
Of the two petrol engine options – a 72hp, 1.0-litre naturally aspirated unit and a 100hp, 1.0-litre turbocharged one – it’s the more powerful unit that’s far more likable and that also gets a smooth automatic option. While the CVT automatic-equipped variants cost Rs 90,000 more than their manual counterparts, it is worth the price for the convenience it brings to the package.
Nissan Magnite XE: Decently equipped
The entry point to the Magnite range is the XE (Rs 5.49 lakh). It’s only available with the 72hp petrol engine and comes with dual front airbags, ABS and EBD, rear parking sensors, 16-inch wheels with wheel covers, halogen headlights, roof rails, fabric seats, power windows, a 3.5-inch LCD MID display, a manual AC and a 12V charging socket in the front. Although it has the bare necessities and tempting price tag, the Magnite XE is a bit basic feature-wise.
Nissan Magnite XL: Unmatched value
The mid-spec XL (Rs 5.99-8.19 lakh) is the best value proposition of the range and is available with all three engine and gearbox options. In addition to the features on the XE, the 72hp XL gets central locking, dual-tone wheel covers, body-coloured and powered ORVMs with indicators, four speakers and two tweeters, a Bluetooth-enabled audio system, steering-mounted controls and automatic climate control. The 100hp XL (Rs 7.29 lakh) adds safety kit such as ISOFIX anchors, traction control, hill-start assist and brake assist, along with creature comforts like front and rear armrests and split/folding rear seats. The XL CVT (Rs 8.19 lakh) adds keyless entry and go and a smart key.
Nissan Magnite XV: Is it worth the extra Rs 83,000?
With features such as LED fog lamps and DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear camera, driver’s seat height adjust, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 7.0-inch configurable digital instrument cluster, the XV variant (Rs 6.82-9.02 lakh) comes across as more stylish and tech-heavy. While still good value, it only makes sense if you’re willing to pay extra for a few features.
Nissan Magnite XV Premium: Segment-first feature debuts
The XV Premium (Rs 7.69-9.79 lakh) gets a segment-first 360-degree camera, along with kit such as LED bi-projector headlights with what Nissan likes to call ‘lightsabre style’ LED turn indicators, leather accents for the fabric seat upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering and a tyre pressure monitoring system. For the Rs 87,000 premium over the XV, the XV Premium comes across as a bit on the expensive side.
Nissan Magnite XV Premium (O): Turbo-only
For just Rs 10,000 more than the XV Premium, the (O) suffix adds connected car tech such as vehicle tracking, geofence and speed alerts, vehicle status, vehicle health info and automated roadside assistance. However, the XV Premium (O) (Rs 8.99-9.89 lakh) is only available with the 100hp turbo-petrol engine.
Nissan Magnite Technology pack: Tech savvy
As mentioned earlier, the Technology pack is only available on the top three variants. For Rs 34,999, Nissan will add LED scuff plates, ambient mood lighting, puddle lamps, a wireless smartphone charger, an air purifier and a JBL speaker system.
Also do note that dual-tone colour options are available with the XV, XV Premium and XV Premium (O) variants for a Rs 14,000 premium.
Nissan Magnite: Which variant is our pick?
On a tight budget, the 100hp Magnite XL CVT (Rs 8.19 lakh) is the best value-for-money pick. You get all the necessary features at an extremely aggressive price tag.
The XV Premium (O) with the optional Tech pack (Rs 10.24-10.38 lakh) makes the most sense for those looking for all the bells and whistles, as it is also excellent value when viewed in light of its competition.
