I would like to buy a new car especially SUV in the budget of around 16 lakh. I am travelling around 1200 km monthly. Which is suitable for me between electric or petrol automatic car? My preferences are Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi Petrol Automatic, Tata Nexon EV Creative 45 electric and Hyundai Venue HX6 AND HX5. Which will be better for me? I am giving more importance to fuel efficiency, low cost maintenance and safety.
With a budget of around Rs 16 lakh and a monthly running of 1,200 km, the decision between petrol automatic and electric comes down to your usage pattern and priorities. Since you are giving more importance to fuel efficiency, low maintenance and safety, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi petrol automatic is the most sensible choice from your shortlist. The Brezza is a proven, reliable car with a wide service network, low maintenance costs and a comfortable ownership experience. It is also a safe car with a good reputation for long-term durability, which is important given your running. The Hyundai Venue HX6 and HX5 are also strong contenders, offering a more premium cabin and a slightly more refined driving experience, but the Brezza edges them out on reliability and ownership costs. The Tata Nexon 3.0 Creative 45 EV is a good electric option, but at 1,200 km a month, the cost savings over petrol are not significant enough to justify the higher upfront cost and the dependency on charging infrastructure, unless you have a dedicated home charger and a predictable usage pattern.Overall, the Brezza ZXi petrol automatic strikes the best balance between efficiency, low maintenance and long-term peace of mind.
I currently drive a Hyundai i10 CNG, with daily running of around 6 km in Gurgaon city traffic and a monthly highway drive of around 200 km. I am now planning to upgrade my car, with an on-road budget of Rs. 12 lakh for a petrol sub-4-metre SUV, up to Rs. 14 lakh for a petrol midsize SUV, and Rs. 15 lakh for an EV. I live in a rented apartment on the second floor, so I am apprehensive about getting an EV. I prefer an EV, but installing a charger could be complicated due to the sanctioned load. My running could increase to nearly 800 km per month in the future. My key priorities are: - Good suspension and ride comfort, as I have a back problem - Decent fuel efficiency in heavy city traffic - Low to medium maintenance costs - Auto hold and ventilated seats would be good to have I sometimes consider buying a manual, but I mostly prefer an automatic. I am currently considering the Maruti Brezza, Baleno AMT, Fronx AMT/AT, Sonet iMT, Exter AMT, and even the upcoming Inster, VF3, and Bayon. I am open to other suggestions as well. Note: I had a bad driving experience with the Punch AMT, as it caused back fatigue.
Given your priorities of ride comfort, fuel efficiency and low maintenance, the Maruti Brezza automatic is the most sensible upgrade. It offers a comfortable ride, a proven naturally aspirated petrol engine and Maruti's strong service network, which keeps long-term ownership costs in check. The torque converter automatic is smooth in city traffic, and the Brezza's higher seating position will help with your back issues. The Sonet iMT is not the right choice here. While it is a good car, the iMT is not a true automatic and will not offer the same ease of use in Gurgaon traffic. The Baleno AMT and Exter AMT are also not ideal given your back issues and the fact that AMT gearboxes are not as smooth as torque converter automatics in stop-start conditions. On the EV front, your apprehension about charging is valid. Without a straightforward home charging solution, an EV will add unnecessary complexity to your ownership experience. The upcoming Bayon is interesting and if you can wait a few weeks you would have a better picture before making a decision. For now, the Brezza automatic strikes the best balance between comfort, efficiency and hassle-free ownership.
I am 67 years old and plan to drive extensively across India. I am looking for a reliable, easy-to-maintain, sub-four-metre diesel SUV with a good automatic transmission. I do not want a sunroof or unnecessary features, but would prefer all the essential equipment. Please suggest the best possible options.
Both the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue are the best diesel automatic compact SUVs on sale today, especially if the priority is effortless long-distance driving with low running costs. Both use a strong 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 116hp and 250Nm, paired with a smooth six-speed torque-converter automatic. This is an important advantage over the AMT automatics offered in several other sub-four-metre diesel SUVs, as a torque-converter feels more natural and refined in traffic, while also being better suited to relaxed highway cruising. For driving extensively across India, this powertrain makes a great deal of sense. The diesel’s strong low-end torque gives both SUVs confident overtaking ability even with passengers and luggage on board, while the automatic takes the effort out of city traffic and long days behind the wheel. The Venue diesel automatic has an official fuel-efficiency figure of 17.9kpl, while the Sonet diesel automatic is rated at around 19kpl, though real-world figures will naturally depend on driving conditions.Between the two, we would pick the Hyundai Venue. It is the fresher product, has a marginally longer wheelbase and feels a touch roomier than the Sonet, particularly in terms of overall cabin ambience. More importantly for someone planning extensive travel, Hyundai’s wider service network across India offers additional peace of mind for routine maintenance or support away from home. The Sonet remains an excellent alternative, particularly if you prefer its styling, cabin design or a particular variant’s feature mix. But for your requirement of a reliable, easy-to-maintain, no-nonsense diesel automatic SUV that can cover serious distances comfortably, the Venue would be our first recommendation. Choose a sensible mid-spec diesel automatic variant if available, and avoid paying extra for features you do not need, such as a sunroof.
I am a first time driver looking for an AMT car. I have shortlisted Hyundai Exter, Honda Amaze and Maruti Suzuki Fronx. I like Fronx the most but compared to Exter and Amaze, its basic features are missing. Further, I have found some visibility issue while driving in nearby area because bonet comes in my near vision. Exter is good but I have heard negative reviews about it. Amaze is good too for AMT but I am little confused whether I should go for sedan in today's market. I would be mostly driving on weekends so my driving will be mix of city and highway for trips. I stay in Mumbai and I personally don't like Punch and Brezza. While Punch is for space and Brezza is for features and build quality in comparison to other car. I am not particularly sure about Nexon AMT's performance. I need your guidance about a car that will be suitable for me in a budget of Rs. 9 to 10 lakh.
Go for the Honda Amaze, which is possibly the best automatic car in this price range for your needs. The biggest advantage is its smooth CVT gearbox, which is far superior to the more basic AMTs that are offered by the other cars in this price range. That gearbox is mated to a smooth, refined and fuel efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that's proven and reliable. Its compact dimensions make it easy to drive, and Honda's famous attention to space management and ergonomics mean it feels like a big car on the inside and is easy to drive too. Moreover, for your occasional highway trips, the 89hp, four-cylinder engine has good power for cruising and overtaking. There's no harm in choosing a sedan at all, and you should buy the car that suits you and not the market. The Exter is a good alternative, with a higher seating that makes it easy to see out of, and you will get a higher variant in your budget, although compared to the Amaze, it feels like a smaller car from a lower segment. The engine isn't as punchy as the Honda's and the AMT gearbox is nowhere as smooth, and while it might be sufficient in the city, it doesn't inspire confidence on the highway. Overall, the Amaze is the best bet for your needs.
I am planning to buy a hatchback. We currently own a Swift ZDi AMT and an Ertiga ZXi AT. The Swift has done around 1,30,000 km, while the Ertiga has only 12,000 km on the odometer. I am based in Bangalore. I mainly use the Ertiga for my daily commute to work, which involves a lot of bumper-to-bumper traffic and finding It difficult to drive Ertiga. I drive around 1,200-1,500 km per month, mostly for my daily office commute (around 20 km) and highway driving on weekends. I am considering trading in the Swift and upgrading to a new Swift ZXi+ AMT. My main priorities are hassle-free ownership and decent mileage. Before I finalise the Swift, are there any other hatchbacks that I should consider?
Given your priorities of hassle-free ownership, decent mileage and a comfortable city driving experience, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi+ AMT is a sensible choice. The Swift is reliable, easy to drive in traffic and offers good fuel efficiency, which aligns well with your daily commute and weekend highway runs. However, since you already own an Ertiga, it is worth considering the recently-updated Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT as well. The Baleno offers a more spacious cabin, a larger boot, more features and a more premium feel, making it a better all-rounder for both city and highway use. It is also easy to drive and delivers the same reliability and efficiency. If you are open to looking beyond Maruti, the Hyundai i20 IVT is another strong contender. It offers a comfortable ride, a well-built cabin and a smoother CVT automatic gearbox, making it well-suited to Bangalore's traffic conditions.Overall, the Swift remains a solid choice, but the Baleno AMT is worth serious consideration given its additional space and comfort.
