I am a 42-year-old private company employee with a height of 5 ft 11 in and a weight of around 120 kg. I am looking to buy a reliable commuter motorcycle that can also be used occasionally for touring. My budget is around ₹1.5 lakh. Could you suggest a good bike that would suit my build, offer comfort, reliability, decent mileage, and low maintenance?

Within your budget, you have three very different options you can look at - Yamaha XSR155, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, TVS Ronin and Hero Xpulse 200 4V. The XSR is the least powerful but is also the lightest motorcycle here. It will also feel the sportiest to ride because its engine and underpinnings are derived from the popular Yamaha R15 and MT-15. The downsides of the XSR are that it is a rather petite motorcycle. For someone of large stature such as yourself, this will be a potential challenge, and its rear suspension is quite stiff. It can get uncomfortable over repeated bad patches.

The Apache RTR 200 4V is another sporty roadster, and with its larger engine than the XSR, it will feel more at home at sustained higher speeds. Its suspension comfort and more spacious seats will also be helpful for your usage.

The TVS Ronin is a relaxed roadster with its smooth and torquey engine and relaxed and neutral ergonomics. Also, plush suspension setup and relatively larger size - compared to the other two bikes here - the Ronin has the potential to be the most suited to your use case.

Moving on to the Hero Xpulse 200 4V, this is the bike you should buy if you want to venture off-road on your long tours. It will have by far the most plush suspension of all the bikes here, although its on-road handling will leave you wanting once you pick up the pace.

We'd recommend a test ride of all three before you make a decision. Also, do note that all four bikes are all slightly above Rs 1.50 lakh (your stipulated budget), within that amount, there's no credible option for your requirements.

I am looking for a good-looking, rough and tough bike, mostly with an adventure look, that offers the best mileage, good torque, and a long seat for family usage too, mainly for city riding, under ₹2 lakh.

In your budget, you will be able to get both the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and the newer Xpulse 210. In our experience, the 210 is a more modern and capable machine than the 200, with much better road manners, which will be helpful for your usage, which is mostly in the city.
Take a test ride of both to see which bike you prefer.

I am 52 years old and have been riding a Glamour bike for 10 years. Now I want to upgrade my bike. Which bike is best for me within a budget of 2 lakh?

Depending on what sort of bike you want, there are many different options to choose from. If you want a sporty commuter, then bikes like the TVS Apache RTR 160 / 200 4V, Bajaj Pulsar N160 / N250, Honda CB300F and the Suzuki Gixxer models will be good options to consider.

If you want a neo-retro bike, then bikes like the Royal Enfield Hunter / Bullet 350, Yamaha XSR155 and TVS Ronin will be the ones we recommend.

If you want an ADV, then the Hero Xpulse 200 / 210 will be bikes that deserve your attention.

Take a test ride of everything you shortlist before making a decision.

Sir, I want to buy a new bike for my son. He is 6′1″ tall and weighs 90 kg. I want a bike with good safety features for his daily use of around 40 km. My budget is below ₹3 lakh. Please advise.

Since this will be his first bike, we recommend getting a bike with dual-channel ABS (at the very least) in terms of safety features. Keeping his physique in mind, bikes like the Hero Xpulse 200 / 210, Royal Enfield Bullet / Classic 350, TVS Ronin, Honda CB350 trio and Suzuki V-Strom SX will be good options to consider.

Do take him for test rides of all of these so he can decide which one fits him best.

I currently ride a TVS Jupiter 125, but I’m looking to switch to an adventure bike. I’m 46 years old and 5′4″ tall - which adventure bike should I buy?

Adventure bikes generally have a tall seat and could be a challenge for you to manage with your height. With that in mind, we suggest that you start with a smaller, lighter ADV bike like the Hero Xpulse 200 or Xpulse 210. We would also urge you to attend an off-road riding academy, where you can learn techniques that will help you manage better on a bike with a tall seat
