The exterior design of the new Volkswagen T-Roc has been leaked ahead of its global debut. The second-gen T-Roc, as seen in the leaked picture, retains the basic shape of the first-gen SUV but adds a lot of design cues from the new Tiguan and other VW models.

  • The new T-Roc gets fresh yet familiar styling
  • It will sit on the MQB Evo platform, similar to the latest Golf
  • It is expected to come with multiple powertrain options.

T-Roc to debut globally later this year

The second-generation T-Roc plays an important role in Volkswagen's global SUV line-up. Positioned between the T-Cross and the Tiguan overseas, it takes on the likes of the popular Toyota C-HR and the Hyundai Kona SUVs. Last year, it was the second-bestselling Volkswagen model globally.

As for design details, the new T-Roc gets a huge grille below the headlamps, with hexagon-shaped cutouts extending to the lower bumper. The central part of the grille is blacked out, while the bits on each corner get body colour. The headlights are slimmer and more stylish than those on the India-bound Tayron and are connected by a slim LED light bar with the VW logo in the centre. The T-Roc also gets slightly longer front and rear overhangs, along with a prominent crease running from the front fender, seamlessly merging with the doors and remerging at the rear fender, extending to the rear. The new T-Roc retains a larger C-pillar similar to the outgoing model, but it now looks even more tapered, nearly merging with the sloping roofline. At the rear, the profile looks similar to the outgoing model but with new tail-lights connected by a light bar and a much simpler-looking rear bumper.

Next-gen Volkswagen T-Roc design leaked

There is no clarity yet on the powertrains available for the new T-Roc. However, one can expect multiple turbo petrol options and possibly a diesel powertrain, depending on the market. Like its predecessor, the new T-Roc’s powertrain line-up could mimic that of the latest-gen Golf hatchback, which offers a variety of options.

New T-Roc's India launch details

The first gen T-Roc was sold in India in limited numbers as a CBU. There is no news on the second-gen SUV coming to India. However, Volkswagen is readying an all-new compact SUV based on the Skoda Kylaq for our market. Additionally, the brand will also launch the three-row Tayron SUV in India.
