Recently I am reviewing cars to buy, I often travel highways, and my daily routine to office use about 50 km, Kushaq 1.0 & 1.5 and Slavia 1.0 & 1.5 or should I go electric, as Petrol issues rises with cars in India. Please advise.

I am selling my Ford Figo diesel and planning to buy a new car. I drive around 400-500km in the city every month and do an occasional 1,200km highway trip once every three months. Should I buy the new Kushaq 1.5 or the Slavia 1.5? Are there any other recommendations?

Both are good choices, but if you don't often carry tall items in the boot, the Skoda Slavia is the better fit for your needs. Your quarterly 1200 km highway runs will feel easier in the sedan - it is more stable at speed, quieter, and its big boot still swallows a lot of luggage. With your 400-500 km a month in the city, the 1.5 TSI’s strong mid-range and light controls keep it easy, and the sedan’s lower shape gives slightly better mileage than the Kushaq on the open road. The downside is that you sit lower. The Kushaq’s extra height gives you a better view out, and it is easier to get in and out of. Ground clearance is slightly better, too, but the Slavia isn't exactly lacking. If you want the same mechanics with Volkswagen flavour, look at the Virtus 1.5 or the Taigun1.5.It's worth noting that the Slavia and Virtus are due for a facelift, which will arrive sometime this year. It will bring a revised front and rear design and a few new features, similar to what the Kushaq/Taigun got recently. If that doesn't matter to you, there may be better deals to be had on the current Slavia.

I am buying my first car. While I do not have a fixed budget, I understand that every vehicle comes with certain trade-offs. My primary usage will be city commuting, along with occasional road trips every two months. I have never driven a German car before, and the last car I drove was a Tata Indica eV2. I am looking for a car that offers excellent comfort in Delhi-NCR weather conditions, including ventilated seats and an air-conditioning system that cools the cabin effectively. I would also like a car that provides an engaging driving experience so that I do not get bored of driving it over time. I plan to pass the car on to my father in the future if I no longer need it, so I am specifically looking for an automatic. Safety is, of course, a priority as well. I am currently confused between the Skoda Kylaq, Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Kia Syros, Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Sierra, Toyota Hyryder, and a few other options in the market. Which one would be the most suitable choice for my requirements?

Pick the Skoda Kushaq 1.0 automatic. It suits Delhi city life the best while keeping you cool and fresh, and it still makes those every-two-month highway runs easy. The Skoda Kushaq mileage ranges from 18.72 kpl to 19.66 kpl, depending on the chosen powertrain option. In your traffic, the 1.0 with the automatic is smooth and stress-free, has light steering, good visibility, and a suspension that takes broken roads well. On hot days, the AC now cools quickly, and the higher trims give you ventilated seats that actually help in NCR summers. It is also one of the safest in your list with a strong body and the full safety kit, so handing it to your father later will feel right. It is compact enough for tight parking, yet feels stable and confident at high speeds, so it's safe and you will not get bored or tired.A couple of the others come close. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid is super efficient and very easy in the city, but feels less lively on the highway.

I am looking to buy an automatic petrol car within a budget of ₹18 lakh. My requirements are: 5-star safety, comfort for family use, mostly city driving, and occasional trips outside the city. I have explored the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, and Tata Nexon, but I do not want to go with Tata as I already own a Tiago. I am open to options from Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia, provided they meet my safety requirements. Please advise.

On a Rs 18 lakh budget, for your requirements, the Hyundai Verna HX6+ IVT automatic is a good pick because it meets your 5-star safety needs and feels the most relaxed in traffic. The IVT, a CVT by another name, is a type of automatic that does not shift in steps, so it feels very smooth at low speeds, which makes stop-and-go driving easy. The back seat is roomy, the ride is comfortable over rough patches, and Hyundai’s wide service network adds peace of mind on those occasional trips out of town. The latest Verna has a 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating in India, so you are not compromising on your main ask. You could stretch to the HX8 variant if you want more features and your budget is flexible. Two things to keep in mind with the Verna: it sits lower than a taller car like the Skoda Kushaq, so you need a bit more care on big speed breakers, and the rear seat is set a little low, so elderly family members who prefer a higher seat may not love it. If you want a higher seating position and more ground clearance without giving up 5-star safety, go for the Kia Seltos HTK(O) Petrol CVT, which recently got a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Though you might sacrifice some features in this variant on your budget.
