Skoda Kylaq sales vs rivals

The staggering demand for rugged yet compact utility vehicles in India is reflected in the focus that OEMs have placed on this segment. The sub-4-metre segment is highly competitive, featuring 21 models from 11 different OEMs, including the Tata Punch, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and more.

The Kia Syros is the Kylaq's closest competitor in terms of sales, with 25,513 wholesale units sold during the same January-August period. Combined, the Kylaq and Syros account for 6% of the segment's total wholesale figures.

The overall wholesale volume for the segment is an estimated 8,92,057 units. Moreover, compact SUVs represent nearly half (48%) of all utility vehicle sales in the first eight months of this year, while the remaining 52% is split between midsize SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs).

What it offers

The Kylaq ex-showroom prices start at Rs 7.53 lakh, and it is available in seven variants. All variants are equipped with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

This sub-4-metre SUV was a fan favourite even before it received a price cut from the recent GST 2.0 implementation. Clearly, price is not the only reason for the Kylaq’s popularity; its appeal also lies in its city and highway drivability, a comfortable and feature-packed cabin, a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, and sharp design details.
