Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta is a five-seat midsize SUV with a 433-litre boot, offered in 27 variants ranging from the Petrol E MT to the Diesel King Knight AT. It gets three 1.5-litre engine options: a 115hp naturally aspirated petrol, a 116hp diesel and a 160hp turbo-petrol, paired with a six-speed manual, CVT, 6-speed torque-converter automatic or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, depending on the engine.
The Hyundai introduced the sportier Creta N Line, powered by a turbo-petrol engine, adding a more performance-oriented option to the range. In terms of features, it includes dual 10.25-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and Level 2 ADAS on select variants, making the Creta a well-equipped choice for families looking for a comfortable SUV for everyday driving and highway trips.

What we liked
- Feature-Packed Interior: Equipped with twin 10.25-inch screens, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, and connected car tech.
- Cabin Comfort & Space: Generous rear legroom and width for three adults, complemented by rear sunshades and USB-C ports.
- Modern Ambience: The wraparound dashboard with twin displays, light dual-tone materials, and large glasshouse creates a bright, airy feel.
- City-Friendly & Composed Ride: Absorbs ruts and expansion joints effortlessly, paired with light steering and manageable dimensions for urban ease.
- Refined Powertrains: The 116hp diesel runs smoothly and quietly on highways, while the 160hp turbo-petrol is eager for daily use. The 7-speed DCT complements the petrol engine with smooth shifts, drive/terrain modes, and adaptive cruise control.
- Safety Equipment: Standard safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, and ISOFIX mounts, with top trims adding Level 2 ADAS.
- Strong Value: Wide engine-gearbox choices and family comfort justify its top sales, earning a 9/10 value rating from Autocar India.
What We Did Not Like
- Mixed Material Quality: Some hard interior plastics and fit/finish details fall short of segment-best standards.
- Ergonomic Misses: The middle rear seat lacks an adjustable headrest, and taller drivers may find the screens positioned slightly low.
- Oriented for Comfort, Not Sport: Suspension setup favors urban comfort over sharp cornering; power delivery across engines is linear rather than thrilling.
- Real-World Fuel Economy: Rated lowest at 7/10 in the review; while the diesel is frugal (21.8 kpl claimed), petrol variants give average real-world efficiency.
- N Line Dynamics: Body roll remains noticeable under hard cornering, and it carries a price premium over standard trims.
Who should buy the Creta?
As per our reviews, the Creta is best suited to buyers who want a roomy, well-equipped family SUV with a wide choice of engines for city and highway use.
Buyer type | Why it fits |
|---|---|
Want a roomy family SUV | Good rear legroom, width for three adults, a 433-litre boot and light steering in a manageable 4.3m body. |
Want plenty of features | Higher variants offer twin 10.25-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, Bose audio and Level 2 ADAS. |
Do frequent highway driving | The diesel offers 250Nm of torque and an ARAI-rated 21.8kpl with the manual (19.1kpl with the automatic). |
Drive mostly in the city | The 1.5-litre petrol with the CVT is the combination Autocar India recommends for most buyers, and it returned 13.11kpl in our tests. |
Want a powerful petrol automatic | The 160hp turbo-petrol with the 7-speed DCT offers strong performance, and the N Line adds a manual option. |
The buyer the Creta suits least is the one who wants the newest features at the lowest price, because the top variants are expensive and rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra and Renault Duster are newer. Buyers who expect class-best cabin plastics or a headrest for the rear middle seat may also be disappointed.

8.0
The 2024 Hyundai Creta facelift keeps the popular SUV’s familiar shape but refreshes its presence with a more squared-out and modern face. Up front there’s a bigger grille with parametric detailing and a split lighting layout where LED daytime running lights sit above the primary quad LED headlamps. The rear gets angular full LED tail lamps joined by a full-width light bar and a re-profiled bumper that gives the Creta a distinctive new identity while staying recognisable.
The Creta N Line adds a sportier spin on this core design with an aggressive bumper, red detailing along the skirts and bumpers, 18-inch wheels, roof-mounted spoiler and twin faux exhaust tips. The N Line’s lower-set grille and blacked-out theme clearly differentiate it from the standard Creta.
Underneath, the Creta’s chassis and suspension layout remain unchanged. It is engineered more for comfort and urban composure than sharp dynamics. The N Line benefits from subtle steering and damping tweaks to add confidence, but it does not fundamentally change the SUV’s mechanical character.
9.0
Hyundai has overhauled the Creta’s cabin with a wraparound dashboard that integrates twin 10.25-inch displays for the touchscreen and digital driver’s cluster. This layout emphasises a modern and premium look, though taller drivers might find the screens sit a bit low. Light dual-tone materials and ample glasshouse space add to a bright, roomy feel.
Rear seats remain generous for a midsize SUV, with good legroom and adequate width for three adults. The absence of a headrest for the middle occupant remains a sore point, but features like sunshades and additional USB-C ports add practicality. Boot space is a competitive 433 litres and the rear seats fold in a 60:40 split for extra cargo flexibility.
In the N Line, the interior adopts an all-black theme with red stitching and N Line logos on the seats, steering wheel and gear lever. The ambience feels sportier and more engaging, though the base layout and cabin ergonomics are the same as the standard Creta. Fit and finish in places fall slightly short of class-best execution.
8.0
The facelifted Creta offers three engines. A likable 115 hp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 116 hp 1.5-litre diesel continue, with the latter providing smooth and quiet performance on highways.
A new 160 hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol replaces the older 1.4 turbo. It pulls well through the rev range and feels eager for daily driving, aided by crisp refinement.
In the Creta N Line, the same 160 hp turbo unit is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT). The manual offers satisfying gear shifts that suit enthusiastic driving, but the DCT feels the better-matched option overall thanks to smooth responses, drive and traction modes and adaptive cruise control.
Both versions avoid outright performance heroics, choosing a linear and refined delivery that suits family use and highway cruising more than sporty excitement.
7.0
Fuel efficiency for the facelifted Creta varies by engine and gearbox. The diesel remains the most frugal with official figures around 21.8 kmpl, while the turbo-petrol and naturally aspirated petrol deliver respectable real-world economy for an SUV of this size.
The Creta N Line is claimed to return around 18 kmpl with the DCT and marginally less with the manual, figures that are decent considering the sportier focus and larger wheels.
8.0
Ride comfort remains a core strength. The Creta delivers a composed and planted ride over city ruts and highway expansion joints, absorbing most bumps with ease while maintaining body control. A light steering feel and manageable dimensions make it friendly in urban use.
The N Line’s sport-tuned setup introduces a hint of firmness and increased confidence at higher speeds, but it never compromises overall comfort. Steering feedback feels communicative, and the larger tyres provide adequate grip, though body roll is still noticeable when pushed hard.
9.0
The Creta remains richly equipped. Depending on variant, you get ventilated seats, wireless charging, dual-zone climate, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras and connected tech including live apps and music streaming.
Safety kit is comprehensive with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, tyre pressure monitor and ISOFIX mounts. Higher trims add advanced driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking, bringing Level 2 capabilities to the SUV.
The N Line shares this list and adds sport-themed touches like metal pedals, exclusive trim accents and custom ambient lighting.
9.0
The Creta continues to justify its strong sales with a broad powertrain lineup, abundant features and family-friendly comfort. The facelift sharpens its appeal with updated styling and next-gen tech while keeping competition like the Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq firmly in sight.
The Creta N Line sits at a premium over equivalent standard Creta variants but is priced competitively against sporty rivals. Its visual flair, engaging gearbox options and strong kit list make it an attractive choice for buyers seeking character and enhanced expressiveness without straying far from Creta’s core strengths.

Hyundai Creta Mileage
Hyundai Creta mileage ranges from 17.4kpl to 21.8kpl (ARAI-certified), and the engine matters more than the gearbox. The diesel is certified at 21.8kpl with the manual and 19.1kpl with the automatic, the 1.5-litre petrol at 17.4kpl with the manual and 17.7kpl with the CVT, and the turbo-petrol at 18kpl with the manual (N Line) and 18.4kpl with the DCT.
In Autocar India's tests, the petrol CVT returned 11.17kpl in the city and 15.05kpl on the highway, an average of 13.11kpl. The turbo-petrol DCT returned 11.62kpl in the city and 14.5kpl on the highway, an average of 13.06kpl. Owners report about 17.74kpl from the diesel manual, 16.72kpl from the diesel automatic, 15.7kpl from the petrol manual and 17.3kpl from the petrol CVT.
That makes the choice fairly clear for high-mileage buyers, because the diesel is the efficient engine, but real-world figures sit below the certified numbers. Autocar India's experts suggest expecting around 10-12kpl in the city and 13-15kpl on the highway from the petrol automatic.

Hyundai Creta FAQs
The Creta can be considered by those looking for a spacious five-seater SUV. It is well equipped as well and the driving experience is satisfactory across the engine-gearbox variants.
The mid-spec Creta S(O) trim comes across as well-equipped for its price and is available in NA petrol and diesel versions.
Space remains a highlight with good rear legroom and adequate width for three adults to sit in comfort.
It definitely feels worth that slight premium considering how effective the aesthetic changes are in conveying its sporty demeanour. It even features suspension and steering differences over the standard Creta.
The new-generation Kia Seltos has moved to a new platform and is larger in size than before. While its engine options are similar to the Creta, it packs several new features. As an overall package, the Seltos is the one to go for.
The Hyundai Creta N Line N10 1.5-litre turbo-petrol manual variant is the one to go for. Notably, the standard Creta does offer this engine option, but only with a dual-clutch automatic.
Questions you may find useful
Hi, I am planning to buy a 2026 Creta IVT S(O) Petrol. During the PDI, I noticed that the engine moves forward and backward when I shift gears from P to D, D to R, and R to D. The movement is about 1 cm to 1 inch. The sales representative showed me another Creta at the yard, which exhibited the same behavior. There is no other concerning noise. When sitting inside the car with all the doors closed, the cabin is quiet, and there are no shaking or thudding sounds that I could hear. Is this engine movement when shifting to D or R normal? Thanks
Congratulations on your new Hyundai Creta IVT! The slight forward and backward movement of the engine when shifting between P, D and R is normal, as the engine experiences a change in load. The engine mounts are designed to absorb this movement. Since there are no unusual noises, thuds or vibrations inside the cabin of this Hyundai car, there is nothing to worry about.
I am planning to buy either Bayon or Creta under a budget of Rs. 15 lakh. Which car and what variant do you suggest?
Between the Bayon and Creta, we would recommend the Bayon since your budget is Rs.15 lakh. At this price, you can get a better equipped variant of the Bayon rather than sacrificing creature comforts. The Creta gets the same powertrain as the Bayon and is a bit larger in size. However, the wheelbase is almost identical and space in the rear is not too far off in the Bayon. Also, being a higher variant you get better equipment like auto climate control, reversing camera, keyless entry etc that make the Bayon better value. For the city, the naturally aspirated engine and CVT gearbox is well-suited. Another option to consider is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza in its automatic guise. It gets a smooth engine and gearbox along with a spacious rear seat and you can get the top-spec version in Rs. 15 lakh.
Hyundai Creta vs Kia Seltos: they’re in the same segment at similar prices, but which one do you actually prefer? Which would you pick, and what makes it better?
While the two are closely related models, the second-gen Kia Seltos that came out earlier this year is actually built on a new-gen platform. The platform brings with it enhanced refinement as well as the promise of better safety. The new Seltos is also significantly larger than the current Creta and offers more space. You also get the latest tech in the Seltos. Of the two models on sale today, the Seltos is the more wholesome package.Do note, the Hyundai Creta, which has been on sale since 2020, is towards the end of its life and will be replaced by a new model at the start of 2027. The new model will be built around the same platform as the new-gen Seltos and correspondingly will be larger, more tech-laden, and safer than the outgoing Creta. In essence, the new Creta and Seltos will have similar, if not the same, highlights. If you are not in a hurry to make your buying decision, we'd advise you to hold on for the new-gen Creta that's around the corner. And, of course, stay tuned for the detailed Autocar India analysis to know which is the better pick of the two. We are just as eager to know!
I live in Bangalore and am planning to buy my first car. I prefer a low maintenance, reliable and smooth everyday drive. It should be a family-friendly car with a spacious cabin, comfortable rear seats and a spacious boot. My usage will be relatively low, with city driving once or twice a week and a highway road trip once every couple of months. As a first-time car buyer, I also value ease of driving, predictable ownership costs and hassle-free after-sales service. The cars that I am currently considering include Kia Seltos, Skoda Slavia and Hyundai Creta. My budget is somewhere around Rs. 17 lakh (all inclusive). I am eligible for a BH number plate. Would appreciate your advice before making a final decision.
Go for either the Hyundai Creta IVT or the Kia Seltos IVT within your budget. Both cars share the same 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is refined and paired with a silky smooth CVT gearbox, making them easy to drive.Between the two, the Hyundai Creta has strong brand value, a wide dealer network and attractive offers currently available, making it a safe buy. However, as a product, the Seltos is slightly better as it is the newer car. It is more spacious, has a larger boot and its interiors feel more premium. The Skoda Slavia is a great driver's car, but if you are looking for a safe buy, go for either the Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta.
