Hyundai has launched the Bayon with prices starting from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). With the Bayon, Hyundai now has two offerings in the midsize SUV segment, the other being the segment bestseller, the Creta. So, how does the new Hyundai Bayon stack up against the Creta?
Hyundai Bayon vs Creta: Dimensions
The Bayon is slightly shorter in length but offers a larger boot than the Creta
While wheelbase differs by only 10mm between the two SUVs, the Bayon’s overall length is 85mm shorter than the Creta’s. It is also 30mm shorter in height but 20mm wider. However, these differences are unlikely to have a significant real-world impact. The Bayon offers a larger 505-litre boot, 72 litres more than the Creta, along with slightly higher ground clearance of 205mm. Meanwhile, the Creta gets a larger 50-litre fuel tank compared to the Bayon’s 43-litre one.
Hyundai Bayon vs Creta: Powertrain options
Bayon gets a petrol engine, but the Creta also gets turbo-petrol and diesel options
^MT = Manual transmission, CVT = Continuously variable automatic transmission, DCT = Dual-clutch automatic transmission, AT = Torque converter automatic transmission
The Hyundai Bayon gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and 144Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT. The Creta also offers this engine, but the Bayon’s smaller size and likely lower weight are reflected in its claimed ARAI mileage, which is 0.9kpl higher for the petrol-CVT combination. The claimed fuel efficiency of the Bayon’s petrol-manual powertrain is yet to be revealed.
While the Bayon misses out on the Creta’s turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, it will get a CNG version in 2027. This would make it the only Hyundai model longer than 4 metres to offer a CNG option.

Hyundai Bayon vs Creta: Interior and features
Bayon gets larger screens, but misses out on some convenience features
The Hyundai Bayon gets larger 12.3-inch infotainment and driver’s display screens than the Creta’s 10.25-inch units. It also debuts Hyundai’s generative AI voice assistant, which can handle navigation and destination searches, make calls, send SMS messages, control the climate system and sunroof, and provide real-time weather and sports updates.
However, the Creta gets dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging for rear passengers and an 8-way powered co-driver’s seat, while the driver’s seat also gets a memory function. It further offers a powered boss mode, rear sunshade, air purifier and cooled glove box, none of which are available on the Bayon. Other features like a panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, ventilated front seats and an 8-speaker Bose sound system are common to both SUVs.
Hyundai Bayon vs Creta: Driving tech
Both Hyundai SUVs offer similar driving tech
Both the Hyundai Bayon and Creta get Normal, Eco and Sport drive modes, along with paddleshifters, adaptive cruise control and an idle start/stop system.
Hyundai Bayon vs Creta: Safety
The Bayon gets additional ADAS features but lacks a dashcam
Both the Hyundai Bayon and Creta get six airbags, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-start assist, hill-descent control and disc brakes on all four wheels. However, the Bayon has a Level 2+ advanced driver assistance (ADAS) suite compared to the Creta’s Level 2 system, with additional features including map-based highway driving assist and cruise control. The Creta, on the other hand, gets front and rear dashcams, which are not available on the Bayon.
Hyundai Bayon vs Creta: Prices and verdict
The Bayon’s starting price is Rs 91,000 less than the Creta
The Hyundai Bayon’s starting price is Rs 91,000 lower than the Creta’s, although its full price list is yet to be announced. On paper, the Bayon offers larger screens, a generative AI voice assistant, more ADAS features and a feature list that almost matches the Creta’s. It misses out on a few niceties, including a powered co-driver’s seat, boss mode and rear sunshades, which are increasingly common in this segment. If Hyundai manages to price the Bayon significantly lower than the Creta, as it has with the base variant, it could gain the upper hand in this comparison.
