Mercedes’ George Russell converted pole position into a dominant win at the Singapore GP. Max Verstappen finished ahead of both the McLaren drivers. But P3 for Lando Norris and P4 for Oscar Piastri were enough for McLaren to seal the 2025 F1 Constructors’ Championship with six rounds to go, equalling Red Bull Racing’s 2023 record.
- Russell wins Singapore GP, 5.430 sec ahead of Verstappen
- Norris chips away at Piastri’s title lead
- Hamilton handed a post-race penalty
Russell wins Singapore GP
Verstappen fends off Norris for P2

Norris added, “I need to look at things and see if there was something I could have done better. The last thing I want is to make contact with my teammate.”
All of this allowed Russell to pull away at the front and take a comfortable win with a margin of 5.430 seconds. Red Bull opted for the alternate strategy for Verstappen, with the reigning world champion starting on softs and pitting early. As a result, he had to spend a good chunk of the race defending from Norris. Verstappen did so successfully and finished second, while Norris had to settle for third place. Crucially, though, Norris finished ahead of Piastri and further chipped away at his lead.
Kimi Antonelli finished P5, handing Mercedes some more valuable points. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in P6 and P7, respectively. However, Hamilton was later handed a 5-second time penalty for “leaving the track without justifiable reason multiple times”.
This dropped Hamilton to P8, promoting Fernando Alonso to P7 instead. Oliver Bearman finished P9 for Haas, while Carlos Sainz recovered from Williams’ qualifying disqualification to finish P10.
McLaren wraps up constructors’ championship
McLaren 325 points clear of second-placed Mercedes

McLaren needed to score just 13 points in Singapore to clinch the constructors’ title. Norris and Piastri’s opening lap crash gave the team a brief scare, but the duo held on to P3 and P4. This puts McLaren a whopping 325 points clear of second-placed Mercedes in the standings – enough for the team to seal the title with six rounds still to go.
With this, McLaren has won back-to-back constructors’ titles for the first time since 1991.
2025 F1 championship standings
Piastri still holds on to the championship lead, but his advantage over Norris has been slashed to 22 points – that’s less than one race win. Verstappen is third overall, 41 points behind Norris and 63 points behind Piastri.
F1 will now head to the Circuit of the Americas for the US GP on October 17-20.
