One of the most highly anticipated motorcycle launches of 2025 is the upcoming BMW F 450 GS adventure bike, which is going to be manufactured in India by TVS. Now, ahead of its imminent launch, some details have leaked, confirming that the F 450 GS will be offered with some sort of semiautomatic transmission.

  1. BMW F 450 GS will likely use a semiautomatic gearbox
  2. Riding modes and quickshifter to be included as well
  3. Expected to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 5 lakh

BMW F 450 GS to come with semiautomatic gearbox

R 1300 GS and GSA come with BMW’s Automated Shift Assistant

With the F 450 GS, BMW will be aiming to fill a gap in its line-up left by the erstwhile G 310 GS. The F 450 GS will soon become the entry point into BMW’s revered GS brand, and the company wants to ensure it offers similar options to the F 450 customer as it does to the R 1300 GS buyer.

Last year, BMW debuted its own version of a semiautomatic gearbox, called the Automated Shift Assistant, which is now available on the big R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure. Essentially, this system can handle gear shifts for the rider in its automatic ‘D’ mode, or the rider can take manual control in ‘M’ mode via a conventional gear lever. If the bike is in ‘M’ mode and there is a chance of stalling, the system will automatically downshift to prevent that from happening.

The BMW F 450 GS is touted to be offered with a similar system upon its launch, although keeping its more accessible positioning in mind, it will likely be a simpler (read cost-effective) version of the company’s ASA.

Other features that will be present on the F 450 GS include riding modes (therefore, an electronic throttle) and the option of a quickshifter (likely a bidirectional unit, given the presence of ride-by-wire), and the bike will roll on 19/17-inch wheels (F/R) just like the full-fat R 1300 GS. In previous spy shots, the F 450 GS has been spotted with alloy wheels, and it’s quite likely that it will come with wire-spoke wheels, too, at the very least as an option or as standard fitment on one of its variants.

BMW F 450 GS launch and expected price

The launch of the BMW F 450 GS draws near now, and we expect it to be priced around Rs 5 lakh. Competition to the BMW F 450 GS will come from both twin-cylinder and single-cylinder rivals. Bikes like the Honda NX500 (Rs 5.90 lakh), Kawasaki Versys-X 300 (Rs 3.80 lakh), upcoming CFMoto 450 MT, KTM 390 Adventure, (Rs 3.68 lakh), and Royal Enfield Himalayan (Rs 2.85 lakh to Rs 2.98 lakh) will all pose a challenge to the F 450 GS.
