Morris Garages (MG) Motor is all set to begin sales operations in India early next year. The Chinese-owned British brand has already begun work on refitting the erstwhile GM Halol plant, and the company states that progress is ahead of schedule.

While the firm intends on starting operations with a reach of at least 70 customer touch points, it is also clear that a lot needs to be done towards strengthening consumer brand awareness. Thus, unlike other carmakers, who typically set up brand experience centres at a later stage, a company source told Autocar India that MG Motor India aims to have a brand centre right from when sales commence. Renault only recently opened its first brand centre in India, situated in Mumbai.

Towards that end, the company is purchasing land in Gurugram with a plan to set up a multi- storied facility that'll house the brand centre, the flagship dealership as well as the company headquarters. The brand centre will be a showcase of MG Motor's heritage and its current technologies.

The company has already begun brand awareness activities aimed at highlighting its heritage, by conducting various meets and events where owners of past MG cars get together for road shows and vintage car rallies.
