Questions you may find useful

I am a first-time motorcycle rider, and I’m trying to decide between the Jawa 42 Bobber, Jawa Perak, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Goan Classic 350, Triumph Speed 400, and Harley-Davidson X440. I’m 5'7”, 38 years old, and have a muscular build. Which of these bikes would be most suitable for me in terms of comfort, handling, and ease of riding? Also, do all of these bikes have an option for carrying a passenger comfortably?

First things first, the Jawa Perak and 42 Bobber are strictly single-seater bikes and have no provisions for carrying a pillion. These bikes are also rather stiff and uncomfortable, and we'd recommend steering clear unless you ride very little and mostly on smooth roads.Coming to the other options you've shortlisted, the Triumph Speed 400 will be the dynamically most capable machine and also the fastest one. On the other end of the spectrum, you'll have the laidback but charming Royal Enfield 350s with their easy riding and torque-rich experience. The Harley-Davidson X440 splits the difference between the Triumph and the REs. It all boils down to personal preference, so take a thorough test ride of everything you're considering before making a decision.

Hi, I’ve been riding the H’ness 350 for the last 4 years. It’s been a great, refined machine. Now, I want to upgrade to a slightly more powerful bike with a retro look but low maintenance cost. Is the Speed 400 expensive to maintain?

Verified

The Triumph Speed 400 is built entirely by Bajaj, which means its spare parts are easy to find and light on the pocket. We’d also suggest checking out the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. It offers similar performance and running costs, and you might find it a great fit for your riding style too.

I am planning to purchase a motorcycle that is great for highway commutes. My primary requirements are strong service reliability, good performance, and excellent comfort. I am looking for a bike with an engine displacement between 300-400cc.

Depending on your riding style, there are multiple different options to choose from in the segment you're looking at. If you're looking for a quick and sporty machine, then the 350cc Triumph Speed 400, KTM 390 Duke and Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 make good sense because they have energetic performance as well as good comfort (the KTM bike will be a little less comfy than the Triumph bike in this one regard, but will have more performance). On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you prefer to ride in an unhurried fashion, then look no further than the Royal Enfield Classic / Bullet 350, Honda CB350 models and Triumph Speed T4. These bikes have great comfort and should also be reliable in the long run.If you want something that prioritizes comfort and utility over all else, then an adventure bike is the way to go. You have the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, TVS Apache RTX 300 and KTM 390 Adventure models (with both 350cc and 399cc motors, depending on your needs and budgetary restrictions) in this class. In our opinion, as an all-rounder, nothing can match the versatility of the Himalayan and if you're comfortable with its size, this is definitely an option worth considering. As always, first decide what form factor appeals to you the most and will suit your usage best and then accordingly take test rides based on that before making your decision.

I’m planning to buy a motorcycle around ₹3 lakh for daily office commuting in pothole-filled city traffic, along with occasional long rides. At 5’8” height, I need a comfortable, easy-to-maneuver bike that isn’t too heavy, with excellent suspension to handle potholes smoothly. What bikes do you recommend?

For your usage within your budget, you will have a good mix of neo-retro and sporty naked bikes to choose from. The Triumph Speed 400 and Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 both combine minimalist, neo-retro design with 40hp performance. If you want something that's more relaxed, then look at options like the TVS Ronin, Honda CB350 models and the Royal Enfield Hunter 350. These are likely to be the most comfortable bikes of everything we'll recommend you try. If you want something a little sportier, then you should consider the TVS Apache RTR 310 and KTM 250 Duke / Husqvarna Svartpilen 250. These will feel more engaging and sporty than other bikes on the list while still being fairly usable and comfortable daily. Since all the bikes recommended here are very different, we'd recommend a thorough test ride to see which one suits you best.

My height is 5 feet 7 inches. I am looking for a bike between 300cc and 450cc with good suspension and a refined engine. My riding will mostly be within the city.

In this category, bikes like the Royal Enfield Hunter/Bullet/Classic 350, Triumph Speed 400, Harley Davidson X440 and the Honda CB350 models are worth considering. The Honda and RE 350s will have a relaxed, laidback riding experience while the Triumph 400 will feel noticeably more eager - although its not going to be overenthusiastic like a KTM 390. Do take test rides of your shortlisted options to see which one suits you best.
