Trending Questions on Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am planning to buy a car with a factory-fitted CNG kit, an automatic transmission, and cruise control within a budget of Rs 15 lakh. Please suggest some options.
There are quite a few options that would meet your requirements, so its hard to pinpoint a specific model without knowing a bit more about your requirements and driving conditions. If you are looking for a city car then pick the Tata Punch, the compact dimensions are easy to manage in tight city traffic and the elevated driving position gives you a decent view outside. If however you want something bigger and with more space then the Maruti Suzuki Dzire would be a good option as you will have more rear space as well as a larger boot. Both cars will fit well within your budget. If you want a larger CNG car then you will have to settle for a manual and the a model like the Kia Carens Clavis or the Maruti Victoris.
My budget is Rs 8-9 lakh. I need an AMT SUV to be driven by a lady, mainly for daily Chennai city commuting of about 80 km. My focus is currently on the Hyundai Exter AMT. Are there any better suggestions, or should we go for a CNG AMT by Tata?
Considering your daily running of around 80km, we would actually suggest opting for a CNG car to keep running costs down. The Hyundai Exter CNG is a good option, but it is available only with a manual gearbox. This is where the Tata Punch CNG AMT makes a lot of sense, as it combines lower running costs with the convenience of an automatic, which should reduce the stress of driving in Chennai traffic. This car also feels solidly built, has a comfortable ride and offers adequate performance. If you are open to a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG AMT is another option within a similar budget. This Maruti Suzuki car offers more cabin space and the convenience of a CNG automatic, although you will have to compromise on the SUV stance and the Punch's higher seating position.
I am planning to buy a car this year around Diwali or year-end 2026. I am looking for a spacious, comfortable and a safe 5-seater for my family. My budget is Rs. 8-15 lakh (on-road) under Rs. 12 lakh. Although, I am open to spending less if the car offers excellent mileage, safety, space and reliability. My expected running is 7,000-8,000 km per month primarily for daily commutes mixed with GT roads and city driving. I intend to keep the car for at least 10-12 years, so fuel efficiency, low maintenance, long-term reliability, comfortable seating and good after-sales service are my priorities. I don't need fancy features that I will rarely use; essential safety and convenience features are sufficient. Considering my high monthly running, which fuel type among petrol, diesel or CNG, would be the most economical and practical over 10-12 years? Please recommend the best cars and specific variants within my budget while comparing real-world mileage, running costs, maintenance, reliability and family comfort. For CNG, specifically assess factory-fitted underbody tanks. Which car, engine and fuel option would you suggest for my usage? Suggest for both CNG and petrol.
With 7,000-8,000 km per month, your running is exceptionally high, and that fundamentally changes the recommendation. At this level, fuel efficiency and running costs become the dominant factor, and the car needs to be robust enough for long-term ownership over 10-12 years.Diesel is the most practical and economical choice for your usage. Modern diesel engines are efficient, reliable and well-suited to high-mileage highway driving, and the fuel cost advantage over petrol is significant at your running. CNG is not recommended at this level of usage. Even with factory-fitted underbody tanks, the limited range and refuelling inconvenience make it impractical for such high monthly running. You could end up spending a lot of time waiting in queues at CNG stations.Within your budget, the Tata Altroz is the most value for money diesel car on sale. It is a spacious, comfortable and safe 5-seater with a strong and efficient diesel engine, and good highway manners. There are multiple variants priced below Rs 12 lakh on-road, so you can take your pick, based on the features you need. Expect real-world mileage to be around 16-20kpl.If you want a diesel-automatic option, given your high running, we'd strongly recommend the Kia Sonet HTE O variant (priced at Rs 12 lakh on-road). Its diesel engine is refined, efficient, and the 6-speed torque converter automatic makes the drive experience smooth and effort-free. Real-world efficiency is likely to range between 14-19kpl. The engine-gearbox combination is tried and tested, and you can expect a fuss-free ownership experience with this one.
Hello Autocar Team, I need your unbiased expert opinion before buying a new car. I am confused between Tata Altroz Pure CNG AMT quoted for Rs. 9.41 lakh (on-road price) and Tata Altroz Creative CNG Manual of which I am waiting for the final quotation. My budget is Rs. 10.5 lakh. I have been driving manual cars for the last 10 years, and my running is mostly in the Mumbai city traffic and production-location travel. I want a CNG car with good features, safety, comfort and long-term value for money. I am considering spending around Rs. 50,000 extra on the automatic gearbox versus choosing the Creative manual for its additional factory-fitted features. Which variant would you recommend for my usage, and why? I would really appreciate your honest advice before finalising the purchase. Thank you.
Go for the Pure CNG AMT. In Mumbai traffic the automatic is the upgrade you’ll appreciate every single day, whereas extra features soon fade into the background. After 10 years of working a clutch in stop-go traffic, you’ll notice the difference within a week. On paper the Creative manual and the Pure AMT cost about the same, so you’re really choosing between convenience and kit, and for your driving convenience wins. There are two things to know before you go ahead. First, an AMT isn’t as smooth as a proper automatic. It pauses slightly between gears, so we would suggest you to take a test drive of Altroz AMT in traffic before you book. Second, the Pure misses out on rear AC vents, which the Creative gets. If you often carry people in the back in Mumbai’s heat, that’s worth weighing up.Both share the same 5-star Bharat NCAP-rated body and the twin-cylinder CNG setup, so you still get a usable boot. On long trips, expect the CNG to feel a bit strained at expressway speeds. That’s the same whichever variant you buy.
Hi, I am currently driving Maruti Suzuki Dzire VXI petrol for daily running of 70 km. I am planning to upgrade to a hybrid/CNG/EV with decent features. What are the options under Rs. 15 Lakh?
With a daily running of 70km, you are clocking over 25,000km a year, so fuel efficiency and running costs become very important. Since you are coming from a Dzire VXI, reliability and low maintenance are likely priorities as well.CNG is the most cost-effective option for your usage, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG is the most sensible upgrade. It is a practical, reliable SUV with a factory-fitted CNG kit, good service reach and low running costs. The Brezza CNG also offers a decent feature set and a comfortable ride, making it a very easy car to live with.If you are open to EVs and have access to home charging, the Tata Nexon EV is worth considering. It will offer the lowest running costs and a more premium cabin, but only if your daily route is predictable and you can charge at home. Otherwise, CNG remains the more practical choice.Hybrids like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid or Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid are excellent for your use case, but they won't fall under your budget of Rs 15 lakh.Overall, the Brezza CNG is the most sensible upgrade for your usage and budget.
