BMW is set to bring the M440i xDrive Convertible to the Indian market next year, as per sources. With the Z4 on its way out globally with no immediate successor planned, the M440i Convertible will enter the scene in 2026 and cater to prospective BMW drop-top buyers in India.

Based on 2024 4 Series Coupe; fabric roof can be operated at up to 50kph
The M440i Convertible is expectedly based on the BMW 4 Series Coupe and therefore features identical styling elements, save for a folding fabric roof that takes 18 seconds to open or close at speeds of up to 50kph. Up front, the M440i Convertible gets slim LED headlights with diagonal DRL signatures flanking large kidney grilles, along with sizable air intakes on either side of the bumper.

19-inch alloy wheels, M badging on the fenders and a wind deflector aft of the front seats characterise the M440i Convertible’s side profile, while at the rear, the drop-top prominently features sleek LED tail-lamps, an integrated bootlid spoiler and a muscular rear diffuser.

14.9-inch curved touchscreen dominates dashboard
Inside, the M440i Convertible can seat up to 4 occupants and sports a neat and uncluttered dashboard layout. A 14.9-inch curved infotainment touchscreen takes centre stage, with a digital driver’s display and three-spoke flat-bottomed M-spec steering wheel to the right.

The M440i Convertible also packs in features like a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a wireless charging pad, heads-up display, tyre pressure monitoring system, powered sports seats with memory function, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and more.

Same 3.0-litre straight-six as M340i

Under the hood, the M440i Convertible comes equipped with the same ‘B58’ 3.0-litre turbo straight-six as the BMW M340i sedan, outputting 374hp and 500Nm. This powerplant is hooked up to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that funnels power to all four wheels, enabling the M440i Convertible to dispatch the 0-100kph run in a claimed 4.9 seconds, onwards to an electronically limited top speed of 250kph.

BMW plans to launch the M440i Convertible in India by mid-2026, with pricing expected to land in the Rs 1.1 crore ballpark. To that end, the M440i Convertible will directly rival the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet, which is priced at Rs 1.12 crore.
